When I saw the “Invention of Colour” t-shirt on Threadless.com earlier this week I instantly did a double take. I was like wow, is Threadless doing a collaboration with Disney!?! The characters on this shirt look just like Mickey and co. did when they first debuted in animated shorts back in the ‘20s. I was blown away by the look and feel of the design and wanted to find out more about the shirt’s creator, Ben Hartnett. Ben explained his thought process behind the design by stating: “I'd worked in the old 40's style once as an animator (in the 90's, not the 40's!) and wanted to do it again on tees. The obvious choice to me was simply to have black and white characters inventing colour, and the best way to get the gag across was to use design clichés that everyone would recognize.”
The skies darken, the wind howls, and you’re drawn to the eerie carnival inhabited by the Carnies, an all new blind boxed mini figure series from the imagination of Brandt Peters. Reminiscent of retro animation, each of the 13 Carnies in this nightmarish new mini series produced by Kidrobot, including the two chases, stand 3 inches tall and are colored in grayscale.
Carnies blind boxes will retail for $9.95 each, and will go on sale on March 4th at Kidrobot stores, kidrobot.com, and select retailers worldwide.
