Toy Review: Mutant Jawa Resin Figure by Killer Bootlegs

A few weeks ago The Blot blogged about Killer Bootlegs newest kitbashed resin figure, the Mutant Jawa. Well, I was lucky enough to get my hands on one a few days before their release this weekend and let me tell you it’s pretty awesome! It is made from a vintage Jawa and a vintage Yoda mashed together to create a new race of Mutant Jawas. The figure is extremely clean and the mold lines are almost nonexistent. But what really puts this figure over the top is the little monster’s bootleg vinyl cape! Not only is it excellently made, it looks just like those crappy capes from Kenner’s original Star Wars line.

So at this point you’re probably asking where can I get one of these little Mutant Jawas to add to my collection? Well, here’s the awesome part of this release: Killer Bootlegs will be crashing Wizard World's Chicago Comic-Con (August 9th-12th) and handing out 100 FREE Mutant Jawas, most of which will be random one off colorways and clear variants! How cool is that? Each figure will come bagged with a Wizard World Chicago Exclusive header and all you have to do to get one is track down a Killer Bootleg crew member (who will be wearing Killer Bootleg gear) at WW Chicago this weekend.

Pearlescent Grey Garuru by Itokin Park

After a brief hiatus after SDCC 2012, Super7 is back regular weekly sofubi releases! To kick things off is this beautiful pearlescent grey version of Garuru, Itokin Park’s popular member of the Monster Family! Garuru fails to fight back a yawn as he stumbles drowsily out of the wilderness. Hopefully, Garuru wakes up and enjoys the scenery of his new home (your toy shelf).

Garuru is cast from pearlescent grey vinyl (containing tiny flakes of reflective metal) and features metallic gold and silver sprays, with additional details in black and red. This cute vinyl figure stands 4” tall, features 1 point of articulation (at the neck) and goes on sale at the Super7 online store today, Thursday, August 8th, at noon PST for $35 each.

CAPSLs Interactive Keychains by Jason Freeny

Following up his "Pop Anatomy" sculptures, the super talented Jason Freeny shows us all once again that it's what's on the inside that counts with his new line of super-durable, interactive keychains called CAPSLs. Freeny, who made his name by dissecting toys, designed these keychains with pocket-sized personalities and just enough space to store your smallest goodies, like candies, mints, prescriptions, or whatever it is that keeps you going.

Freeny is partnering with FCTRY, an independent product design firm, on this exciting release which is already available for purchase through CAPSLs.com. The first series of CAPSLs features 12 original designs ranging from sweet (Flower Bomb) to zany (Frog Squid). The tops and bottoms of each CAPSL creates an airtight seal, and they’re interchangeable, so you can mix and match with more than 100 combinations. In addition to the original 12, several special limited edition CAPSLs will be released over the next few weeks.

Insa x LALA Gallery LA Rainbow Heel Screen Print with Metallic Candy Flake!

Later today LALA Gallery will be releasing a brand new Insa print, and I think it’s safe to say this is one of the most beautiful prints The Blot’s ever seen! There are three different versions of this print, each with a different colored candy flake added in which changes color depending on how the light hits the print. From the pictures I’ve seen on Instagram, the candy flake detail is seriously incredible!

The Metallic Candy Flake Heel Screen Print by Insa goes on sale today, August 9th, at the LALA Gallery online store at 9am PST. Each 7 color split fountain print measures 30”x30”, and features a spot varnish and metallic candy flake. There are three variants in all: the Silver Galaxy Edition ($500) which is limited to 5 pieces, the Black Magic Edition ($250) which is limited to 20 pieces, and the Ruby Red Edition ($300) which is also limited to just 20 pieces.
