Guzu Gallery presents Deep Cuts 2: 12” Tributes to Our Music Heroes

Austin, Texas is the “Live Music Capital of the World”, and on any given night you can find live music playing up and down the streets of downtown Austin. Add to this the annual music festivals and rich history of the city's music scene and you begin to understand where Austin gets its well-deserved moniker. This fall, Guzu Gallery pays homage to its hometown's strong musical tradition with a sequel to last year's successful music-themed art show, “Deep Cuts”.

For “Deep Cuts 2: 12" Tributes to Our Music Heroes”, Guzu asked each artist to pay tribute to a beloved music icon, cult hero or legend in the form of an album-sized screen print. Each 12”x12” limited edition print will be sold for just $25.

The Deep Cuts 2 opening reception will be held tonight, Friday, September 26th, from 7-10pm, and the artwork will remain up through October 20th. On opening night Guzu will be featuring live music by Austin dream pop trio, Yum, and indie rock quartet, Antiques. Guzu Gallery welcomes everyone to the show, but if you can't make it out, the artwork will be available for purchase in their online store on Monday, September 29th around noon CDT.

SDCC 14 Exclusive “Robots” Daft Punk Vinyl Figures by Kidokyo

At San Diego Comic-Con 2014 BAIT will unleash the newest collectible from Tsunami Syndicate artist Kidokyo! Kidokyo’s pair of San Diego Comic-Con 2014 Exclusive Robot vinyl figures are inspired by a iconic French electronic music duo Daft Punk, who are known for their signature robotic costumes as much as their hit tracks. These two Robots are designed in a super-deformed style, featuring a large head that places emphasis on the figures’ two different helmets. The Robots are limited to 100 pieces each, and will retail for $75 individually or $120 as a duo exclusively at the BAIT SDCC booth #4949.

“Dance Punks” Bootleg Daft Punk Resin Figures by Kris Dulfer

Kris Dulfer of Kid Ink Industries has been hard at work on a new series of Daft Punk inspired bootleg resin figures entitled Dance Punks. Man do these 2.75” Robot Disco Jockeys resin figures look awesome or what!?! While these hand cast Dance Punks are not articulated, they do bear a remarkably striking resemblance to Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter.

There are two different Dance Punks editions to choose from at the Kid Ink Industries online store, and both are pretty freaking cool! The Randomly Accessed Memories Edition is limited to just 8 sets and comes hand painted and unpackaged for $80 per set. Dulfer has also produced 2 one of a kind sets of Glow in the Dark Dance Punks, each coming packaged on a hand painted Plexiglas blister card for $120 per set. The packaging alone makes these GID sets a release not to be missed!

Loyal K.N.G. Spring/Summer 2013 T-Shirt Collection

The creative minds over at Loyal K.N.G. have unleashed another fantastic pop culture inspired collection of t-shirts. Their Loyal K.N.G. Spring/Summer 2013 T-Shirt Collection has a little something for everyone, especially if you’re a hip-hop, movie, music or animation buff! I mean come on, who doesn’t want to sport the Tupac x The Simpsons design “Homme-Pac” the awesome Daft Punk tee inspired by their new album Random Access Memories. TRON: Legacy Translucence Identity Disc Vinyl Record by Daft Punk

One of The Blot’s favorite days of the year is almost upon us, Record Store Day! This is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music and release a ton of limited edition CDs and vinyl records. This year Disney is getting in on the act by releasing this Record Store Day limited edition TRON: Legacy Translucence 10” vinyl record by Daft Punk. What’s cool about Translucence is it comes pressed on a translucent vinyl record, which features the design of a TRON: Legacy Identity Disc and will be available in three colors: blue, orange and yellow.

The TRON: Legacy Translucence limited edition vinyl record features four songs by Daft Punk, three from the TRON: Legacy Soundtrack (“Derezzed,” “TRON Legacy,” and “End of Line”) and a fourth song, “Castor,” which was previously only available on the special edition bonus CD. This Record Store Day exclusive release comes packaged in a clear cellophane wrap and a see through sleeve to allow for visibility of the 10” picture record without having to be opened.

Loyal K.N.G. Winter 2010 Collection

If you love pop culture as much as The Blot, then I suggest you check out the awesome t-shirts and hoodies from Texas indie clothing brand Loyal K.N.G. (Knowledge Never Goes)! I first learned about the talented artists that make up Loyal K.N.G. a few months ago, and finally got to meet them at the H-Town Sneaker Summit a few weeks ago. They have really mastered the art of taking pop culture icons and turning them on their head in fun designs (take for instance their “Ghostly DOOM!” design, which features a mash-up of Casper the Friendly Ghost and rapper MFDoom).

Earlier this week Loyal K.N.G. officially released their Winter 2010 collection, which I got to see in person at the aforementioned H-Town Sneaker Summit. It’s made up of four unique designs, each featuring some pop culture heavyweights. “Warriors,” The Blot’s favorite of the four new designs, reimagines the Scott Pilgrim crew as The Warriors gang from the 1979 film of the same name. “United Monsters” depicts everyone's favorite monster Godzilla with his friends and foes setting aside their differences in a united monster effort.

Next up is Loyal K.N.G.’s “Bad Apple” t-shirt. The apple is an iconic fruit; it's been labeled as the fruit of knowledge, the forbidden fruit, and is commonly used in combination with poison to send princesses into a deep sleep, however at Loyal K.N.G. their apples are dope fresh! Last but not least is the killer Daft Punk x Super Mario Bros mash-up “Daft Bomb.” Loyal K.N.G. are huge Daft Punk fans, and they pay tribute to the French duo with this illustration featuring Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter riding a Bullet Bill, the missile-like enemy of Mario and Lugi.

All four of the designs above come in multiple colors and styles, including t-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts. They range in price from $30-60 each, and can be purchased directly from Loyal K.N.G. at their online store. But act fast, because colors and sizes are selling out quickly, and once these limited edition t-shirts and hoodies are sold out they’ll be gone forever!

TRON: Legacy Daft Punk 100% Be@rbricks

To coincide with the release of TRON: Legacy and the TRON: Legacy soundtrack by Daft Punk, Medicom will be releasing a ton of TRON and Daft Punk figures over the next few months. This includes the just announced TRON: Legacy Daft Punk 100% Be@rbricks, which will be a part of Medicom’s Be@rbrick Series 21.

Each figure will be sold separately blind box style, and feature Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter dressed in the outfits they wear in the film. Be@rbrick Series 21 blind boxes retail for around $10 and will go on sale in December 2010.

Disney x Medicom TRON: Legacy Daft Punk 100% Kubrick Set

If you didn’t already know, world renowned recording artists Daft Punk wrote and recorded the official soundtrack to the upcoming Disney film, TRON: Legacy. The electronica superstars also have a brief cameo in the movie as, of course, club DJs. To commemorate this monumental collaboration, Medicom Toy has produced a TRON: Legacy Daft Punk 100% Kubrick 2 pack featuring Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter as they appear in the film.

The TRON: Legacy Daft Punk Kubrick set will go on sale sometime in January 2011 and will retail for around $40.  Rumor has it 400% versions of the two figures seen above will also be released sometime soon after.
