This amazing new resin figure is a killer mash-up of Boba Fett with the classic children’s book, Where The Wild Things Are. Each figure features Boba Fett frolicking around in a Wookiee fur costume just like Max in Where The Wild Things Are.

Where the Wild Things Are Movie Poster Screen Print by Matt Taylor x Spoke Art

Where the Wild Things Are Movie Poster Screen Print by Matt Taylor x Spoke Art

The Blot is pretty enamored with Matt Taylor’s new movie poster screen print for Spike Jonze’s film Where the Wild Things Are (based on Maurice Sendak’s iconic children’s book). I just love his use of black negative space with a sprinkling of light peeking through the brush. This wonderful poster was produced by Spoke Art and released in conjunction with a screening of the film at the Roxie Theater in San Francisco.

Where the Wild Things Are by Matt Taylor is an 18”x24” hand numbered screen print with metallic gold ink. Limited to just 75 pieces, this is available now at the Spoke Art online store for $40. Collectors can also purchase signed AP copies of the poster directly from the artist at his online store here for £40.

Where The Wild Things Are Screen Print by Ken Taylor

Where The Wild Things Are Standard Edition Screen Print by Ken Taylor

We’re just 2 weeks into 2014 and already we’ve had 2 different Where The Wild Things Are announcements! You’d think there was a live action movie coming out soon or something. I don’t think the 2009 film is getting a sequel any time soon, but I’m glad to see the book is still as popular ever. Mondo has teamed up with Ken Taylor to produce a beautiful Where The Wild Things Are screen print based on Maurice Sendak classic children’s book. As always, Ken absolutely killed it with his design!

Where The Wild Things Are Variant Screen Print by Ken Taylor

Where The Wild Things Are by Ken Taylor is a 21”x36” hand numbered screen print. The Standard Edition has a limited edition run size of 350 pieces and will retail for $50, while the Variant has a limited edition run size of 150 pieces and will retail for $75. Both prints go on sale at a random time today, Thursday, January 16th, at the Mondo online store.

Where The Wild Things Are Pop! Vinyl Figures by Funko

Where The Wild Things Are Pop! Books Vinyl Figures by Funko - Max & Carol

Funko launches its new line of Pop! Books vinyl figures with the iconic children’s book Where The Wild Things Are! This is one of The Blot’s personal favorites, and the world can always use more Max and Carol toys. I especially love the paint on these. Max’s metallic gold crown really pops, and they did a killer job giving Carol that muted, weathered look. Here’s hoping we see more Wild Things get the Pop! treatment soon.

Each Where The Wild Things Are Pop! Books vinyl figure stands 3.75” tall, features one point of articulation and comes packaged in a full color displayable window box. These figures aren’t expected to hit store shelves until August 2014, but you can pre-order them now from Entertainment Earth for $9.99 each here.

Where The Wild Things Are One Sheet Character Movie Posters

We are now just a week away from the premiere of the live action adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s book, Where The Wild Things Are! While The Blot is still super excited to see this film, I am troubled by some of the reviews I’ve read. A lot of movie critics have reported that the film is really scary and not necessarily for children. That bothers me a lot, because bottom line Where The Wild Things Are is a children’s book written for kids.

Where The Wild Things Are Promo Character Movie Posters - James Gandolfini as Carol
Now part of me thinks “hey, it was directed by Spike Jonze, what did you expect?” He took a children’s book popular with people our age and made a movie of it for people our age. The fallacy in that way of thinking is the book isn’t just ours. It came out in 1963 and is just as popular today as it was back then. Kids were reading it in the 60s and 70, and they’ll be reading for decades to come. What you would hope for is a timeless adaptation that will hold up for future generations, sort of how I envision the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

I just know how much I loved this book as a child and can only imagine how excited I would have been back then if a live action movie adaptation of this caliber would been in the works, especially if the kind of CGI special effects they have today was around in the 80s and 90s. With that being said, I am awe of these newly released Where The Wild Things Are promotional character movie posters. Just looking at these one sheet movie posters and seeing these characters from my childhood look so real and alive is amazing.

Where The Wild Things Are Promo Character Movie Posters - Michael Berry Jr. as The Bull
I was hoping that same kind of excitement and awe would be instilled in children all around the world by looking at these movie posters. But now I worry that even if it is, they won’t enjoy the movie because it’s too adult and scary. Hopefully the critics are wrong and kids today are able to handle more than we could when we were their age, but I’m not so sure. And if they can, is that a good thing? Either way, I’m still really excited to go see this movie and purchase the soundtrack. I could want the film’s trailer everyday and never get sick of it!

Where The Wild Things Are Max 400% Kubrick

While The Blot has been drooling over the previously announced Where The Wild Things Are 100% Kubricks for months now, the new WTWTA 400% Max Kubrick blows away all other Where The Wild Things Are figures. Just look at this nearly 8 inch tall figure, I dare you tell me it’s not amazing. Not only do you get a 400% Kubrick, but you get one in a legit wolf costume that looks to be removable. The fact that Medicom Toy went so far as to make a real wolf costume out of fabric with a tail and whiskers for this figure is unbelievable!

Medicom Toy - Where The Wild Things Are Max 400% Kubrick
The Where The Wild Things Are Max 400% Kubrick also includes the crown and cane seen above and comes in window box packaging. The figure is not scheduled to arrive in stores until sometime in December 2009, but it can be preordered now directly from Entertainment Earth for $149.99 here.

Where The Wild Things Are, the live action movie adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s book directed by Spike Jonze, debuts in theaters on October 16, 2009.

Where The Wild Things Are Trailer #2 - A Must See!

There is nothing The Blot could possibly say that would do justice to the greatness that is the official second trailer for Spike Jonze’s live action movie adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s story Where The Wild Things Are. So I won’t even try. Just trust me and watch it:

I honestly don’t know what’s better, the clip’s story, its visuals or the stunning music tying it all together. Either way this is truly an incredible movie trailer! After I saw it for the first time, I rushed into the other room to show it to Aly. We were seriously both giddy after watching it and now we both want to go read the book again for the first time in decades. Now that is the effect a movie should have on its audience.

Where The Wild Things Are 100% Kubrick and Be@rbrick Set

Medicom Toy is also releasing a Where The Wild Things Are 100% Kubrick and Be@rbrick set to go along with its Where The Wild Things Are Kubrick series (similar to its Lost releases). This two figure set features a hooded Max with crown and an all black Max/Where The Wild Things Are 100% Be@rbrick.

Where The Wild Things Are 100% Kubrick and Bearbrick Figure Set by Medicom
The Where The Wild Things Are 100% Kubrick and Be@rbrick set is expected to hit store shelves sometime in October 2009 to coincide with the release of the live action Where The Wild Things Are movie based on Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s book of the same name. The WTWTA Kubrick/Be@rbrick set will retail for $19.99.

Where The Wild Things Are Kubrick Series

The live action Where The Wild Things Are movie comes out October 16th, 2009. That same month Medicom Toy will be releasing its Where The Wild Things Are Kubrick series. The Where The Wild Things Are Kubrick series will include Max and all seven Wild Things from Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s book. I don’t know about you guys, but with all of the sculpting and details on the Wild Things Kubricks they don’t really even look like Kubrick figures anymore. Nevertheless, these will be a must get for any die hard WTWTA fan.

Where The Wild Things Are Kubrick Vinyl Figure Series by Medicom
Each Where The Wild Things Are Kubrick blind box will retail for $9.99 or you can purchase a case of 24 blind boxes on sale at Urban Collector here for $191.99. I haven’t seen any mention of this set’s ratios yet, but you can be certain some figures will be harder to get than others and I am sure Medicom has a chase or two up their sleeves. Since all of the WTWTA characters are accounted for, I am guessing any variant figures produced will be alternate colorways.

New Where the Wild Things Are Teaser Promo Movie Poster

Jim Henson's The Muppets - Sweetums and Milton Berle in The Muppet MovieDo you know what The Blot sees every time I look at this new Where the Wild Things Are teaser promo movie poster? Sweetums from the Muppets! I know I must sound like a broken record, but why did Jim Henson not make this movie 20 years ago!?! Henson wouldn’t have needed the “high tech” special effects Spike Jonze is utilizing to make Where the Wild Things Are. Back in the day all Henson needed was fabric, foam and lots and lots of fake hair/fur. Heck, Sweetums could have even starred in Where the Wild Things Are as either Tzippy, Moishe or Aaron. Did anyone else know that Sweetums first debuted over 30 years ago in 1971’s The Frog Prince?

Where The Wild Things Are Official Trailer

Like The Blot said last week, I have no idea if Where The Wild Things Are will be good or not, but this trailer is a serious step in the right direction. The Wild Things of Where The Wild Things Are look awesome and based on viewing this fun little trailer I’m actually excited to see this film at my local theater (and that’s something I don’t usually say about most movies). Check out the film’s first official full length trailer below, which gets mad brownie points from The Blot for playing the Arcade Fire’s terrific song “Wake Up” in the background.

Where The Wild Things Are Teaser Movie Poster

The Blot, like most American kids, grew up reading Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are. I’ve wondered for years why a live action movie adaptation of the beloved children’s book has never been made. Jim Henson could have definitely made a sick Where the Wild Things Are in the same vein as the 1986 classics The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. Thankfully the film sat in limbo for years until movie special effects could properly adapt Sendak’s cast of scary yet fun Wild Things.

Where The Wild Things Are Teaser Movie Poster
Where The Wild Things Are - Max Records as MaxMuch has been made about the stryfe surrounding production of Where the Wild Things Are, but I have faith in Spike Jonze’s vision for this movie. It may be misplaced, but from interviews I’ve read he sounds to have a real passion for this project. I am excited to see how the film’s combination of live action, suitmation, animatronics and CGI turns out. The movie’s first teaser poster was unveiled yesterday and so far so good. The Wild Thing, which dominates the poster, looks awesome and I love Max’s trademark wolf costume and crown. I can’t wait to see the movie’s first official full length trailer, which is set to debut on March 27 before screenings of Monsters vs. Aliens.
