Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope Screen Print by Greg Ruth x Mad Duck Posters

Mad Duck Posters continues its awesome Alfred Hitchcock screen print series with this fantastic new movie poster for Rope (starring James Stewart) by artist Greg Ruth! As Mad Duck Posters explained, “Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope is one of the best crime/mystery movies ever made. Two young men believe they have committed the perfect crime, and as they become increasingly more daring, their old teacher begins to suspect... The movie is unique in movie history as it required just 10 shots to film!  As a comparison, The Birds required 1360 shots to complete the film.”

Greg Ruth went on to say about his work the following: “The rope is of course allegorical, not to be confused with his actually wearing the ropes - but Stewart’s character is being essentially tied and strangled by the murder he is responsible for instigating by his own dark philosophy and his ignorance of it being put it into practice. It’s the moment of horror for him, that the shape of his ideology is that strangled boy in the box they’ve all been dining atop of. It’s the unspoken hidden image made plain and uncloaked by academic flourish and theoretical behavior. To participate in the reduction of the symbol would be to cheerlead for the murderers in the story, and push against the very thing he finds so horrid about their actions in the end.”

The Kraft-Tone Paper Bag Kraft Paper shows the appearance of texture to mimic rope with a color similar to the original movie posters. Star Wars Ahsoka Screen Print by Greg Ruth x Empire Magazine x Bottleneck Gallery

While The Blot was traveling last Friday, Bottleneck Gallery released this epic new Ahsoka screen print by artist Greg Ruth! For this release, BNG teamed up with Empire Magazine, which originally used this beautiful image as a Star Wars cover for its magazine. The Blot is a huge Star Wars: Rebels fan and it was amazing to return to that corner of the Star Wars Universe for the first two episodes of Ahsoka last week on Disney+.  Ruth did an amazing job with this portrait of a portrait image, featuring Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka outlined by the profile of the evil Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Mondo’s Dune Screen Print Series by Greg Ruth, Tradd Moore & Akiko Stehrenberger

Today, Mondo will be releasing three movie posters for the new film, Dune, by artists Greg Ruth, Tradd Moore and Akiko Stehrenberger! As Mondo explained, “All three are mind-killing gorgeous, displaying the same level of kung-fu that Denis Villeneuve reveals on the screen.”

The first presents Greg Ruth’s gorgeous, tall take on his LP cover art. I have not met anyone who adores DUNE more than Greg. He went all out and, additionally, swaddled THE DUNE SKETCHBOOK vinyl release in the same artful care.

The second is by Tradd Moore. If you have’t clocked Silver Surfer Black by Donny Cates and Tradd Moore, then be nice to yourself. Cates presented a Galactus angle that I throughly enjoyed, but Moore’s art made me shake. That became a worm attracting internal tremor, when viewing the finals for this wild take.

The third is by Akiko Stehrenberger. I’m sure I whispered an expletive under my breath when I opened the color version in my email the first time. It felt a bit like a magic trick. “Silence of the Lambs was always a tricky one I avoided these last few years for being both almost over obvious in its temptation to focus on Anthony Hopkins’ Hannibal, or that so many have made excellent alt posters for it already. Having the opportunity to use Jodie’s likeness and keep it focused on Clarice was the game changer. To me this film was always about her rather than anyone else. It’s her evolution, her becoming that the film is about as a parallel alongside Buffalo Bill’s. The moth is a symbol speaking to Clarice, whether she knows it or not. Bill then is a more incidental dragon she has to slay in order to complete her warrior’s evolution, with the aid of the captured dragon in Hannibal. It’s why the film ends with her graduation. But this moment in Bill’s lair, on his turf deep in the cave of his depravity, at this particular moment where she turns and fires... that volcanic scene was what I wanted to focus on.
