Obey Giant Versus WK Interact Video

Obey x WK Interact Flyer PrintAs most of you know I’m a huge Obey Giant fan. So I was pretty excited when I read on the Obey Giant website today that there was a new film (i.e. YouTube clip) of the set up of last year’s Agnes B::Obey::WK Interact Collaborative Exhibition that took place in Tokyo, Japan. (link) The print set that came out of the Obey x WK Interact exhibit (Obey x WK Delancy, Obey x WK Flyer, Obey x WK Revolution Girl) are some of my favorite pieces of Obey artwork because of the way they so effortlessly combined the two artists’ unique styles. Needless to say I was really excited to see what both artists presented at the show.

Obey x WK Interact Delancy PrintWhat I saw on the video amazed me. Besides displaying previously produced pieces of art, both graffiti artists combined lots of different pasters to create giant unique murals on the walls of one of the rooms at the gallery. If you’ve never seen what goes into the process of tagging pasters, you’ll definitely want to watch this video. Not only do you get to watch Shepard and WK work on the murals, but at the end video the camera follows Fairey and WK out onto the streets of Tokyo to plaster their artwork onto unsuspecting buildings in the middle of the night. All in all a very cool glimpse into the life of a street art campaign artist. Oh yeah, if you do watch the video below I recommend lowering the volume on your computer beforehand because the song in the background plays really loud.

Each of the 18x24 Obey x WK Interact screen prints had a run size of 250 and were signed and numbered by Shepard Fairey. The prints sold out immediately upon their release on December 18, 2007.

G.I. Joe The Movie - Second Look at Storm Shadow and The Baroness

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero
Who knew when I said yesterday’s G.I. Joe First Look post would be the last one for the foreseeable future that Paramount would then decided to release photos of some previously unseen characters that very day. Today’s post though is of new pictures of Byung-hun Lee as Storm Shadow and Sienna Miller as The Baroness. While I’m still not sold on Storm Shadow’s overall look, at least in this newest picture Lee looks to be wearing Storm Shadow’s traditional uniform and has donned his very familiar headgear. This costume is more similar to the look I was originally hoping for, much more so than the original photos leaked onto the web.

The new photo of The Baroness has her in the same uniform as the original photos, but this one is a more action oriented shot like most of the other G.I. Joe Movie First Look photos.

Notre Dame to play Arizona State at New Cowboys Stadium in 2013

Notre Dame logoThis might be the most random college football news I’ve heard in years. Notre Dame and Arizona State University announced yesterday “that they will play a football game on Oct. 5, 2013, at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.” (link) The reason for the long wait is that the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium doesn’t open until the summer of 2009. This will be the second time in five years Notre Dame will be playing a home game away from South Bend and down in heart of Texas. They already have a game schedule in 2009 to play Washington State University in San Antonio.

Arizona State University logoFor those interested in tickets, “Notre Dame expects to make tickets available to its contributing alumni and fans throught he alumni lottery as it does with all other football games…and a public sale will be conducted through the Cowboys stadium.” (link) Arizona State will be given “a maximum of 15,000 tickets for the game” as the visiting team. (link) This seems like pretty low to The Blot considering the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium will seat 80,000 and can be expanded to hold upwards of 100,000.

Notre Dame Leprechaun MascotI know Texas is a hotbed of high school football and one of the top two or three states for college football recruiting, but ND and ASU both traveling across multiple states to play in a neutral location seems pretty excessive. I didn’t realize ND was already doing this with Washington State, but that seems pretty crazy too. I know ND has fans all over the country but the Pac-10 teams will probably be struggling to find local fan support, especially WSU. Who knew all three teams were so desperate to recruit in north Texas.

Arizona State University Mascot SparkyI’m interested in a) seeing what type of impact these two games have on local recruiting for the schools and b) how many tickets these two games will be able to sell locally. I’ve felt the shine from the golden domers has been really tarnished these past few years and that NBC continuing their television contract with them is ridiculous. These games in Texas will be a good barometer as to how big of a draw ND really is still. With that being said, I guess if I lived in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area I’d probably travel to Arlington on a Saturday afternoon in October to see the Notre Dame Fighting Irish lose to the Arizona State Sun Devils.
