“Pierced: Shades of Grey” Vinyl Sculpture by Parra & Kidrobot

Never one to miss out on an opportunity to cash in on a popular release, Kidrobot has teamed up with world renowned Dutch artist Parra to release a second colorway of his immensely popular Pierced vinyl figure. For Pierced: Shades of Grey, Parra turns the bright hues of his original art piece to muted shades of grey. The contrasting matte and high gloss 10” vinyl sculpture has no front or back, instead it tells its story in the round.

Pierced: Shades of Grey depicts two figures entwined and suspended in a dramatic dance of passion and pain. This fiery embrace between two lovers, one clothed and one nude, changes from an ecstatic and intimate moment to an impaling brutal display of empowerment all based on the direction you are looking at the piece.

Produced as a limited edition of 750 with Parra’s signature engraved on the bottom, Pierced: Shades of Grey goes on sale on January 31st at Kidrobot stores, kidrobot.com, and select retailers worldwide for $150.

“Pierced” Vinyl Sculpture by Parra

Inspired by the melodramatic cover art of romance novels and based on his original silkscreen artwork, Dutch artist Parra (store) has crafted “Pierced,” a 10” tall vinyl sculpture that has no front or back, telling its story in the round. The Blot complains pretty regularly that Kidrobot is not doing enough to push the designer art toy scene forward. So I have to give KR its due when they release a beautiful piece like Pierced. The Blot loves Parra’s pop art and this vinyl statue looks (at least from the pictures) pretty incredible!

Using his signature post-pop imagery and highly saturated colors with contrasting matte and gloss finishes, Parra depicts two figures entwined and suspended in a dramatic dance of passion and pain, revealing multiple levels of love. From one angle, the scene is an ecstatic and intimate moment between lovers. Change your view, and a brutal display of empowerment is revealed. A clothed man impales a nude woman’s neck.
