G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra - First Look at Cobra Commander

This post may mark the beginning of the end of The Blot’s love affair with G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. Let me preface things by stating this post does not include any actual photos of Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander. Instead, The Blot is posting the next best thing, the first leaked photos of an official movie tie-in Cobra Commander action figure. How Hasbro let these photos get out is beyond me!

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra Combat Heroes Action Figures - Duke and Cobra Commander in Package
Since the character’s look in the upcoming live action G.I. Joe movie is still in lockdown, this is really all we have to go by. And sadly, I am thoroughly disappointed! While I have loved everything I have seen about this movie to date, this bizarre alien looking Cobra Commander wannabe looks horrible. This is not the Cobra Commander I grew up, and after seeing this I’m now extremely worried about what Destro’s mask will look like in the film. Hopefully Hasbro and Paramount will give us an official look at the live action Cobra Commander soon.

as i am a fan of the combat heroes line and any superhero squad like line of figures i do have to admit the "modernized" and "alien-like" look of cobra commander is indeed a let down. i was hoping that they would have kept the original look but i wont truly judge till i see a still from the movie

I'm still holding out hope the movie version will be better looking, but I am guessing he will be very similar to his Combat Heroes look.

I was really hoping for just a modern take on Cobra Commander's classic look. They did that with every other character!

Hasbro's Superhero Squad figures are very cool, I'm not sure why I've never talked about them before. What I like the most about them is that they've done a really great job including random characters into their releases, especially with the Transformers and Marvel Comics lines.

Oh my gosh. All they needed to do was give him a cool blue hood and I would have been thoroughly happy. That looks like some kind of darth vader mask. Let's hope that design is for the kids, or maybe this is some kind of apparatus that his blue hood will cover in the movie? Still a let down.

I've seen a few combat heroes in stores already though, so maybe it's not a time-released tie-in

I believe (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) the Combat Heroes currently in stores are G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Combat Heroes Waves, which are based on the cartoons, comic books and A Real American Hero toy line.

This two figure set is a part of the upcoming G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra Combat Heroes Wave, which will hit stores to coincide with the movie's release.

They are also releasing a new line of G.I. Joe 3 3/4" action figures that will resemble the look of the characters in G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra.
