One of a Kind Dr Pepper Resin Figure by Tracy Tubera!

Dr Pepper x Complex Magazine One of a Kind Collaboration Series - Dr Pepper Resin Figure by Tracy Tubera

Dr Pepper and Complex Magazine have teamed up on a crazy new promotion entitled the One of a Kind Collaboration Series! For this exciting project Dr Pepper commissioned creators from a number of different industries to create wholly unique new works based on the Dr Pepper brand. These one of a kind pieces include a varsity jacket designed by Crooks and Castles, sunglasses designed by The Dream, and a custom turntable designed by DJ Green Lantern. But the piece that really got The Blot excited was this awesome Dr Pepper resin figure by our friend Tracy Tubera!!!

Tubera is a designer, animator, and “Uber-Illustrator Supreme” who took the iconic Dr Pepper can and turned it into an awesome new character. Now if only we could get Dr Pepper to turn this one of a kind resin figure into a production vinyl figure!!! The picture below shows Tubera’s creative process, from sketch to vector to 3D sculpt. It’s pretty cool to see these behind the scenes photos of what it took to create this figure. It’s also beyond awesome Tracy was included in this project and I really love what he did with this figure. I think it says a lot that a designer toy was included in such an exciting mainstream promotion.

Be A Pepper Too - The Dr Pepper Museum

The Dr Pepper Museum logoThe Blot had a meeting last Friday in Waco, Texas, a city I never thought I’d find myself in and will probably never go to again. Since I was having to drive all that way, I thought I’d look to see if there were any big tourist attractions in Waco I could hit up before heading out of town. What I found was the Dr Pepper Museum.

Old Dr Pepper Bottles On DisplayLike most of you, I couldn’t figure out why Waco, TX had a Dr Pepper Museum. As it turns out Dr Pepper was created in Waco back in 1885, and was even originally called a “Waco.” (link) According to the Dr Pepper Museum’s website, it was “founded in 1988 to educate and entertain the general public through the collection, preservation, interpretation, and exhibition of objects relevant to the history of the soft drink industry.” (link)

The Dr Pepper Museum
Dr Pepper - I'm A Pepper T-ShirtThe coolest part of the museum has to be its building, the Artesian Manufacturing and Bottling Company, which was built in 1906 and is the original bottling plant of Dr Pepper. The museum walks you through the history of Dr Pepper and its 23 flavors, its merger with 7UP and the company’s eventual purchase by Cadbury Schweppes. It really was fascinating to learn about the early creation of a new soft drink back in the late 1800s, but most of all where else can you truly be a Pepper?

If any of you have ever been to the World of Coca-Cola, the Coca-Cola museum in Atlanta, GA, then you’d be a little disappointed in the Dr Pepper Museum. It’s a fraction of the size and does not have anywhere near the technology or sophistication of the World of Coca-Cola, but if you’re in the neighborhood it’s well worth the $6.00 admission fee. Then again how often do you find yourself with some time to kill in Waco, TX?

Do You Know Who This Man Is?

Tay ZondayIf so, I’m sorry…if you don’t know who he is I’m even sorrier for bringing him into your life. I really thought the Tay Zonday internet craze was already done and buried months ago. Of all the people to have gained their 15 minutes of internet fame by making horrible music, Tay’s song “Chocolate Rain” may be the worst/funniest. After recording one of the weirdest songs since William Hung released his album of covers, Tay and his YouTube site (link) has spread like wildfire through the internet by email and by bloggers. The worst part is just when I thought it was over, he’s back and worse than ever. You see this little delicious soft drink that was created in Texas, Dr. Pepper, just couldn’t leave well enough alone.

Evidently Dr. Pepper has decided the best way to promote their newest product, a Diet Cherry Chocolate Dr. Pepper, is to tie it in to Tay’s song “Chocolate Rain” and make a commercial with him! Did I miss something? Seems like a no brainer to me not to do this. In some ways it serves Dr. Pepper right. After buying a twelve pack of their Diet Berries & Crème Dr. Pepper I’m a little hesitant to try any of their new Diet Dr. Pepper flavors. And most likely a Cherry Chocolate Dr. Pepper concoction is probably disgusting.

Needless to say this video has to be seen to believe. It’s already spreading through the blogosphere like crazy and really should be watched at least once. My favorite part is the rap interlude by Mista Johnson (yeah, I’ve never heard of him either but you can check him out Here).

If you’re interested, here’s the original recording of Chocolate Rain. That is if you feel like subjecting yourself to it. I’d recommend watching at least the first 15 seconds of it…after that it just repeats over and over and over again.

Tay Zonday’s website can be found at www.tayzonday.com, it’s pretty incomplete with most of the sections saying “Coming Soon” but could actually be updated one day.
