Iron Man 2 Kubrick Series

While Iron Man 2 is already out in theaters, fans will have to wait until November 2010 for the Iron Man 2 Kubrick series from Medicom Toy and Marvel Comics! This six figure blind box series includes Iron Man Mark IV, Iron Man Mark V, Iron Man Mark VI, War Machine, Whiplash and Black Widow.

Iron Man 2 Kubrick Series - Iron Man Mark IV, Iron Man Mark V, Iron Man Mark VI, War Machine, Whiplash & Black Widow
The Blot's a little confused as to why Marvel would allow the production of Iron Man 2 Kubricks and Minimates, since aren’t Minimates a rip-off of Kubricks? But I guess the more options the better, right?

I haven’t found any mention of the ratios for this series or its secret chase figures, but I’ve got a feeling we’ll be seeing at least one. Maybe we’ll be getting a Pepper Potts or Nick Fury Kubrick figure. The Iron Man 2 Kubrick series goes on sale November 2010 and will retail for around $10-11 per blind box.

Barneyism of the Week - Cab Drivers

“Why are you brunette and driving a cab?” - Marshall

Oh, that.

You know how it’s my dream to have sex with
at least one woman from every country on the planet?

“Sure.” - Marshall

<Barney lowers a world map in his cab>

“Wow, you’re doing surprisingly well in the Baltics.” - Marshall

So, I figured what’s the quickest way
to get around the world in 180 lays?

Lease a cab and wait outside the UN building
for hot foreign chicks.

It was the perfect plan.
There was only one small detail I didn’t take into account.

“Chicks don’t want to bang cab drivers” - Marshall

Chicks DO NOT want to bang cab drivers.

And I put a lot of work into this one.

LOST: The Series Finale Event Tonight!

LOST: The Series Finale Event
Don’t forget, the official "LOST: The Series Finale Event" starts tonight on ABC at 7/6c with “The Final Journey,” a review of the events of the series. This LOST special will also include past and present cast members discussing their experiences on the show. After that it’s “The End” of LOST at 9/8c. And don't forget to stick around for the LOST themed episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! entitled "Aloha to LOST" airing later that evening. This special Sunday night edition of JKL! will feature Damon Lindelof, Carlton Cuse and other cast members as they discuss the show's final episode.

I’m sad, excited, nervous and cautiously optimistic about tonight and I'm really hoping this six year adventure ends with a bang (and a rewarding resolution)! Be sure to come back to The Blot Says… tomorrow for my final thoughts on LOST. I hope we're all not crying too much tonight. ;)

New LOST Screen Prints by Ty Mattson

With only hours until the LOST series finale, The Blot wanted to make sure everyone was aware of a third series of LOST inspired screen prints available exclusively at ABC.com. To commemorate the final season of LOST, award-winning graphic designer (and die-hard LOST fan) Ty Mattson has created 8 original prints inspired by the show. The series celebrates the mystery and mythology of LOST in a modern, minimal style reminiscent of another era.

LOST Screen Print Series 3 - Smoke Monster by Ty Mattson
LOST Screen Print Series 3 - Dual-Locke by Ty Mattson
LOST Screen Print Series 3 - The Eye by Ty Mattson
LOST Screen Print Series 3 - LA X by Ty Mattson
It’s a little strange ABC is jumping in to the LOST screen print phenomenon at such a late date, but I’m sure die-hard LOST fans are happy to know more LOST inspired art is on the way! Especially those LOST fans who missed out on the super limited edition LOST screen prints from Damon, Carlton and a Polar Bear. Each poster is a unique hand-pulled, 2 or 3 color silk-screen print measuring 18x24 on 100lb. white cover.

LOST Screen Print Series 3 - The Numbers by Ty Mattson
LOST Screen Print Series 3 - Montand's Arm by Ty Mattson
LOST Screen Print Series 3 - Bunny by Ty Mattson
LOST Screen Print Series 3 - Dharma Vans by Ty Mattson
The first print in the Ty Mattson LOST screen print series, “Smoke Monster,” is currently available from ABC’s online store. Each print retails for $45.95, which to The Blot is pretty expensive considering we still don’t know if these prints are limited edition or even come signed and numbered by the artist. Nevertheless, the prints are pretty cool looking and I’m sure LOST fans will want to get their hands on these! The remaining 7 LOST screen prints designed by Ty Mattson (Dual-Locke, The Eye, LA X, The Numbers, Montand’s Arm, Bunny and Dharma Vans) will go on sale Monday, May 24th, also known as the day after the LOST series finale.

Lost Season 6 Screen Print #8 - LOST by Olly Moss

The eighth and final print in the new LOST Season 6 screen print series by Damon Carlton and a Polar Bear is “LOST” by the super popular Olly Moss. This is the print The Blot’s been waiting all week for, and it definitely lived up to the hype! Moss continues to blow me away with each and every screen print he releases.

Damon, Carlton and a Polar Bear Lost Season 6 Screen Print #8 - LOST by Olly Moss
Can you identify each and every LOST related element in the print above? If not, here’s a little cheat sheet: John Locke's wheelchair, the Ajira Airways logo, a broken Virgin Mary statue with heroine hidden inside, Sawyer’s glasses, a sonic fence pylon, the Dharma Initiative’s Swan Station logo, dynamite, Dharma fish biscuit, polar bear tracks, Locke’s knife, the Losties’ beach graveyard, Locke’s scar/eye, Charlie’s hand, the watchtower, the skeleton of a Dharma Initiative workman, Hurley’s lottery ticket with “the Numbers,” the Black Rock, Jin’s watch, the atomic bomb Jughead, the hieroglyphics, the Swan Station’s failsafe key, the radio tower, a Dharma van, the donkey wheel, Richard Alpert’s necklace, an ankh, Locke or Christian Shephard’s coffin, Charlie’s “Not Penny’s Boat” hand, the logo of Oceanic Airlines, Jack’s eye opening while laying in the bamboo field from the pilot episode, Nikki and Paolo’s diamonds/a spider’s web, and Kate’s handcuffs.

LOST” by Olly Moss is an 18”x24” screen print, comes hand signed and numbered by the artist, and has a limited edition run size of 550 prints. You could have purchased this print directly from Damon Carlton and a Polar Bear’s online store for $50 each before it sold out.

Lost Season 6 Screen Print #7 - Kate and Claire by Ken Taylor

The seventh print in the new LOST Season 6 screen print series by Damon Carlton and a Polar Bear is “Kate and Claire” by the Australian artist Ken Taylor. Well, we finally got the temple print everyone’s been waiting for, even if it wasn’t exactly the scene we’d been hoping for. The Blot’s not a huge fan of the print’s brown color scheme, but I love the fact that Ken got to tackle the smoke monster again and I think he did an amazing job capturing the essence of Crazy Claire and her psycho obsession with killing Kate.

Lost - What They Died For

Ok, now this was the LOST episode we’ve all been waiting for! Didn’t “What They Died For” just feel like part 1 of the show’s series finale!?! Not only did we get more answers than ever before, but Ben killed Charles Widmore, the Final Four finally got a clue, it actually felt like something happened in the Flash Sideways, and after weeks of alluding to it for weeks, Jack became the new Jacob! All that’s left is one final showdown between Jack and Locke…something we’ve all been waiting years to finally happen.

Lost - What They Died For - Matthew Fox as Jack Shephard & Mark Pellegrino as Jacob
My goal for tonight was to come home after the NY Times Talks Live: LOST event and blog about my thoughts and theories stemming from this week’s episode. I have to admit, I was shocked that Damon and Carlton actually gave some very minor spoilers/teasers for the final episode, and the show actually ended with a non-spoilery clip from Sunday night’s 2 ½ hour series finale. While the clip didn’t actually give anything away, it did make me rethink my latest theory. So while I don’t even necessarily believe this Ben related theory anymore, I’m going to give it anyway (since it’s all I’ve really got this week).

Lost - What They Died For - Jorge Garcia as Hugo 'Hurley' Reyes, Matthew Fox as Jack Shephard, Evangeline Lilly as Kate Austen & Josh Holloway as James 'Sawyer' Ford
My latest theory revolves around why Ben flipped so quickly to the MIB’s side after pledging his allegiance to the Losties just a few episodes ago. Now I never believed Ben would really protect or even believe Widmore’s claims, but I don’t see why Ben would betray Richard and Miles. Then again, so far he hasn’t and maybe he’s just telling MIB what he wants to hear to protect himself. My theory is that Ben is actually playing the MIB and will ultimately turn on him/assist Jack in defeating him. Why else would they have made it a point to point out that Miles and Ben took Widmore’s walkie-talkies so they could communicate while separated on the island? Somehow this Ben/Miles partnership is going to come into play big time.

Lost - What They Died For - Jorge Garcia as Hugo 'Hurley' Reyes, Matthew Fox as Jack Shephard, Evangeline Lilly as Kate Austen, Josh Holloway as James 'Sawyer' Ford & Mark Pellegrino as Jacob
Now what I don’t understand is how the “brilliant” Charles Widmore got himself trapped so easily. After all that planning, why would he and Zoe just walk into the lion’s den like that? While I’m hoping we find out more about Widmore Sunday night, I do have a theory as to why Ben shot Widmore when he did. Ben stated it was because Widmore didn’t have the right to save his daughter, but maybe the shooting was not based solely on revenge. As you may remember, Widmore was in the process of trading information on how he was going to use Desmond for the protection of Penny’s life.

Lost - What They Died For - Alan Dale as Charles Widmore
Maybe, just maybe, Ben shot Widmore to keep him from telling the MIB what his plans were, in essence keeping the MIB from finding out how and why Desmond could be used against him. Then again, I could be completely wrong and maybe Ben really was enraged that Widmore was trying to save the life of his daughter moments after Ben was reminded of Alex’ murder at the hands of Widmore’s men. To be honest, I couldn’t fault Ben for killing Widmore based on either of those reasons...but I guess we’ll find out his real motivation in just a few days. Thoughts?

We only have 2 more days until the LOST Series Finale, and I’m both looking forward to it and dreading it all at the same time. The End is truly here…

Lost Season 6 Screen Print #6 - Jin & Sun by Tara McPherson

The sixth print in the new LOST Season 6 screen print series by Damon Carlton and a Polar Bear is “Jin & Sun” by the very talented Tara McPherson. While “Jin & Sun” may not be my favorite LOST print, it is hands down the most beautiful…if only its subject wasn’t so morbid! I love Tara’s unique style, and her colors (or should I say inks) are always so vibrant and breathtaking.

Additionally, Tara pointed out on her blog that the screen print can “be hung any orientation, which I wanted to do to add to the weightlessness of the characters. Though I did have to pick one side to sign and number them.” You can purchase this print directly from Damon Carlton and a Polar Bear’s online store for $50 each.

Black Dissected Companion Be@rbrick by Kaws

The third and final colorway of the Medicom x Kaws Dissected Companion Be@rbrick is out, and this is definitely my favorite version of the three. Similar to the two previous colorways (seen here and here), the Black Dissected Be@rbrick is being released in three sizes, 100%, 400% and 1000%, with the 100% and 400% Be@rbricks only sold as a two figure set.

Medicom x Original Fake Kaws Black Dissected Companion 100%, 400% & 1000% Bearbrick Vinyl Figures
I can’t figure out if Medicom just made more of Kaws’ Black Dissected Companion Be@rbricks or if the popularity of these figures has waned, but the figures have been out a while and yet they’re still available at retail. I remember thinking the same thing about the Mono Dissected Companion Be@rbricks too, so maybe it’s all in my head!

The 1000% Black Dissected Be@rbrick by Kaws sells for $399.99, while the 100% and 400% Be@rbrick set retails for $179.99.

Obey Giant - Keith Haring Canvas Print by Shepard Fairey

Legendary NYC street artist Keith Haring has been immortalized in Shepard Fairey’s trademark style, and while not perfect, The Blot really likes it. The Keith Haring Canvas Print is a nice mix of Shep’s stencil art with Haring’s graffiti, although I wouldn’t have minded more of Haring’s artwork in the background. Thankfully, Fairey at least included Haring’s Radiant Baby.

Obey Giant - Keith Haring Canvas Screen Print by Shepard Fairey
Growing up, Haring, along with Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, were the holy trinity of pop art to me, and their works continue to influence my pop culture identity today. Because of that, it’s really cool to see the styles of two influential pop artists from the 80’s and 00’s collide in this print.

The Keith Haring Canvas Print by Shepard Fairey is a signed and numbered 18”x 24″ screen print with an edition size of 450 prints. This print goes on sale today, Thursday, May 20th at a random time at the Obey Giant online store. A portion of all sales of this print will go to the Keith Haring Foundation and Photographer Patrick McMullan.

Lost Season 6 Screen Print #5 - Jacob and the Man In Black by Jeff Soto

The fifth print in the new LOST Season 6 screen print series by Damon Carlton and a Polar Bear is “Jacob and the Man In Black” by Jeff Soto. This has got to be hands down the most controversial of the LOST screen prints released so far.

While Soto is a big name in the world of art (and he’s released some killer vinyl figures as well), his design has not won over the LOST community. But, I think many LOST fans were swayed when Soto explained the meaning behind the skull on his blog (link). He stated it is the smashed in skull of Claudia, the biological mother of Jacob and the Man In Black. I think it’s pretty cool piece when you see the symbolism behind it…how the twins grew out of Claudia’s life and subsequent death.

Jonah Hex Character Movie Poster Set

Jonah Hex One Sheet Character Movie Poster Set - Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex
We’re just a few weeks away from the world premiere of the live action Jonah Hex movie adaptation, and Warner Bros. has finally decided to start aggressively marketing the film…and by aggressively I mean actually released some new one sheet movie posters. The Blot’s not exactly blown away by these character movie posters, but they are better than nothing. I just wish they were pushing Hex more in the film’s advertising. I guess they’re a little put off by his scarred face?

Lost Season 6 Screen Print #4 - The Candidate Cave by Guy Burwell

The fourth print in the new LOST Season 6 screen print series by Damon Carlton and a Polar Bear is “The Candidate Cave” by Guy Burwell. The Blot really digs Burwell’s style, and of the four screen prints released so far I think I like this one the best. I think it’s because it has such a comic book feel to it. Every time I look at the image below I think to myself how killer this would be as a splash page in a LOST graphic novel! You can see more of Guy Burwell’s screen prints here, including a killer poster he did for Pearl Jam earlier this month.

Lost - Across the Sea

Last week’s episode of LOST, “Across the Sea,” may have been one of the show’s most hated episodes ever, which is a pretty shocking statement considering how many people also loved the episode. But as Damon Lindelof tweeted last Wednesday, since when is polarizing a bad thing? I have to admit, I wasn’t exactly enamored with last week’s episode, but I didn’t despise it either.

Lost
Ultimately, I was just left feeling sad and confused. Why, with only 3 episodes left EVER, had Damon and Carlton given us an episode that didn’t feature a single primary cast member? While I’ve been dying for a Jacob/MIB-centric episode, was it really appropriate to spend a full hour of LOST on them with only 4.5 hours to go?

Lost - Across the Sea - Kenton Duty as Young Jacob & Ryan Bradford as Boy in Black
The biggest question to me is why did they air “Across the Sea” after the “The Candidate” instead of before? You see, from the interviews I’ve read with Damon and Carlton, the shocking deaths in “The Candidate” were to prove once and for all that FLocke truly is evil (and the real bad guy of the show). However, “Across the Sea” just made MIB a sympathetic character all over again. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to air “Across the Sea” first, allowing fans to empathize with the MIB even more before revealing his true intension to murder every last candidate on the island? While I know FLocke is bad, after watching “Across the Sea” I’m not so sure Jacob is as honest and altruistic as I once believed.

Lost - Across the Sea - Titus Welliver as Man in Black
What frustrated me about “Across the Sea” was learning Jacob might not know much more about the island than we do. I get that the events of last week took place hundreds of years ago (giving Jacob plenty of time to learn all of the island’s secrets), but where does his knowledge actually come from? And is his mission to keep his brother on the island really just based on his crazy adoptive mother’s desire to keep man’s evil tendencies far away from her boys? Like most of LOST’s answers, I’m only left with more questions. This used to be one of the things I loved most about LOST, but with only 2 episodes left I’m starting to wonder if a true answer to why all this is happening is really coming.

Lost - Across the Sea - Allison Janney as Mother, Ryan Bradford as Boy in Black & Kenton Duty as Young Jacob
I could go on and on about the craziness of Jacob and MIB’s “Mother,” the underwhelming discovery that Adam and Eve are really the Mother and MIB, or how ridiculous it is that Damon and Carlton are keeping the MIB’s name such a secret, but I won’t. Instead, I want to talk about my theory surrounding the Mother and the Smoke Monster. I’m now starting to believe that these two supernatural forces have always lived on the island and are in a constant struggle for the island and the world. To me, Mother was grooming the two boys to take over her role as guardian of the island. When MIB stabbed her, she thanked him for setting her free (via her death), which officially made Jacob the new guardian of the island. It seemed like after the wine ceremony between Jacob and Mother, the island was finally done with her and allowed her to die (similarly to how the island let Michael and Jin die when they were no longer needed).

Lost - Across the Sea - Allison Janney as Mother & Mark Pellegrino as Jacob
I assume when MIB’s biological mother appeared to him that was the Smoke Monster. Since she died on the island, the Smoke Monster could take her form. It makes sense (at least to me) that when Jacob sent the MIB into the golden light, he didn’t transform into the Smoke Monster. Instead, the Smoke Monster took the form of the MIB. This explains why the MIB’s body was later found by Jacob in the river and why the Smoke Monster looks, talks and acts like the MIB (but isn’t really him). This theory would also work with Smokey’s recent transformation into Locke. Locke’s dead body was on the beach all along, even though Smokey looked, talked and even shared memories with John.

Lost - Across the Sea - Mark Pellegrino as Jacob, Allison Janney as Mother & Titus Welliver as Man in Black
Ultimately there must always be good and evil on the island in the form of an island protector and an evil smoke like entity. But why they are there is anyone’s guess. What’s really confusing is how at times both entities have acted like their opposite counterpart, which makes me wonder if we’re not just looking at two sides of the same coin. Then again, maybe the smoke monster is truly pure evil and the guardian of the island is our last line of defense against the total destruction of the world…but I doubt it. I honestly have no idea what’s going to happen, I just pray we find out over the next 3.5 hours!

Lost Season 6 Screen Print #3 - The Black Rock by Daniel Danger

The third print in the new LOST Season 6 screen print series by Damon Carlton and a Polar Bear is “The Black Rock” by Daniel Danger. “The Black Rock” is also the first print in the LOST ARG Screen Print Series II to sell out in its first day of release (in less 2 hours to be exact). I think that says a lot about Danger’s popularity and the overall beauty of this print. The quote at the bottom of DD’s print reads “…today is the first time I’ve ever come back,” and I believe the figure in the bottom left hand corner is supposed to be Richard Alpert (you can just make out the strap of his trademark messenger bag in the picture below).
