Johnny Cupcakes x Coachella 2013 T-Shirt

Johnny Cupcakes x Coachella 2013 T-Shirt

Is The Blot the only person wanting to go to the 2013 Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival just for the t-shirts!?! The second design in Coachella’s 2013 artist series of t-shirts has been unveiled and it’s by Boston’s own Johnny Cupcakes! Not much is known about this design, but rumor has it there will be at least two colorways of it (maybe one per weekend of Coachella?).

This awesome Coachella 2013 t-shirt design by Johnny Cupcakes will be available for purchase during both weekends of the music festival at the Coachella Boutique (not with the regular Coachella t-shirt venders). Coachella takes place April 12-14, and repeats itself again on April 19-21, at Indio, California.

Luke Chueh x Coachella 2013 T-Shirt

Luke Chueh x Coachella 2013 T-Shirt

Once again Luke Chueh was invited to contribute a t-shirt design for the 2013 Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival. While Luke’s design for Coachella 2012 focused on the unbearable heat of the Palm Desert, this year he “decided to create something that felt like "rock 'n roll" and complimented a music festival such as Coachella.” To do this Luke pays tribute to David Bowie's iconic Aladdin Sane cover by slapping a pink lightning bolt across his bear's face that turns into tears dripping from its right eye. What a killer shirt, right!?! Now The Blot just needs to figure out how I’m going to get my hands on one!

This awesome Coachella 2013 t-shirt design by Luke Chueh is actually based on the untitled 6”x6” acrylic on panel painting seen above. This grey t-shirt and a number of other artist designed tees will be available for purchase during both weekends of the music festival at the Coachella Boutique (not with the regular Coachella t-shirt venders). Coachella takes place April 12-14, and repeats itself again on April 19-21, at Indio, California.

For the 4th year in a row, EMEK has designed the poster for the Coachella Music Festival. The Coachella 2010 “Snake” poster depicts one of the fire breathing sculptures from the festival and is a 22”x30.5” 9 color silkscreen featuring a gorgeous metallic blue ink. 2009 Coachella Poster and Line-Up

The Road to the 2009 Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio, CAAfter seeing the official line up for the 2009 Coachella Music and Arts Festival, The Blot realizes the rumor of the decline of the three day music festival has been greatly exaggerated. The Blot was as turned off as anyone by the recycled lineups of last year’s music festivals, but Coachell seems to be making a concerted effort to turn things around. While headliner Paul McCartney continues the trend of festivals bringing in an established act from decades ago, it’s still freaking Paul McCartney! He’s a Beatle for god sake and I think it would be pretty cool to see him perform even if he is 20-30 years past his prime.

The 2009 Coachella Music and Arts Festival Line-Up Poster
The other two headliners, The Killers and The Cure, leave a little to be desired for a big music festival’s closing acts, but I do love me some Killers so I can’t complain too much. Plus, the rest of this year’s Coachella schedule is pretty sick. It includes acts such as Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, Amy Winehouse, Thievery Corporation, My Bloody Valentine, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Leonard Cohen, Conor Oberst, Beirut, the Black Keys, Girl Talk, TV on the Radio, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes, MSTRKRFT, Lupe Fiasco, Peter Bjorn and John, the Hold Steady, M. Ward and (surprisingly) Shepard Fairey!

What Fairey will be doing at Coachella is anyone’s guess. Maybe some live painting on stage while another act performs? You can check out the entire 2009 Coachella line-up by clicking on the Coachella 2009 line-up poster above.

The Coachella Music and Arts Festival takes place April 17th, 18th and 19th in Indio, California. It is recommended to purchase your tickets in advance, which you can do so directly from Coachella on their website here. 3 day weekend passes are $269 and single day passes are $99.

Prince Joins Coachella Lineup

CoachellaAccording to Billboard.com, “Prince will make what is believed to be his first U.S. festival appearance ever at Coachella later this month.” (link) Coachella announced yesterday that Prince will be headlining the festival’s Saturday lineup as the final performer on April 26th. I guess previous “headliner” Portishead just wasn’t driving ticket sales the way Coachella had hoped they would.

Coachella 2008 Prince Poster
I think this is a pretty huge get for the 2008 Coachella music festival, who’s lineup The Blot thought was pretty disappointing when originally announced. Jack Johnson and Roger Waters as the weekend’s headliners just don’t really do anything for me, and I can’t imagine it really excited the music festival's core audience of 18-35 year olds the way they had hoped it would. Prince on the other hand is a huge name who doesn’t tour that often but is still held in high regard by the masses. Here’s hoping he busts out a few classics as he fills the California air with his mix of rock, funk, R&B and jazz.

Prince
I had the pleasure of seeing Prince perform for the first time in 2004 and to this day I still say it was the best concert I’ve ever been to. But, he only played his hits, which he is typically averse to doing, so that might have had something to do with the show’s greatness. Regardless, if you’ve never seen the Prince of Paisley Park in concert I highly recommend doing so, the guy can jam for hours.

The 2008 Coachella Festival Lineup Is Unveiled

CoachellaCoachella, the three-day annual music and arts festival held in Indio, California typically held the last weekend in April or the first weekend in May, has announced the lineup for 2008. This year the music and arts festival takes place April 25-27 and Soundboard, the Los Angeles Times music blog, has the official scoop. Unfortunately, Coachella has decided to follow in the footsteps of fellow music festivals Bonnaroo and the Baltimore Virgin Festival, which both had 70’s/80’s rock band The Police headline last year, by announcing that former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters would be the closing act. Don’t get me wrong, I love Pink Floyd as much as the next guy, but I just don’t think getting Roger Waters to perform Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety is getting the blood pumping of 18-25 year olds around the country like it once did.

Roger WatersAs an aging music fan who has gone to his fair share of music festivals the past two years, I can attest that Waters performing a show that he’s already taken across America over the last year is not getting me out of my house and is definitely not getting my money. I already passed on seeing him the first time around when his latest tour brought him to Houston, so its definitely not getting me to buy a flight out to California. While the rest of the 2008 Coachella lineup is ok, it really just resembles most of the music lineups I’ve seen from other music festivals across the continent.
