24: Day 7 Begins This Sunday, Jan 11th

It’s been almost two full years since the last new episode of 24 hit the airwaves, and we can lay the blame for no new Jack Bauer adventures squarely at the feet of the 2008 Writers Strike. Thankfully, Jack’s back and he couldn’t have returned at a better time. 24 Season 7’s 2-night, 4-hour season premiere begins this Sunday, January 11th and then continues on Monday, January 12th. Here’s hoping 24’s new season is light years better than 24: Redemption, the clunker of a made for TV movie they gave us a month ago.

24: Day 7 on FOX Television Poster
It’s really amazing how a show can go from giving us their best work ever (Season 5) and then turn around and give us utter garbage ever since (Season 6 and Redemption). I really want Season 7 to be good, but I’m just not sure that’s possible anymore. There are a few things about 24: Day 7 that might lead to a return to form for the FOX serial action/drama/thriller. The first of which is the return of Carlos Bernard and his previously deceased character Tony Almeida.

24 Season 7 Cast Photo
Tony had been fighting by Jack Bauer’s side since Day 1, and it’s no mere coincidence that the worst season in the show’s history is the one season Bernard was not a part of the show’s large cast. It couldn’t have taken Kiefer Sutherland and co. very long to figure out that Tony’s return from the dead was an outright necessity. The second important change to 24 this season is that Bauer is no longer operating as a CTU agent. Evidently after Season 6 the federal government disbanded the Counter Terrorist Unit altogether, but have no fear Mary Lynn Rajskub’s Chloe O’Brian and James Morrison’s Bill Buchanan are both back for another crazy day in the life of Jack Bauer.

While it’s sad to see CTU’s Los Angeles headquarters go, it frees Jack up to have adventures outside of LA and surrounds him with a whole new cast of characters. I am hoping it also brings a new dynamic to the character of Jack Bauer since he is no longer tied down by CTU’s rules and regulations. I guess only time will tell if Season 7 will be any good or not, but you can be sure The Blot will be tuning in week after week to see what kind of crazy situation Jack gets himself into this time. I just hope he finds time this season to go to the bathroom!

24 airs every Monday on FOX at 9/8c.

Neil Patrick Harris To Host Saturday Night Live This Weekend

The January 10th, 2009 episode of Saturday Night Live is shaping up to be the most legen…wait for it…dairy episode in the history of SNL. Why you might ask? Is it because it’s the first episode of 2009? Nope. Is it because this week’s musical guest is Taylor Swift? Not a chance. It’s going to be awesome because it’s being hosted by How I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris!

Saturday Nighty Live Jan 10, 2009 Episode Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris with Musical Guest Taylor Swift
Saturday Night Live has been on a tear this season and I’m pretty confident it’s going to be just as good this Saturday night with Harris hosting. I’m hoping, no wait, expecting a really funny Doogie Howser, M.D. parody, as well as a new musical Digital Short starring NPH. If you can’t wait til Saturday for SNL with NPH then check out this Saturday Night Live promo video feature Neil Patrick Harris and Will Forte:

Saturday Nighty Live airs Saturdays on NBC at 11:30/10:30c.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen First Look and Official Teaser Movie Poster

The first live action Transformers movie was a huge success (ultimately it grossed over $700 million worldwide) and you know Paramount is expecting even bigger and better things out of its TF sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I definitely prefer my Transformers to look like they did in the Marvel comic books and animated cartoon series, but I actually liked the live action movie and think director Michael Bay did a pretty good job. I still hate what the movie did to the look of some of my favorite childhood toys though. Why oh why did they give Optimus Prime those horrible red flames!?!

Above is the official Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen teaser movie poster and below are two first look action shots from the upcoming release. The first photo features a battle scarred Optimus Prime while the other photo features Megan Fox as Mikaela Banes and Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky running for their lives. Not too much is known yet about Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, but I am sure more details will start to leak out any day now as we inch closer to its summer 2009 release.
