Today is a big day for The Blot as it marks the world premiere of the new Pearl Jam documentary PJ20 directed by Cameron Crowe, which highlights the Seattle band’s twenty year career. Cities all around the globe are hosting one night only screenings of PJ20, to see if there is a theater near you (and if tickets are still available) click here. As you all probably know, The Blot is a lifelong diehard Pearl Jam fan, so of course I bought tickets for Houston’s screening of the film as soon as they went on sale. It’s hard to believe the band has already been around for twenty years! I still remember where I was when I heard the band’s debut album Ten for the very first time. I was 12 years old and at summer camp, and my life would never be the same again…

Pearl Jam Twenty Hardcover Book

If you’re not familiar with Pearl Jam Twenty, it chronicles the years leading up to the band’s formation, the chaos that ensued soon after their rise to mega-stardom, their step back from center state, and the creation of a trusted circle that would surround them…giving way to a work culture that would sustain them for two decades. Told in big themes and bold colors with blistering sound, the film is carved from over 1,200 hours of rarely seen and never before seen footage spanning the band’s career. Pearl Jam Twenty is the definitive portrait of Pearl Jam: part concert film, part intimate insider-hang, part testimonial to the power of music and uncompromising artists.

To coincide with the documentary, Pearl Jam has also released a Pearl Jam Twenty hardcover book ($22) that chronicles the band’s past two decades with a forward by Crowe, an official Pearl Jam Twenty Soundtrack ($16), which includes 2 cds and 29 tracks of rare and unreleased recordings, and the official Pearl Jam Twenty DVD for $14.
