RJ-K5 Astrofresh Basketball Droyds by JK5

Now this is the kind of release that reminds me why I fell in love with designer art toys in the first place! JK5’s RJ-K5 Astrofresh Basketball Droyds combine three of my favorite things (street art, basketball and Star Wars) in a fresh new way. I have to give Kidrobot props with this one. They’ve finally gone back to their roots and released a true urban art toy with an old school feel.

This is not the Droyd you are looking for. Joining two of the best things on earth, New York based Flowbot artist JK5 blends his passion for hoops and a certain George Lucas series to create the RJ-K5 Astrofresh Basketball Droyds. Available in 2 editions: the regulation orange colored Galactic Game Ball and the retro red, white, and blue Hyperspace All-Star, these figures are crafted of resin and stand 8.5 inches tall.

The Rj-K5 Astrofresh Basketball Droyds will retail for $100 each and are scheduled to land at all Kidrobot retail locations, Kidrobot.com and select retails worldwide on March 8th. Only a perfect number of each colorway has been produced (327 to be exact), so make sure you act fast. May The Ball Be With You!

Doktor A x Funky Peanut Rupture Funky Sleeves Mobile Device Covers

The Blot just found out about a really cool release that I know readers of TheBlotSays.com will really like! UK company Funky Peanut has teamed up with Doktor A to release a line of limited edition Funky Sleeves featuring Dok’s signature Rupture design. Funky Sleeves are stylish covers to protect your mobile devices, including iPads, Kindles, Android tablets, Macbook Pros and other laptops.

The extremely popular and abundantly toothy Rupture character has assaulted the art toy world for several years, and now he’s taking on the world of electronics! Doktor A has updated his Rupture design especially for Funky Peanut’s inaugural release by giving “it a little more attitude than the previous versions.” Funky Sleeves will initially be available in three sizes to suit a wide range of mobile devices and retail for between £18.99-27.99 each (with Funky Peanut offering free shipping worldwide!)

The Funky Sleeves are manufactured from high quality 5mm neoprene with a black super soft fleece lining. The all black military grade zipper, black metal pulls and black trim perfectly complement the Rupture design. NBA Pop! Series 1 Concept Artwork by Funko

Funko has teamed with MINDstyle (yes, that MINDstyle) to produce a line of officially licensed NBA Pop! vinyl figures. Series 1 includes Lebron James, Blake Griffin, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Pau Gasol, Rajon Rondo, Kevin Love, Lamarcus Aldridge and the reigning MVP, Derrick Rose. While these figures look awesome, The Blot has just one question…where’s the beef? As in where’s Kobe Bryant!?! Pau’s great, but the Lakers fan in me needs a Kobe Pop! vinyl figure immediately. I guess I'll just have to wait until Series 2.

As a University of Texas alum, I also think it’s pretty cool to see two fellow longhorns included in this release, Kevin Durant and Lamarcus Aldridge. I guess they can’t say we’re just a football school anymore! Funko also leaked the preliminary artwork for a future Jeremy Lin NBA Pop! vinyl figure. This would make a pretty sweet New York Comic-Con 2012 exclusive wouldn’t it?
