SDCC 2012 Exclusive Death DC Comics/Vertigo Action Figure by Mattel

San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Exclusive Death DC Comics/Vertigo Action Figure by Mattel

It has been a very long time since The Blot got really excited about a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive from Mattel, but when I do it almost always is a DC Comics figure. The last was probably 2009 when Matty released the Wonder Twins box set. But when I heard Mattel was releasing a Death action figure at San Diego Comic-Con 2012 I got giddy! What are the odds of a release like this!?! I guess it shouldn’t have been such a surprise to see an action figure of a primarily Vertigo characters since Mattel just released a Swamp Thing action figure last year, but I really was seriously shocked by the announcement.

Some envision Death as a grim reaper or dark angel to be feared. But as created by Neil Gaiman for DC Comics’ line of Vertigo comics, the Sandman`s older sister is pretty, perky and always gets the job done. Death’s been around since the beginning of time and is exactly the kind of girl you`ll want to follow into the unknown. Mattel’s 8” Death action figure wears her trademark ankh necklace, comes with a skull-themed display base and retails for $25 exclusively at the MattyCollector.com SDCC 2012 booth.

SDCC 2012 Exclusive Vykron Masters of the Universe Action Figure

San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Exclusive Vykron Masters of the Universe Action Figure by Mattel - Military Warrior, Spaceman & Barbarian

It may only be early May, but companies are already debuting their exclusives for this summer’s San Diego Comic-Con! First up from Mattel is the Vykron Masters of the Universe action figure. If clothing really does make the He-Man, then this pitch prototype for the 1982 lineup is destined to be the star of the MOTU 30th Anniversary celebration thanks to a choice of three outfits: barbarian, spaceman, and military warrior!

If you purchase Vykron at Mattel's SDCC 2012 booth, you’ll get him dressed in package as a barbarian, but after Comic-Con you purchase him at MattyCollector.com packed as a spaceman or military warrior (all three outfits are included regardless of where he’s purchased). Each San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Vykron action figure will retail for $30 and include one “buck,” or figure, with three different outfits and helmets to interchange between space, military and barbarian looks.

Breaking Gifs: A Breaking Bad ARG & Screen Print Series

Breaking Gifs - A Breaking Bad ARG and Screen Print Series

Has it really been almost three and a half years since comedian Paul Scheer unveiled the Damon, Carlton and a Polar Bear website at San Diego Comic-Con 2009 while The Blot was in attendance at the last official LOST panel? DCaaPB ended up being a front for a new LOST alternate reality game (or ARG) that Jensen Karp and Gallery1988 had created to launch a new series of LOST screen prints and a corresponding LOST group art show. The Blot got heavily involved in those poster scavenger hunts and met some amazing people from around the globe in the process. Can lightening really strike twice?

Well, Scheer, Karp and G1988 are at it once again with an all new ARG centered around AMC’s hit television show Breaking Bad (another of The Blot’s favorite shows). The ARG and its corresponding website have been entitled “Breaking Gifs,” which is a mix of Breaking Bad and animated gifs. Why? I have no idea. At this point all we definitely know is Gallery 1988 is involved and it is an official Breaking Bad art project. The rest we’ll find out along the way! Are you ready to go along for the ride? I know I am…more details to come!
