Jason Mraz’s 2008 We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. North American Fall Tour

Jason Mraz finally announced the North American tour dates for his 2008 We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. fall tour and it’s put The Blot in quite the predicament. As you all know, The Blot is a huge fan of Mraz and I’ve been waiting a while for him to return to Houston. When his 2008 North American tour was finally posted on his official website I was excited to see he would be playing in Houston on a Saturday night. That is until I realized the show was on the same night as another concert I’ve been eagerly awaiting, the Cold War Kids.


Aly and I haven’t been to too many shows this summer and I expected to make up for that this fall as Houston’s music scene kicks into high gear with the opening of a new House of Blues and an influx of indie bands as they travel through Houston on their way to ACL in Austin. Unfortunately, the two shows on the top of my must see list of concerts got schedule for the same night. What’s a guy to do?


As of now it’s up in the air, but I could squeeze both in if I’m able to get to Austin the night before to see Mraz at Stubbs and then return home to see the Cold War Kids that Saturday night at Warehouse Live. It’s not exactly the best plan since it would mean having to drive to Austin after work on Friday in rush hour, but we’ll see. For those of you planning on seeing Jason on one of his many tour stops, the talented Lisa Hannigan will be opening for him on all of the dates up until Nashville on November 30th.

Jason Mraz - We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.

Hello, my name is The Blot and I’m a Jason Mraz fan. Yes, I know that’s frowned upon by the indie hipsters, but I’m ok with that. I’ve loved Mraz’s eclectic style of pop, rock, folk and hip-hop ever since his debut album Waiting For My Rocket To Come. Since then I’ve been hooked. Besides having his first two albums (the aforementioned Waiting For My Rocket To Come and Mr. A-Z), I’ve also amassed somewhere around 20 recordings of live concerts, his hard to find EPs and seen him in concert twice: once playing acoustically with Toca while opening for Alanis Morissette’s acoustic tour to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Jagged Little Pill and once headlining his own tour with a then unknown James Blunt and Tristan Prettyman opening.


Ok, now that we have that out of the way I can tell you about Mraz’s latest album, We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things., which hit stores yesterday. The album, released by Atlantic Records, features guest appearances by Colbie Caillat on “Lucky” and James Morrison on “Details In The Fabric”.


To promote his newest album, Mraz also released three EPs for a limited time. The three EPs entitled We Sing, We Dance and We Steal Things, contain live and alternate versions of songs featured on We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. I hope that’s not too confusing. I’m listening to the new album now and while a lot of its songs are a lot slower tempo than I would prefer, it’s still a fantastic album. I definitely enjoy Mraz's earlier work more, but I have to listen to this album a few more times before I pass judgment. Until then check out We Sing. We Dance.
