2010 Free Press Summerfest Screen Print by Jermaine Rogers

This weekend, June 5th & 6th, The Blot will be attending Houston’s Free Press Summerfest, a indie rock music festival at Eleanor Tinsley Park. For a local, small music festival, Summerfest has a surprisingly strong lineup, which includes The Flaming Lips, Girl Talk, Bun B (of UGK), Slim Thug, Ra Ra Riot, Mix Master Mike, Medeski Martin & Wood, Stars, Kid Sister, Dead Prez, Detroit Cobras, Lymby System and Lucero. Best of all, a weekend pass only cost $25!


What’s even cooler is that Jermaine Rogers, one of The Blot’s favorite artists, was commissioned to create the official poster art for the Free Press Summerfest this year (seen below). Not only that, but Jermaine is being brought to Houston to exhibit his poster-art onsite at the Festival! I’ve gotten to meet Jermaine a few times and he is truly an incredible artist who enjoys interacting with his fans. If you’re in the Houston area, be sure to hit up the Free Press Summerfest this weekend and stop by Jermaine’s booth to see (and purchase) some awesome art.


The limited edition Free Press Summerfest poster by Jermaine Rogers will be available at the festival in very limited numbers, along with various other Jermaine rarities, including some prints not available for a while now. Jermaine’s tent will be prominently located near the main stage. Jermaine will be there and looks forward to seeing everyone who drops by. Tubes will also be available for all poster sales, and there will be arrangements for your purchases to be held for you until the end of the days show.

The Free Press Summerfest print measures approximately 30”x20” and is screen printed in brilliant pastel colors. This print has a signed and numbered edition of only 100 prints, but there will also be a couple of very limited variants that will available in even small quantities. A limited number of these prints will be held back for an upcoming online sale, including the Facebook Foil Edition.

CBS’ Hawaii Five-O Official Trailer

Like most LOST fans, The Blot’s been dying to see a preview of the upcoming CBS procedural crime drama Hawaii Five-O. This is because the Hawaii based show stars Daniel Dae Kim in his first role since LOST went off the air. So far the show is getting pretty good reviews, but here’s your opportunity to judge for yourself....below you can watch the official first trailer for Hawaii Five-O:

Super7 - Clear Smoke Glitter Big Sal by Kathie Olivas & Brandt Peter

Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters's Big Sal vinyl figure is back! The spaced out tentacled asylum escapee is fading into the dark of night, cast in clear smoke glitter vinyl. Big Sal is clearly one of Super7’s more popular Monster Family figures, and The Blot knows fans across the globe are anxiously awaiting the release of this clear grey with glitter colorway.


This will also mark the first Big Sal ever purchased by The Blot. As you all know, I’m a sucker for clear vinyl, especially clear vinyl with glitter, so how could I resist? Plus, he’d look killer next to my unpainted and painted clear smoke with glitter Mummy Boys (seen below).


The Clear Smoke with Glitter Big Sal will go on sale Saturday, June 19th, at the Super7 online store and will retail for $30 each.

SDCC 2010 DC Universe Classics Plastic Man Action Figure Packaging

One of the San Diego Comic-Con exclusives we’re all stoked to see is the one and only malleable immortal, DCUC Plastic Man. Being that he’s a DC Comics super hero and all, Mattel felt like his packaging should be equally impressive and here’s your first look!


This special packaging has been shaped to look like Plastic Man, and it comes in a full-color shipper box for safe keeping. But the coolest thing of all? A pair of Plastic Man glasses are included that can be removed from the package and worn by you!


The figure itself has interchangeable standard arms, stretchy arms, giant form hands (a fly swatter and a bouncy ball with racket), and interchangeable stretchy neck and leg springs. If you do purchase Plastic Man at SDCC, he’ll also come with a special suitcase available only at the show (packed in a separate poly bag). But of course it’s not just any suitcase… Plastic Man’s arms, head and neck can be attached to the suitcase to make him appear disguised as luggage. Inside the suitcase is a chip-art comic book cover from the 75 years of DC Comics.

Iron Man 2 Metal Variant Poster by Tyler Stout

It’s rare that The Blot gets really blown away by a release, but I was when I saw the photos of Tyler Stout’s limited edition 24″x36″ Iron Man 2 Metal Variant Poster on Mondo Tee’s blog. This poster looks amazing! It’s just too bad I’ll probably never see one of these in person. Here’s hoping Stout puts a few of these up for sale on his website.


If you’ve been following the Mondo Tees blog, then you know they’ve recently renovated their storefront. Mondo officially reopens tomorrow, June 4th, and to celebrate the remodel they will be releasing the all metal variant of Tyler Stout’s Iron Man 2 poster. These are just sick posters, and Tyler even stopped by D&L to sign them! You can see the original two versions of Tyler Stout’s Iron Man 2 screen prints here.


These IM2 metal variants will strictly be an in-store exclusive, meaning they can only be purchased in person at Mondo’s Austin storefront, and have a limited edition run size of just 65 pieces. There will be no phone orders for this release and Mondo will not be shipping these to anyone. Doors open up at 5pm tomorrow, so be sure to get there early for one of these amazing posters.
