A New Season of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations Begins Monday

One of my favorite television shows, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, returns to the Travel Channel for a brand new season on Monday, July 7th. If you haven’t been following Tony’s adventures traveling around the world then you’ve missed seeing him visiting exotic locations while eating food most of us couldn’t even imagine existed.

Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations - Season 4 Part II Season Premiere in Laos
Even though Bourdain has since been out eaten in the gross food department by fellow Travel Channel foodie Andrew Zimmern (of Bizzare Foods with Andrew Zimmern), No Reservations still shines by blending Bourdain’s unique point of view with his never say no attitude to food, liquor and adventure. During our recent trip out west, Aly and I were inspired by Bourdain to try some food a little outside of our comfort level.

Anthony Bourdain in the KitchenSince I became a diehard Bourdanian and slowly started learning more about the wonders of food, I have been dying to try roasted bone marrow, a dish he raves about. And so on the final night of our trip to California, we found ourselves walking past Bistro Jeanty, a great French restaurant in Napa Valley, that just happened to have the rich appetizer on their specials list. I figured if was sign we had to eat there and so we did. The roasted bone marrow was exquisite and I followed it up by ordering the cassoulet, a Bourdain specialty, as my entrée. The meal was excellent and the only thing better would have been if we had had the No Reservations camera crew circling the table as we ate.

You can learn more about these and many other worldly dishes on a weekly basis just by watching No Reservations, so what are you waiting for? Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations airs Monday nights at 10/9C on the Travel Channel. Season 4, Part II kicks off on July 7th, 2008 with an episode featuring Laos.

The 2008 Nathan’s Famous 4th of July Hot Dog Eating Contest Live on ESPN

Happy Fourth of July everyone! It’s the nation’s birthday, which means its time for the 4th’s greatest tradition, the 93rd annual Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. This is a big week for The Blot with my second favorite non-sport sporting event taking place the day after the start of my favorite non-sport sporting event, the World Series of Poker’s Main Event.

Nathan's Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest LogoThe world’s biggest hot dog eating contest has been taking place at the Nathan’s Famous hot dog stand on Coney Island since 1916 and this year’s should prove to be its biggest yet. 21 of the world’s top professional eaters will be converging in New York City to battle over the sport’s most coveted title, the Mustard Yellow Belt, and a $20,000 cash prize. It is being billed as The Rematch II between the reigning World Hot Dog Eating Champion and the #1 Ranked Professional Eater in the World, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, and the #1 Challenger and 6 time World Hot Dog Eating Champion, Takeru “The Tsunami” Kobayashi. These two have been battling fiercely the past few years with world records being shattered in three of the last four competitions.

The Blot is eagerly waiting to see if American Joey Chestnut can hold off the Japanese superstar to win his second consecutive Mustard Yellow Belt. The 2008 Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest takes place today, July 4, 2008, at 12/11C and can be seen nationally on ESPN.
