Lost Wednesdays - ABC OKs Two Additional Hours

Here’s some great news for Lost fans, those two missing hours of programming from Season 4 of Lost have finally be found. As most of you are aware, because of the writers strike hiatus Lost was only able to produce 14 episodes of the season's originally planned 16. This led fans to ask whether or not those two remaining episodes would be tacked on to Lost’s final two seasons or if the series would just be two episodes shorter than originally planned. Well last week we got our answer.

Lost
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “the 2009 and 2010 editions of the hit drama will be 17 hours each – not 16 as previously planned.” (link) As I tried to explain above, “ABC has added two hours to the show’s production plan because the WGA strike knocked three hours out of the current season. To partly compensate, the network recently added an additional hour to Part 2 of the season finale that airs May 29.” (link)

Lost - Terry O'Quinn Celebrating His 2007 Emmy Win for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama SeriesLost Co-Executive producer Damon Lindelof explained that “we were supposed to do 16-16-16, but we ended up doing 14 this season, so we owe two.” (link) Unfortunately, in the same interview Lindelof “ruled out the show extending beyond the remaining 34-episode order.” (link) While I’m sad to hear there won’t be any last second extending of the series, I think the way ABC and the show’s producers are handling Lost is 100% the right way. It seems to be speeding up the storyline and satisfying both obsessive and casual fans of the show. I’m just glad to hear we’ll be getting those two episodes after all and that the show’s writers know exactly where they’ll be taking the story from here on out. The worst part is knowing that after the next three weeks we’ll have to wait almost a full year until we see new episodes of Lost on ABC.

The Hollywood Reporter article “Lost adds hours” is pretty interesting and I recommend all Lost fans reading it here.

Jason Mraz - We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.

Jason MrazHello, my name is The Blot and I’m a Jason Mraz fan. Yes, I know that’s frowned upon by the indie hipsters, but I’m ok with that. I’ve loved Mraz’s eclectic style of pop, rock, folk and hip-hop ever since his debut album Waiting For My Rocket To Come. Since then I’ve been hooked. Besides having his first two albums (the aforementioned Waiting For My Rocket To Come and Mr. A-Z), I’ve also amassed somewhere around 20 recordings of live concerts, his hard to find EPs and seen him in concert twice: once playing acoustically with Toca while opening for Alanis Morissette’s acoustic tour to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Jagged Little Pill and once headlining his own tour with a then unknown James Blunt and Tristan Prettyman opening.

Ok, now that we have that out of the way I can tell you about Mraz’s latest album, We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things., which hit stores yesterday. The album, released by Atlantic Records, features guest appearances by Colbie Caillat on “Lucky” and James Morrison on “Details In The Fabric”.

To promote his newest album, Mraz also released three EPs for a limited time. The three EPs entitled We Sing, We Dance and We Steal Things, contain live and alternate versions of songs featured on We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. I hope that’s not too confusing. I’m listening to the new album now and while a lot of its songs are a lot slower tempo than I would prefer, it’s still a fantastic album. I definitely enjoy Mraz's earlier work more, but I have to listen to this album a few more times before I pass judgment. Until then check out We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. for yourself and let me know what you think.

CBS Finally Renews How I Met Your Mother and Rules of Engagement

After months and months of waiting, CBS finally tells The Blot what he’s been dying to hear…that How I Met Your Mother is being renewed for another season! Not only is HIMYM being renewed, but CBS is also renewing all of their other Monday night comedies, including previous bubble shows The New Adventures of Old Christine and Rules of Engagement.

How I Met Your Mother
Rules of EngagementThis announcement, while strange, is great news for fans of Old Christine and Rules of Engagement. It’s strange because for the third straight year CBS now has five comedies for four spots in its Monday night comedy lineup. No word on if one of the shows will be brought in as a midseason replacement or if an additional night of comedies will be started. There are rumors “that CBS is considering using the Julia Louis-Dreyfus starrer Old Christine to open a second comedy block on Wednesday” to pair with “another female-oriented comedy, Worst Week, about an engaged couple,” which the network picked up on Monday. The New Adventures of Old Christine“According to sources, ABC was ready to announce a 22-episode pickup of Christine if CBS opted for a cancellation or a shorter order,” to pair the comedy with Scrubs, another established comedy ABC pilfered away from NBC yesterday. (link) CBS also announced it would be renewing “The Unit…while canceling Shark and cult favorite Moonlight.” (link)
