Lost Wednesdays

This is going to be an ultra short The Blot Says… Lost Wednesdays because I don’t want to give away too much information on tomorrow nights episode “Ji Yeon.” I will say The Blot is expecting to see two big revelations, one of which I’ve been waiting for since I heard the news of it at the end of last year. I thought it was happening last week but I know for sure its happening tonight, which is exciting at least for me.

Lost
Along with the big reveal I’ve been waiting for, TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello is saying that we’re going to be having a lot of questions answered including who Ben’s spy on the freighter is and more importantly who the remaining members of the Oceanic 6 are. (link) I also have it on good authority that the captain of the freighter will also finally be revealed during tomorrow’s episode. That’s a lot of bombshells and information in just one episode, but I guess it makes up for last week's slow episode.

Lost - Nestor Carbonell as Richard Alpert
Ausiello also has it “on good authority that Nestor Carbonell has inked a deal to reprise his role as ageless island dweller Richard in at least one of this season’s final five episodes.” (link) That’s very exciting news as I know lots of us have been dying to find out why Richard Alpert looks to have stopped aging, while Ben has obviously kept growing since coming to the island as a little boy. There also seemed to be some tension between Ben and the rest of the Others including Richard, so it will be interesting to see where the Lost writers steer that aspect of the story.

Britney Spears, Alicia Silverstone and Sarah Chalke to Guest Star on How I Met Your Mother (Plus Scrubs News)

How I Met Your Mother
Britney SpearsWow, its been a huge news week for How I Met Your Mother as the show tries to make a major push in the ratings to ensure its renewal for next year. Bringing in all this star power has been known to backfire in the past, as many viewers were turned off from NBC’s Will & Grace as it became so guest star heavy. I think there is definitely some potential backlash to having the paparazzi’s favorite target Britney Spears showing up in an episode. I don’t know if this is a major “get” for HIMYM or not, but it will definitely draw lots of attention by the media and hopefully some new viewers looking for the next big Britney screw up.

How I Met Your Mother - Josh Radnor as Ted MosbyOriginally it was being reported that Alicia Silverstone (Clueless) had been cast as Josh Radnor’s Ted’s dermatologist and love interest for a multi-episode arc. (link) Michael Ausiello even went so far as to hypothozie that he thinks Silverstone could possibly be the mother in How I Met Your Mother, just in case these were the last few episodes of the season. (link)

Alicia SilverstoneThen it was leaked that Britney Spears would appear in one of Silverstone’s episodes as an employee of the doctor’s. E! reported that Spears would star as “Abby, a girl who works in Ted’s doctor’s office” and is described as “sweet and friendly and scattered and a little nerdy – a female Michael Cera.” (link) Ok, that description is so all over the place it actually might work for Britney in that she doesn’t have to act, just show up as her crazy, all over the place self. The Blot was nervous as this point because over the past year Britney has come off as a pariah and seems to poison everything she’s involved in. The only thing worse would have been if HIMYM cast Lindsay Lohan for a guest role.

Scrubs - Sarah Chalke as Dr. Elliot ReidThen news came today that there is already a big Spears backlash that is evidently changing the future plans for How I Met Your Mother. Today Ausiello is reporting that Alicia Silverstone has dropped out from her multi-episode arc as Ted’s doctor and lover. (link) The reason Silverstone dropped out of the role is “because her reps (understandably) feared she would be overshadowed by Spears” who would be playing her assistant in the doctor’s office. (link) The role of dermatologist will now be played by Scrubs’ Sarah Chalke, but the multi-episode love affair is now being scraped because of Chalke’s schedule. And so it now seems the opportunity for all of us to finally meet Ted’s future wife this season has been scrapped, all because of little Miss Britney Spears. There is a silver lining as Ausiello reports there are still “big plans for Silverstone” and the show intends “to creat another character for her” in the future. (link)

Scrubs LogoIn other exciting Sarah Chalke news, it is being reported in this week’s Ask Ausiello that the reason why Chalke can only appear in one episode of How I Met Your Mother is that the cast and crew of Scrubs “are due back on the set the week of March 24th to being production on an 18-episode final season to air on ABC.” (link) Now how exciting is that!?!

Reaper Returns Thursday To The CW

Reaper - Bret Harrison as Sam OliverThursday marks the return of new episodes of one of The Blot’s favorite new shows this season, Reaper. Reaper airs on The CW Thursday nights at 9/8 central and is actually pretty good for a scripted show on The CW. So don’t let that scare you away right off the bat. I was planning on writing about Reaper way back when, but the Writers strike kind of screwed up my plans. If you like Chuck then do yourself a favor and watch the last few remaining new episodes of Reaper.

Reaper
Reaper - Tyler Labine as Bert Here’s a quick recap of Reaper so far. The star of the show is Bret Harrison (Grounded For Life, The Loop) who as Sam Oliver had his soul sold to the Devil before he was even born in exchange for the Devil saving his father’s life. 21 years later the Devil’s back to collect on Sam’s parents’ debt. Now the Devil is forcing Sam to act as his Reaper or bounty hunter, “tracking down evil souls that have escaped and returning them to Hell.” (link) While Sam tries to buy time to figure out why this is happening and how to get out of it, he and his two best friends Tyler Labine (Invasion) as Sock and Rick Gonzalez (Coach Carter) as Ben travel around town doing the Devil’s bidding and recapturing lost souls.

Reaper - Miss Peregrym as AndiIt really reminds me of a collection of shows crammed into one. It has the monster of the week theme and Scooby gang like feel to it that Buffy used to have, but the cast is really set up more like Chuck. You see Sam and his friends all work at the Work Bench, which is basically a Home Depot knock off. Sam’s got an annoying but funny boss, the wacky sidekick in Sock and the best friend/unrequited love interest in Missy Peregrym (Heroes) as Andi.

Reaper - Ray Wise as The DevilBut, what really makes this show great is the Devil himself Ray Wise (Twin Peaks). He’s one of those actors you know even if you don’t know his name and he was made for this role. Wise pulls off a classic Devil, being friend, mentor and tormentor to Sam all at once. He really is the devilish heart and soul of the show and is worth tuning in every week to watch.

Reaper - Rick Gonzalez as BenWhile the fact that Kevin Smith directed the pilot is what brought me to watch the show at first, the show’s relaxed, mindless fun is what’s kept me around. Reaper reminds me of Psych in that way. While the mysteries aren’t hard to figure out, they make for fun stories that you don’t have to pay attention to every little thing said to know what’s going on. There are only a handful of new shows left and Reaper is on the bubble as to whether it is going to be renewed or not, so there’s also no commitment expected if you do start to like it. I’m not sure if that’s a plus or a minus, but I’ll let you decide that one. Reaper is aimed at a younger demographic, but if you’re looking for a new comedy/adventure/fantasy show to watch that you don’t have to keep tabs on, like Lost, you should really check it out.
