“Mayhem Picnic” Resin Figure Box Set by Paul Kaiju

“Mayhem Picnic” Resin Figure Box Set by Paul Kaiju - Pasty Batsy, Biter Baby, Chibi Welt & Seagool Resin Figures

Paul Kaiju, one of the hardest working artists in the toy scene, has done it again with this all new “Mayhem Picnic” box set of four PK resin figures. The “Mayhem Picnic” set includes a magnetic Pasty Batsy with optional base, a magnetic Biter Baby, an eel faced Chibi Welt, and the nasty Seagool and his parasitic underling who, unfortunately, is stuck in the nest. Is this one crazy picnic or what!?!

Paul has only created four of these awesome “Mayhem Picnic” resin figure box sets, so you know these are going to disappear in a flash. All figures were sculpted, cast and painted by Paul Kaiju, and each set comes packaged nicely in the custom box seen above. Each set will retail for $150 and can be purchased directly from Paul Kaiju via his online store sometime very, very soon! So keep your eyes peeled on PaulKaiju.com.

Quentin vs. Coen: An Art Show Tribute to Tarantino and the Brothers

“Quentin vs. Coen: An Art Show Tribute to Tarantino and the Brothers“ presented by Spoke Art

Last night was opening night for Spoke Art’s newest pop culture art show entitled “Quentin vs. Coen: An art show tribute to the films of Tarantino and the Brothers.” A follow-up to last year’s highly successful “Bad Dads: An Art Show Tribute to the Films of Wes Anderson,” Spoke Art has arranged a battle-royal style art show featuring over 100 world class artists from the new contemporary art scene. Painters, screen printers and digital artists were invited to reinterpret their favorite scenes, characters and films from the heralded directors, resulting in an eclectic showing of inspirational fine art.

“Raising Arizona“ Screen Print by Matt Leunig

The first installment of Spoke Art’s “versus” series, “Quentin vs Coen,” looks to expand on the concept of a pop culture themed art show by pitting together two directors who share overlapping or similar stylistic themes, and allowing the viewer to decide their favorites. Though there are many distinct differences between the bodies of work created by both Quentin Tarantino and the Coen Brothers, their crafting of generation-defining soundtracks, the penchant for ubiquitous violence, their casting of the same actors (notably Steve Buscemi), and their ability to constantly create spectacular works of varying genres (everything from Kung-Fu to crime dramas to westerns), have cemented both Quentin and the Coens as some of the most important directors of our generation.

“Putting out the Fire“ Screen Print by Cassie Podish

With over 100 artists participating, The Blot can’t highlight (or even list) all of the amazing talent involved in this show. So instead I picked a couple of my favorites to highlight in this post like “Putting out the Fire” by Cassie Podish, “Raising Arizona” by Matt Leunig and “True Grit x Kill Bill” by Steve Seeley. Skullwalker Bronze Figure by Brian Flynn

Skullwalker Bronze Figure by Brian Flynn

From out of a dream, the Skullwalker blissfully wanders the Earth oblivious to the destruction his giant footsteps may cause! The Skullwalker bronze figure by Super7’s Brian Flynn is truly an amalgam of designer toy and art sculpture. While The Blot loves the figure, a 3” bronze figure retailing for $300 is definitely not for everyone. But then again, isn’t that what this hobby is all about? Small run figures that have a very specific audience is what made the designer toy craze so popular. While The Blot won’t be adding Flynn’s Skullwalker to my toy/art collection, I’m envious of those that are.

The Skullwalker by Brian Flynn is cast in solid bronze and has a limited edition run size of just 30 figures. Each numbered figure will retail for $300 each and can be purchased starting today, Friday, April 8th, at 11am PDT at the Super7 online store.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Screen Print by Tom Whalen

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Disney Screen Print by Tom Whalen

The second officially licensed Disney screen print from Mondo and Sideshow Collectibles goes on sale today and it’s “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” by Tom Whalen.  Whalen has now provided the artwork for the first two Mondo x Sideshow Collectibles Disney screen prints, so I have to ask...is he’s designing the entire series?  Who Framed Roger Rabbit? is one of The Blot’s favorite movies, but for some reason it’s become the forgotten Disney classic. I guess it’s because it’s not a fully animated film? There are so many great characters in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Disney really needs to do more with this movie.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” by Tom Whalen is an 18"x24" hand numbered screen print. This print has a limited edition run size of 210 pieces and will retail for $40 each. “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” goes on sale at a random time today, Friday, April 8th, at the Mondo online store. A variant of this print will be sold by Sideshow Collectibles at a later date.
