Will Eisner’s The Spirit - 3 Piece Teaser Movie Poster

Will Eisner's The Spirit - Teaser Movie Poster
Will Eisner is one of the most influential comic book writers/artists of all time and his comic book, The Spirit, is considered by many to be extremely important to the growth and expansion of the medium of comics. He is also credited with establishing the book format of comics, a.k.a. the graphic novel, with the publication of his book A Contract with God and Other Tenement Stories.

Many of comics’ most influential writers and artists credit Eisner as an inspiration in their own work. One of those hugely influential creators is Frank Miller, an artist/writer known as well for his legendary work with characters such as Batman and Daredevil as his creator owned projects like Sin City and 300. After co-directing Sin City in 2005 with Robert Rodriguez, Miller wanted to try directing on his own, which led him to Will Eisner’s The Spirit.

Will Eisner’s The Spirit “is the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the Spirit to fight crime from the shadows of Central City.” (link) Gabriel Macht stars as the Spirit, Samuel L. Jackson stars as the villainous Octopus, and Sarah Paulson stars as Ellen. Also appearing is Eva Mendes as Sand Saref, Dan Lauria as Dolan, Jamie King as Lorelei and Scarlett Johansson as Silken Floss. Look for Will Eisner’s The Spirit in theaters January of 2009.

With Miller’s trademark dark and gritty style, The Spirit is sure to be a cinematical masterpiece. I am assuming the movie will look visually very similar to Sin City. The Spirit has made a major comeback in recent years, first with a new comic book series produced by DC Comics and written/drawn by Darwyn Cooke (DC: The New Frontier) and now a major motion picture. While the first teaser poster for The Spirit was released last summer at the San Diego Comi-Con, a new 3 piece promotional poster was unveiled this week. The movie posters can be displayed individually or together as one massive poster.

Ted Mosby Is A Jerk!

It might have appeared to be just another throwaway line in this week’s episode of How I Met Your Mother, but as always there’s more to it than meets the eye. As we found out in "The Bracket," Barney told one of the women he slept with and then never spoke to again that his name was Ted Mosby. When Barney and Lily went to find her and apologize for his actions we find out that not only did the woman still think his name was Ted Mosby, but she created a website to warn all the women in New York to stay away. And from that little segment comes TedMosbyIsAJerk.com.

Ted Mosby Is A Jerk - Barney Good Bye Letter
Created by the How I Met Your Mother crew, the website is hilarious and even comes with its own theme song which is really funny in a stalker-ish kind of way. The site’s also got some funny drawings of deaths that would be too good for Barney/Ted, but the best part of the site is that one page references a story from last year in which a former friend steals Ted’s name and becomes a porn star. I have to say the fake porn ads are a really nice touch to TedMosbyIsAJerk.com.

Fates That Would Be Too Good For Ted Mosby (Barney)
James Van Der BeekAs for some other How I Met Your Mother news, it seems like my greatest fears have come true. How I Met Your Mother is becoming the next Will & Grace, a funny show that goes down hill quickly by constantly using stunt casting for a quick bump in the ratings. On the heels of Britney Spears’ guest appearance two weeks ago comes news that Dawson a.k.a. James Van Der Beek will be guest staring on a future episode this season. (link) I don’t want to ruin anything, but lets just say his appearance involves another flash back to the career of our favorite 90’s Canadian pop star Robin Sparkles! I do love me some Robin Sparkles so maybe Van Der Beek’s appearance won’t be all bad.

Along those same lines, it sounds like after the success of Britney Spears’ guest appearance, the producers of HIMYM are considering a return engagement for the aging pop star. According to Michael Ausiello multiple sources are confirming that “Brit’s in talks to reprise her role as Ted’s stalker in at least one more episode.” (link) I don’t know about you, but I really don’t see the point.

How I Met Your Mother - Special Guest Stars Britney Spears and Sarah Chalke
Yes it was nice to get the boost in ratings from her guest staring in an episode, but do they really think bringing her back will have the same impact? The more times she appears the lesser her impact will be. Besides, HIMYM really doesn’t want to be known as the show Brittney Spears is on do they? I guess they’re just trying to pull out all the stops to ensure a 4th season, and for that I say do whatever must be done. But please, once the show is finally renewed, dump the celebrity guest stars and just sign Sarah Chalke for the long run.

Gaius Baltar Is My Homeboy

Battlestar Galactica - Gaius Baltar Is My Homeboy T-ShirtWhen The Blot heard about this latest addition to the line of “Is My Homeboy” t-shirts, I had to spread the word. Especially after my last post on the different “Is My Homeboy” t-shirts out there. Season 4 of Battlestar Galactica starts tonight, and “in celebration of the final season of Battlestar Galactica returning April 4th,” enclothe.com is selling a limited edition Baltar Is My Homeboy shirt for one month and one month only.

The shirt comes in white and black and can be purchased for $19.00 here. As the shirt’s description reads, “sure Gaius Baltar may be responsible for the extinction of the entire human race, but he’s still my homeboy.” Who can argue with that one!?!
