Retroband “I can't stop the Monster I created” Solo Exhibition at Bottleneck Gallery

The Blot was super excited to learn that artist Aaron “Retroband” Moreno’s first ever solo gallery exhibition – “I can't stop the Monster I created” – will be taking place on Saturday, September 21st, at Bottleneck Gallery! Known for projecting ‘70s and ‘80s horror film-fueled fantasies onto his vinyl-cast MEATS sculpture, Moreno's showcase will focus on renditions of this disquieting form.

Manifesting through an impressive array of hand-painted/modified MEATS pieces, as well as an unprecedented selection of “raw” unpainted versions, “I can’t stop the Monster I created” will introduce the award-winning artist’s newest interpretation of his monstrous character, one inspired by Japan’s Ma-Ba Zombie toy line.

Also debuting at the exhibition is a 154-page retrospective titled “MEATS by Retroband”, an art book from CoART Publications. Comprised mainly of specially-commissioned photographs by Bryan Sargent, this full-color monograph details every hand-painted/modified MEATS rendition by Moreno from the form’s 2015 introduction until mid-2018. How cool is that!?!

With all available works sold on a first-come, first-served basis (initial limit of one piece and one book per person), Moreno’s “I can't stop the Monster I created” is a free-to-the-pubic exhibition hosted at the Bottleneck Gallery contemporary art space — 60 Broadway in Brooklyn, NY — on Saturday, September 21st, 2019 from 6-9pm.

The Blot is a HUGE fan of the cult classic John Carpenter film They Live, so you know I’m all about this insanely epic Consume Edition Meats vinyl figure by Retroband that is dropping this weekend at Designer Con 2018! Gristle Marbled GID Vinyl Figure by Retroband x Zectron x Unbox Industries

Later today our friends at Little Rubber Guys will be exclusively releasing this beautiful new marbled colorway of the epic Gristle vinyl figure by Retroband and Zectron! This bad boy is 5” from tail to snout of pure unbridled awesomeness!!! Produced by the magical wizards at Unbox Industries, each figure is one of a kind with a marbled mixture of pink, white and glow in the dark vinyls! What’s insane is these figures actually glow blue. You’ve gotta see one to believe it.

The Marbled Gristle Glow in the Dark Vinyl Figure was designed by Retroband and Zectron (who also masterfully sculpted the piece) and comes packaged in a polybag with stunning header art drawn by Zectron and colored by WorthyEnemies. MondoCon 2 Report: Unbox Industries Booth with Lots of New Figures!

One of The Blot’s personal highlights of MondoCon 2015 was getting to meet Dan Willett of Unbox Industries and Texas’ own Retroband! Unbox Industries has been producing some amazing designer art toys the past few years, and have really been pushing the boundaries of what you can do with the medium of vinyl. I especially love how they are constantly looking for new and exciting artists to work with that you may not associate with the designer art toy scene. I only does Unbox Industries work with Mondo to produce many of their collectibles, but they’ve started working directly with many of Mondo’s acclaimed stable of artists.

If you were at MondoCon 2 last weekend then you know there was a lot of exciting talk going on about some of the upcoming designer vinyl figures on display at Unbox Industries and the artists they are currently working with. The hit of MondoCon seemed to be Gog by Rob Jones, which looked freaking incredible in person! I can’t believe all the detail they crammed into this figure. To me it really has an old school designer art toy figure from the scene’s gold age. Then there is the Weedian by Arik Roper, which is just a beautiful 3D rendering of Roper’s amazing artwork. These three figures look amazing and creepy as hell all at the same time!

The Blot was also super excited to in person Retroband’s new soft vinyl figure Meats!!! This hulking behemoth looks fantastic, and I love all the crazy wicked detailing Retroband put into this massive killer. Each figure will include two resin weapons, and I can’t wait to see what crazy accessories Retroband comes up with to include with the homicide Meats.

It was also cool to see John Kenn Mortensen’s Three Witches vinyl figures and Skinner’s Lolgolth Gnazgoroth in person. These toys are perfect examples of the type of groundbreaking work Unbox Industries is producing with a venerable who’s who of the art world. Meats Vinyl Figure by Retroband x Unbox Industries to Debut at MondoCon!

Retroband is heading to MondoCon this weekend with Unbox Industries where they’ll be debuting the Texas artist’s newest figure, Meats!!! While not much is knowing about this hulking behemoth, he’ll be cast in soft vinyl and include two killer weapons. At Designer Con 2014, Retroband will release “Caught’n Cody”, the newest figure in its awesome Retroband Kids bootleg resin figure toy line! SDCC 14 Exclusive Toxic Timmy Bootleg Resin Figure by Retroband

The Blot squealed like a little girl when I first saw DKE Toys’ announcement of the San Diego Comic-Con 2014 Exclusive Toxic Timmy Bootleg Resin Figure by Retroband!!! This figure is definitely winning The Blot’s made up award for most creative SDCC exclusive of the year. Inspired by his TAG Gallery submission of Toxic Timmy, Aaron Moreno of Retroband has created a mini version of the radioactive mutated child for his upcoming new series titled Retroband Kids. Each 2” mini resin figure comes carded on a traditional 2.5"x3.5" Garbage Pail Kids inspired trading card with artwork by Aaron Moreno.

Alex Pardee x Retroband “Snake Eyes” G.I. Joe Bootleg Resin Action Figure

Alex Pardee and Retroband have teamed up once again to produce a crazy new bootleg resin action figure entitled “Snake Eyes”! While the figure is cool, The Blot’s really loving the retro G.I. Joe inspired blistercard packaging, which pages homage to the world’s most famous Snake Eyes. Based on an original painting and story by Alex Pardee, each Snake Eyes resin action figure comes signed and includes 2 signed 8”x10” Snake Eyes giclee prints and an official pamphlet on the origin of Snake Eyes.

Alex Pardee x Retroband Bunnywith Bootleg Resin Action Figure

Last weekend Alex Pardee’s Bunnywith solo art show opened at Gallery 1988. While there were tons of awesome Bunnywith prints, The Blot’s personal favorite piece in the show was this Bunnywith collaboration with Retroband. The two artists teamed up to produce a bootleg resin Bunnywith action figure packaged in a retro Kenner Star Wars style blister card! The packaging is pretty sick if I do say so myself. Limited to just 20 pieces, the Alex Pardee x Retroband Bunnywith bootleg action figure comes signed and numbered by Alex and can be purchased from the Gallery 1988 online store for $150 each.
