SDCC 09 - Tron Legacy Trailer and Pictures

San Diego Comic Con 2009 - Tron Legacy - Flynn's Arcade: Home of Tron Game TokenOne of the coolest things Aly and I got to experience at San Diego Comic Con a few weeks ago was the viral marketing for Disney’s upcoming film Tron Legacy (also known as Tron 2 or Tr2n). For weeks leading up to Comic-Con, fans were given hints and clues as to where they needed to go in San Diego to find a special arcade game token (seen in the picture to the right), which would gain them entrance to one of the biggest events at SDCC 2009, Flynn’s Arcade. Thankfully The Blot got hooked up with two coins on Thursday.

Honestly, even though we had the coins, neither of us had any idea what to expect once we got there. This nondescript building gave no indication as to what was inside. As it turns out, Flynn’s Arcade was amazing! It was a complete recreation of an 80’s style arcade, including all the classics like Pac-Man, Centipede, Gauntlet, Donkey King, Tron and even an air hockey machine! The games were free, but as it turns out that wasn’t what we were really there to see.

After being lead through a dark hallway adorned with design drawings and sketches of a new light cycle for Tron Legacy, we stumbled upon the event’s piece de resistance, the actual redesigned light cycle for Tr2n. The motorcycle was amazing, and the pictures below really don’t do it justice. Yes, unfortunately translucent blue is no longer the primary color of the Tron light cycle, but I think they did a good job updating it for a new generation. The light cycle looks more futuristic and realistic now, but still harkens back to the original video game/move with its translucent blue highlights.

Best of all, Tron Legacy will be released in Disney 3D! TR2N stars Michael Sheen, Olivia Wilde (who The Blot and Aly got to meet at SDCC) and Jeff Bridges, who reprises his role as Kevin Flynn from the original movie. Tron 2 will hit theaters sometime in 2010.

Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations - San Francisco

San Francisco is one of The Blot’s favorite U.S. cities. Ever since Aly and I visited San Fran a year ago, all we talk about is when are we going back. So I’m pretty excited to watch tonight’s No Reservations and to see San Fran through the eyes of Anthony Bourdain. If you’ve never visited the bay area, I can’t recommend it enough!

Tony begins his trip to San Francisco with a stop at Pirate Cat Radio, a vegan café/radio station, where he chats with DJ Monkey and samples their famous bacon maple latte – a concoction created using real refined bacon despite Pirate Cat’s vegan theme. Bourdain then meets up with his friend Oscar at Tadich Grill, San Francisco’s oldest restaurant, to eat the Hangtown Fry, a combination of oysters, eggs, and bacon inspired by a man’s dying wish for a last meal. And be sure to check out the video clip below from tonight’s episode, which features Tony visiting the Ferry Building Farmer’s Market, where he samples blue cheese and a hearty plate of tamales:

One of the highlights of the episode is the cubana torta, a massive, dripping combination of meats, avocado, cheese, jalapenos, tomato, mayo and fried egg. How good does that sound? But wait, there’s more! Tony then heads to San Francisco’s Red’s Java House, where the cheeseburgers are hot, the cheese is melted, the chili cheese fries are aplenty and the beer is cold. A strangely simple end to a visit to a city that is so interesting, dynamic, and complex.

Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations airs Monday nights 10/9c on the Travel Channel.
