How I Met Your Mother vs. The Big Bang Theory Update

Here’s a quick follow up to last week’s How I Met Your Mother vs. The Big Bang Theory debate. CBS announced today that HIMYM and The Big Bang Theory will be switching time periods. (link) Starting Monday, March 17th The Big Bang Theory will now be coming on at 8/7 central and HIMYM will be coming on at 8:30/7:30 central.

How I Met Your Mother
This is actually great news in that CBS will now be able to see if The Big Bang Theory is actually more popular than How I Met Your Mother or if it’s “the time slot that’s dictating [the] slight difference in the Nielsen numbers.” (link) Right now the ratings favor The Big Bang Theory, which is averaging 8.36 million viewers, by a slight margin while How I Met Your Mother averages 8.02 million viewers.

Barney and Robin
I tend to think the slight increase in viewers for The Big Bang Theory is due to it airing before the highly rated Two and a Half Men, with viewers tuning in early so as not to miss their favorite comedy. Thankfully CBS will be testing this theory of mine come March and we will finally see which Monday night comedy will reign supreme. Or, will at least come in second on CBS to Two and a Half Men.

The Police Are Back…Already?

Wow, the concert no one was clamoring for is already back less than a year later. The fact that The Police are already coming back to Houston this fast means they feel like there is more blood and money to suck out of their nostalgia “reunion” act and Police fans hoping to catch a glimpse of their past. I’m really disappointed in Sting, Andy and Stewart, mostly because the show I saw last June was at Houston’s Toyota Center was kind of a let down. I was expecting so much out of their reunion tour and the show just felt really flat. On top of that, The Police are still selling memberships to their fan club for the ability to purchase pre-sale tickets for the low, low price of $99.99! Who wants to join the fan club of a band that just got back together for one very long reunion tour!?! Plus you still have to pay $225 per ticket after that.

The Police - Live In Concert
I will admit it was cool to see The Police in concert, but it wasn’t worth $550 plus service fees and tax to see them! Thankfully Al and I got lucky and scalped great tickets for way below face value. I can never tell with a reunion tours like this if demand is really that high or, like with the Hannah Montana concerts, if scalpers are just buying up all the tickets, therefore lowering availability to the general public an pushing price sky high. The show at the Toyota Center was packed, but I wonder what the actual price the average person was paying per ticket.

StingAt least now with the show being at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion the worst seats in the house will be law seats at $47.00 a ticket. This is so much better than the worst seats at the Toyota Center which were behind the stage staring at the band’s sweaty backs! And don’t even try to tell me the stage was “in the round,” I’d say Sting walked back there and looked at the audience behind the stage for maybe 10-15 minutes of the show. How they charged people $90 a ticket for those seats is beyond me. The Police should offer those people refunds or at least give them free lawn seats. The fans sitting there were most definitely sold those tickets on the premise that this was The Police’s only stop in Houston on their reunion tour.

The PoliceWith the band now touring indefinitely and already back in Houston I’d imagine a lot of people would not have bought those tickets if they didn’t think this was their one and only chance to see The Police together on stage. I just can’t imagine there are more people out there willing to pay $500+ to see The Police who didn’t already see them the first time they were in town. If there are people out there paying that much to see them again then more power to them, but I’d recommend for a better listening experience busting out some of your old Police cds and rocking out at home.

Elvis CostelloThe only redeeming part of going to see The Police this time around is the opening band. This time they are joined by the legendary Elvis Costello & The Imposters. I’ve always loved Costello’s music, and there is no doubt in my mind he’ll put on a great show. It’s unfortunate he wasn’t on tour with Police last time around. Last June we got stuck watching Sting’s son perform with his band Fiction Plane, who were just plain horrible and gave a totally unintelligible performance.

Lost Wednesdays

For those of you that haven’t heard yet, it sounds like there will be a break between the Lost episodes already filmed and the additional 5 episodes currently in the works. Not only that, but it is being reported that this segment of episodes will end with Episode 7 instead of Episode 8 because evidently Episode 7 has a better ending point to the current story line. We will then pick up with Episode 8 once ABC launches its spring season of scripted shows.

Lost
Another big announcement coming out of ABC is that it looks like Lost will not be returning to Wednesday nights once ABC’s full schedule of shows resumes sometime in late March. Instead, Lost will continue to air new episodes on Thursdays, giving ABC a most formidable lineup on the all important night. As of now Thursdays on ABC will start off with Ugly Betty at 8/7 central, Grey’s Anatomy at 9/8 central and end the night with Lost at 10/9 central. This is a huge coup for Lost being placed in the highly coveted post-Grey’s time slot, allowing for a larger lead-in audience (even though many die-hard Lost fans will be annoyed with such a late starting time). Lost has proven to have a large dedicated fan base, but with this new time slot the show is being given the opportunity to grow its viewership. A viewership I might add that has gone down in size dramatically since its first season (due in part to viewer backlash to the show’s second season).

And lastly, according to TV Squad’s Lost Audio Podcast Recap Co-Executive Producer Damon Lindelof stated in the official Lost podcast that this week’s episode “Eggtown” “has a ‘killer ending.’” (link) So make sure your DVRs are set and come back to The Blot Says… on Friday for a full discussion of the episode.

Jeff Fahey as Pilot Frank LapidusThe TV Squad article also shed some light on two other spoiler-esque subjects making their way around the net so read on at your own discretion. The first being that “Jeff Fahey’s guest star status is not necessarily an indication that his character is in danger of being killed.” (link) That’s great news as I’ve really enjoyed pilot Frank these past few weeks, especially since it seems like he is the only character to talk straightforwardly to the Losties about what is really going on. I assume from his guest star status that in future episodes Frank will be spending more time on the freighter than on the island.

Sayid, Charlotte and Frank
The second topic isn’t as much of a spoiler, but the Lost podcast does confirm the connection between Charlotte and The Chronicles of Narnia author C.S. Lewis was intentional. For those of you that didn’t catch the C.S. Lewis reference in “Confirmed Dead,” you didn’t miss much. In the episode Ben referred to Charlotte by her full name, Charlotte Staples Lewis, proving he knew who she was and did in fact have a spy on her boat. To many viewers her name was eerily similar to C.S. Lewis’ name, Clive Staples Lewis, which we now know was the whole point.
