Dunny French Series Hits Shelves Today

Kidrobot's French Dunny SeriesToday marks the official release of Kidrobot’s new French Dunny Series. What is a Dunny you might ask? Well, they are designer vinyl bunny looking figures “created to be customized in a broad variety of styles by diverse artists working in different mediums.” (link) These highly collectible toys are created in limited edition runs and are sold in blind boxes, which means the toys are randomly packaged in boxes that you cannot see into so that the buyer has no idea which style of Dunny they are purchasing.

French Dunny Series
Supakitch rare French DunnyIn any given 3” figure series there can be 15-25 different designs or artists working on a figure, so each Dunny in the series looks completely different. The reason selling the figures in blind boxes works is because the figures are limited edition and each designer’s figure has its own unique edition number, causing some figures to be more highly sought after than others. While some figures are pretty common, usually having 2 or 3 in a case (a case typically consists of 30 Dunnys) others are really rare coming in 1 in ever 50 blind boxes, 1/200 or even 1/400. These rare Dunnys are extremely collectible and fetch pretty high dollars on the secondary market (i.e. eBay).

Twelve Car Pileup's Series 4 Hamburger DunnyWhile The Blot had learned about Kidrobot a while back because of their releasing of the Madvillain figure I mentioned here a while back, I didn’t really learn about the whole Dunny craze until much more recently. There have been 12 different series so far and even more individually released figures like their 8” line of Dunnys and holiday Dunnys. What really drew me in was Twelve Car Pileup’s Hamburger Dunny in Series 4, because well, I love hamburgers. I also ended up picking up Mad’s “Modern Hero” Dunny which has a very cool design. Many of you may remember Mad as also the designer of a bunch of Upper Deck’s All-Star Vinyl figures, including the Shaquille O’Neal figure.

Tizieu - French Dunny Series DunnyAnyway, the new batch of French Dunnys are pretty sweet and can be picked up at specialty stores and Urban Outfitters nationwide, but UO probably won’t have them for a while. Tonight stores in America and across the globe will be holding official Kidrobot Dunny French Series release and trading parties. To see if they have one in your neck of the woods you can find the entire list of trading parties here. I’ll be heading down to Domy Books for their trading party tonight in Houston to see if I can pick up Tizieu’s designed Dunnys, which both come with some ridiculously great accessories. You can check those Dunnys and the rest of the French Series below.
