For this week’s Funko Friday release, Funko unveiled its newest Hikari vinyl figure, Gigantor! If you’re not familiar with this awesome animated robot, Gigantor is an American adaptation of the classic anime Tetsujin 28-go, a manga by Mitsuteru Yokoyama. What’s crazy about this character is he originally debuted back in 1956 and hit US television screens in 1964. While The Blot is more familiar with the ‘80s version of the Gigantor series, it’s really cool to see this character reemerge onto the pop culture land scape with this beautifully painted “Original” Gigantor Hikari vinyl figure.
Hikari, meaning “light”, is a highly collectible line of pop culture figures cast in soft Japanese vinyl (but made in China). Each “Original” Gigantor Hikari vinyl figure includes a hand numbered card to prove authenticity and rarity, and comes packaged in a full color window box perfect for display. Limited to 1,300 pieces, this Hikari vinyl figure is not expected to hit store shelves until May 2015, but you can pre-order one now at Entertainment Earth for $49.99 here.
