A New Action Packed Star Trek Beyond Teaser Movie Poster

While I want to love this new Star Trek Beyond teaser one sheet movie poster, there’s one part The Blot just can’t get over. Who thought it was a good idea to include Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk on a motorcycle!?! That was by far the most derided part of the film’s original trailer (along with the use of a Beastie Boys song). It just felt so out of place in the trailer, and now they’re bring attention to it again by including it in this otherwise pretty cool looking one sheet.

I don’t know who came up with this idea, but it’s brilliant! Something about this toy line reminds me of the Star Trek animated series from the 1970s. While it only lasted two seasons and 22 episodes, Star Trek: The Animated Series holds a special place in The Blot’s heart. I can still remember watching reruns of it as a kid on Nickelodeon. Star Trek: The Original Series ReAction Series 2 includes Captain Kirk, Scotty, Gorn and Vina.

Clearly Funko has taken to heart collector complaints from their first round of ReAction releases, and worked hard to make sure these figures more closely resemble the Star Trek actors. This iconic TOS episode and Spock’s look in the show is now immortalized as a Previews Exclusive Pop! Television vinyl figure by our friends at Funko. This is a unique collectible for fans of the classic Star Trek series to acquire as it’s one of the only times Spock wasn’t portrayed as a completely emotionless officer.

Star Trek "Journey to Babel" Screen Print by Tom Whalen

The fourth print in Mondo Tees’ Star Trek Screen Print Series is “Journey to Babel” by Tom Whalen. Its subject is episode #39 of Star Trek: The Original Series, which was of course titled “Journey to Babel.” In this episode, the Enterprise tasked with transporting dignitaries from a number of different races to a peace conference, only to find out an assassin is among their ranks. “Journey to Babel” is actually an important part of the Star Trek mythology because it marks the first ever appearance of Spock’s parents, Ambassador Sarek and his human wife Amanda.

"Journey to Babel" by Tom Whalen is an 18″x24″ screen print, and goes on sale today, Friday, October 22nd, at the Mondo Tees online store at a random time. "Journey to Babel" has a limited edition run size of 260 prints and will retail for $35.

Star Trek “The Trouble With Tribbles” Screen Prints by Olly Moss

Mondo Tees will be continuing its line of screen prints based on episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series with not one, but two new prints by Olly Moss! One of the show’s most identifiable aliens by both Trekkers and the general public alike are the cute, yet deadly, multiplying Tribbles! Moss pays homage to the classic Star Trek episode “The Trouble With Tribbles” in his trademark minimalist style.


The Blot is really digging both versions of these prints, and I especially like how Moss was able to include the entire crew of the USS Enterprise in both versions (well at least the outline of their heads). There are two versions of Olly’s Star Trek print, a blue Spock Edition and a red Uhura Edition, which also, coincidentally, matches the colors of their Starfleet uniforms.


The Star Trek “The Trouble With Tribbles” is an 18”x24” two color screen print by Olly Moss, and will go on sale Friday, July 23rd, at the Mondo Tees online store at a random time. The Spock Edition screen print has a limited edition run size of 350 prints, while the Uhura Edition has a much small run size of only 190 prints. Bad Robot 100% Be@rbrick by Medicom

The Blot’s been meaning to blog about this vinyl figure for a while, because I thought LOST fans would get a kick out of learning Medicom has released a 100% Be@rbrick of the Bad Robot mascot as part of its blind boxed Be@rbrick Series 19. As most LOST fans know, Bad Robot Productions (also known as just Bad Robot) is the production company of J.J. Abrams and has produced all of his hit television shows including Felicity, Alias, LOST and Fringe. Bad Robot has also co-produced all of the films Abrams’ has directed, including Mission: Impossible III, Cloverfield and 2009’s Star Trek.


Last year, Medicom and Bad Robot teamed up to produce Star Trek Be@rbricks (seen here and here) in conjunction with the reboot of the franchise. Along with a Spock Be@rbrick, a Bad Robot Be@rbrick was also included in the Be@rbrick Series 19. While Be@rbrick blind boxes are relative cheap (each under $10), the Bad Robot Be@rbrick is one of the rarest designs in the series with a ratio of 2.9%.

The Bad Robot Be@rbrick is definitely one of the coolest 100% Be@rbricks The Blot’s seen in a long time, and I’m definitely hoping to get my hands on one sometime soon to add to my LOST Be@rbrick and Kubrics!

Star Trek Inspired Screen Print “Generations” by Mr. Brainwash

If you’ve been following the raging Mr. Brainwash debate online, then you know the art world doesn’t quite know what to make of this enigmatic French artist. Whether you love or hate MBW, you can’t deny he’s provocative. While The Blot doesn’t love everything he does, I can appreciate his passion for pop culture, and nothing personifies that better than his Star Trek inspired screen print “Generations.”


“Generations" features the crew of the Starship Enterprise (Kirk, Spock, Bones, Sulu and Uhura), a member of the Gorn species (a race of humanoid reptiles) and some other random people in a retro, old school looking photo. Mr. Brainwash did a similar print with Star Wars characters, and while they’re not everyone’s cup of tea I really like them!

“Generations” is a 22”x30” seven color screen print on archival art paper. The print includes gold and silver metallic inks, comes signed and numbered by the artist, and also includes his thumb print on the back. This Star Trek themed screen print goes on sale Tuesday, April 13th, at 12pm PST at the Mr. Brainwash online store. MBW is only creating 75 of these retro styled prints, and even at $300 a pop they will almost assuredly sell out in a matter of moments.

Star Trek Spock 100%, 400% & 1000% Be@rbricks by Medicom

It looks like Medicom is embracing its inner Vulcan! After releasing a 100% Spock Be@rbrick as a part of its Be@rbrick 19 blind box series in honor of last summer’s blockbuster movie Star Trek, Medicom is now planning to release a 400% and 1000% Spock Be@rbrick! Medicom releases very few characters/designs in all three Be@rbrick sizes, so you know the Japanese toy company realizes the popularity of the Enterprise’s science officer.


The Spock 400% and 1000% Be@rbricks are currently available for pre-order directly from Medicom (the figure will begin to ship in June 2010), but unfortunately the designer toy company will only ship these awesome looking figures in Japan. The 400% Spock Bearbrick is around 11 inches tall and retails for around $80, while the 1000% Spock Be@rbrick is around 27.50 inches tall and retails for around $325.
