SDCC 13 Exclusive TY_PO GRAPH Custom Figures by Ryan the Wheelbarrow

Debuting this year at Dragatomi's SDCC Booth #5350 is Ryan the Wheelbarrow’s latest and greatest custom vinyl series, TY_PO GRAPH! This dynamic display of custom vinyl art toys is a sort of self collaboration…a merging of Wheelbarrow’s graphite/watercolor/ink "DRAWINS" and the typographic chaos of his vintage dry transfer fonts. Both contrasting styles are organic in application and delicate in nature. This set truly represents Ryan the Wheelbarrow’s artwork at the present moment. There will be seven one of a kind TY_PO GRAPH customs available this weekend, from a 2.5" Trikky to an 8" Dunny with prices from $80 to $400.

NYCC 12 Exclusive Kinda Blu Custom Series by Ryan the Wheelbarrow

Ryan the Wheelbarrow has been hard at work on a new series of customs for New York Comic-Con 2012 entitled Kinda Blu! The Kinda Blu ty_po 3″ Dunny series has a limited edition run size of 7 pieces available blind boxed style for $75 each. Each figure has been crafted with dry transfer instant lettering and Montana spray paint. There is 1 chase in the series that features a hint of Ryan’s [O8STACLES] style popping out if its head! It’s a pretty cool effect if you ask The Blot!

Wheelbarrow is also releasing his first custom Fonzo in his very crisp Kinda Blu text_r style and is entitled “hint hint wink wink.” Created using di-cut vinyl letters and Montana spray paint, this one of a kind 6” custom vinyl figure will retail for $150. Along with Fonzo, Ryan has customized his first Mega Munny as well. The Kinda Blu Mega Munny ($750) features Wheelbarrow’s latest styling nicknamed x-text_r. x-text_r uses matte and glossy spray paints with dicut vinyl letters as a mask. The Blot’s really loving this new effect Wheelbarrow has come up with! I love seeing how his unique art style is constantly growing and evolving.

Dragatomi Exclusive Ty_po Androids Series 1 by Ryan the Wheelbarrow

The impending invasion of Ryan the Wheelbarrow's Ty_po Androids Series 1 will commence today, March 1st, exclusively at Dragatomi! A case of 3" DIY Androids have been graphically consumed by Ryan with organized chaos of fractured fonts to create 16 truly unique designs. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and hand-crafted with dry transfer instant lettering on glossy spray paint. Utilizing vintage letters and numbers, half of the series has a glossy white base with one variant featuring red accents, while the other 8 are silver with a 2nd variant dawning blue additions.

The Dragatomi Exclusive Ty_po Androids Series 1 by Ryan the Wheelbarrow goes on sale at 12noon PST on Thursday, March 1st, in-store and at Dragatomi’s online store. Each vinyl figure retails for $80 and is limited to only one per person.

Ryan the Wheelbarrow has just put up a pretty cool option in his online store that I know readers of TheBlotSays.com are going to be excited about. For a limited time only, you can place an order with Ryan for a unique, made-to-order custom art toy! Ryan is offering either a 3” Dunny ($60) or a 1.5” Labbit ($40), and collectors get to pick the Text_r base color of their choice. After that, each custom Text_r vinyl figure is created with white di-cut vinyl letters and glossy spray paint.

But don’t waste too much time picking a color, only 5 Labbits figures and 10 Dunny figures are available for pre-order and both are going fast! Both are currently available through the Ryan the Wheelbarrow online store.

NYCC 2011 Exclusive Text_r Custom Series by Ryan the Wheelbarrow

Ryan the Wheelbarrow, the same artist who created the inventive Ty_po custom Dunnys, has created a new series of custom creations entitled text_r! For New York Comic-Con 2011, Wheelbarrow has customized a 10″ Labbit ($350), a 4″ Bub ($150) and an eight piece blind box series of 1.5″ Labbits ($40 each). These visually striking figures, created with di-cut vinyl letters and glossy spray paint, will be sold exclusively at the myplasticheart NYCC booth #879.

As an added bonus, Ryan the Wheelbarrow will be conducting a 1 hour screenprinting demo on Sunday, October 16th, at the myplasticheart booth #879 from 1-2pm, where he will be creating and giving out free custom screenprints! How cool is that!?!

SDCC 2011 Exclusive Ty_po Dunny Series 2 by Ryan the Wheelbarrow

For those of you attending San Diego Comic-Con 2011, be sure to stop by Dragatomi’s Booth #4935 for some amazing custom toys, including Ryan the Wheebarrow’s new Ty_po Dunny Series 2. This exciting new black and gold 14 piece 3” custom Dunny series will be blind box assorted in hand screen printed boxes and will retail for $60 each. Created with spraypaint, die cut vinyl lettering and dry transfer instant lettering on a 3" Dunny, then glossed for your viewing pleasure.

Ryan will also be dropping 2 fresh ty_po dunny 8" Dunnys, which utilize his new combination of up-cycled vinyl stickers with the vintage Chartpak & Letraset fonts. One clean and one not so much. The golden one ( ex. 8c - x sell_nt ) combines the masking of adhesive die cut letters with gold spray paint and a glossy coating. The black design ( ex. 8d - old scratch ) as well as the Ty_po Dunny Series 2 uses said masked golden vinyl letters to create a negative balance with controlled chaos. All contain various text_ures with abstract eyes peering into your soul and giving them each their own individuality. Both 8" one-offs will also come with hand screen printed boxes and retail for $260 each.

Later today, Ryan the Wheelbarrow will be dropping an all new set of one of a kind ty_po custom vinyl figures! This 1of1 ty_po custom set includes various vinyl platforms, each featuring three text_ural tones of slightly controlled chaos. Wheelbarrow has applied his trademark ty_po abstract designs on a Mini Munny ($120), a Marshall ($120), two 3" Dunnys ($60 each) and two 1.5" Labbits ($35) using vintage dry transfer instant lettering with a combination of gold, GID and/or glossy spray paint. Five of the above figures (all except the gray Labbit) will be available in Ryan the Wheelbarrow’s online store starting today, Tuesday, May 31st, so get one while you can!

"Cast in Plastic" Custom Toy Show Opening Night at Domy Books

On Saturday night The Blot attended my very first custom toy show, and I have to say…it was awesome! Featuring custom toys by artists from around the world, “Cast in Plastic: Art from the Designer Toy Revolution” exceeded even my greatest expectations. Not only were there some truly amazing custom toys, but collectors from around the state of Texas showed up in droves to be a part of Houston’s first designer toy show. Domy Books was packed Saturday night, and The Blot was on hand with my Flip and camera to document the evening. While I was really excited to do some live reporting, let me just warn you…I’m not quite as good with the video camera as I thought I would be. Then again, it was fun putting together the first TheBlotSays.com video!

Cast in Plastic Custom Toy Show at Domy Books This Saturday!

This weekend is a monumental event in the Houston designer toy scene, the city’s very first custom toy show! After months of teasers, “Cast in Plastic: Art from the Designer Toy Revolution,” curated by Marie Ung, will be debuting this Saturday, May 14th, at Domy Books (aka the epicenter of designer toys in Houston) from 7-10pm. The show includes over 30 different artists from around the globe showcasing their unique skills on a variety of vinyl platforms. The Blot will definitely be in attendance Saturday night, and I look forward to not only meeting fellow collectors but giving readers of TheBlotSay.com an in-depth review of the show!  Finally, an opportunity to use my Flip video recorder for some good old fashion toy blogging.

[O8STACLES] Custom Toy Series by Ryan the Wheelbarrow

The Blot’s got to say, the more I see of Ryan the Wheelbarrow’s “we_rd art” on vinyl toys the more I’ve come to love his unique, abstract style. Since 2002, he has been adapting 2 low end forms of typographic communications (screen print and sign shops) to produce an art practice of organic typographic abstraction on whatever canvas or object he can find. The longer you look at these weird little things the more interesting they begin to look.

Flash forward to 2011 and you can see the evolution of The Wheelbarrow’s style in his newest custom toy series entitled [O8STACLES]. This custom series will include a 13 piece 3" DUNNY blind-boxed series with one lucky box including a matching 1.5" Labbit (each blind box retails for $55).

Along with the 13 blind boxes, [O8STACLES] will also include three sets of 8"/3" Dunny sets ($300 each) and a 5”/1.5" Labbit pack, which will retail for $160. Each [O8STACLES] custom vinyl figure was created with screen printed acrylic on vinyl stickers and comes packaged in a unique screen printed box. [O8STACLES] launches this Monday, March 21st, at 9am EDT in Ryan the Wheelbarrow’s online store.

Ty_po 8 Inch Custom Dunnys by Ryan the Wheelbarrow

If you loved Ryan the Wheelbarrow’s custom Ty_po 3” Dunnys Series as much as The Blot, then you’re really going to enjoy his next release! Ryan’s taken his Ty_po look to the next level by applying dry transfer instant lettering to two 8” Dunnys. There are two one of a kind Dunnys in this Black and White Set, a black Ty_po Dunny with white lettering and a white Ty_po Dunny with black lettering.

Ryan the Wheelbarrow’s custom Ty_po 8” Dunnys will retail for $260 each, and go on sale this Friday, February 25th, at 8:11pm EST in his online store.
