Masters of the Universe Trap Jaw 1/6 Scale Deluxe Timed Edition Collectible Figure by Mondo

Masters of the Universe Trap Jaw 1/6 Scale Deluxe Timed Edition Collectible Figure by Mondo

Mondo continues its hugely popular Masters of the Universe 1/6 scale collectible figure with the psychotic interdimensional cyborg, Trap Jaw! As Mondo explained, “Updating Trap Jaw’s design was the goal, but most importantly we had to honor what had come before... keeping the familiar in place, but also elevating the design to the next level and imagining what he would look like in the real world.”

Masters of the Universe Trap Jaw 1/6 Scale Deluxe Timed Edition Collectible Figure by Mondo

Mondo teamed up with artist Florian Bertmer to design this reimagining, and Bertmer definitely went all out in his unique art style. One really cool addition to this figure is an actual working arm piston! Trap Jaw also comes with all the weapons you’d expect, including the fly swatter! All the weapons attach to his giant belt and one can be attached to the back of his chest harness.

Plus, the figure pays homage to his 200x Kronis backstory with parts specific to that era of MOTU! As the story goes, Kronis was Trap Jaw’s original name (he was one of Keldor’s henchmen). Keldor transformed into Skeletor and became more and more unstable by the day. Kronis grew tired of this and decided to leave Skeletor’s group and form his own army.

Naturally, Skeletor did not take too kindly to this. The two battled, and as a result, Skeletor punched Kronis so hard that it destroyed his jaw and arm. Seeing more use out of Kronis, Skeletor informed Tri-Klops to transform him, turning Kronis into the insane Trap Jaw! The Kronis accessories are fully swappable. You can swap out Trap Jaw’s head and mechanical arm and replace it with the Kronis head and arm – giving you two figures in one.

This unbelievable Trap Jaw 12” action figure will be available as a 48 hour timed edition, available now through Thursday, March 9th, at 11:59am CT, at MondoShop.com for $235 with free shipping to the United States and select European countries.

The Return of the Living Dead Screen Print by Florian Bertmer x Mondo

The Return of the Living Dead Screen Print by Florian Bertmer x Mondo

The Blot was so bummed I missed out on Mondo’s release yesterday of this epic new movie poster for The Return of the Living Dead by artist Florian Bertmer! I love the punk rock vibe Florian gave to his movie poster with its old school flyer look, and Bertmer killed it with his take on the film’s iconic Tarman (originally designed by artist William Stout).

“The Return of the Living Dead is arguably one of the best films about the living dead that exists. Director Dan O’Bannon gave us a full-on punks meet (and fight / get eaten by) zombies party film ... that is also low key responsible for adding the undead’s unending desire for brains to zombie lore.” – Mondo

The Return of the Living Dead by Florian Bertmer is a 24”x36” hand numbered screen print.  The Regular Edition is limited to 175 pieces and retailed for $50, while the Devilock Variant is limited to 100 pieces and retailed $75. Both went on sale at 11am CT on Tuesday, October 26th, at MondoShop.com via The Drop.  For those of us who missed out on this release yesterday, a third colorway – the Nothing Left Inside Variant – will go on sale next month at Mondo’s DesignerCon booth.

Ren & Stimpy “Fake Dad” Screen Print by Florian Bertmer x Mondo

Ren & Stimpy “Fake Dad” Screen Print by Florian Bertmer x Mondo

For the final release of Mondo’s Nick Week – a week long celebration of Nickelodeon’s beloved original animated television series from the ‘90s known as Nicktoons – they’ve teamed up with the amazing Florian Bertmer to release a new Ren & Stimpy screen print!!! Following up on his first poster for the Nickelodeon series, “Svën Höek”, Bertmer has again stepped up and delivered the goods on a poster for the Ren & Stimpy episode “Fake Dad”.

In the episode “Fake Dad”, Ren and Stimpy become adoptive parents to a seven year old Lummox named Kowalski. As Mondo explained, “Florian’s style is a perfect compliment to the iconic animated style of the show and we couldn’t be happier to have him return to the series.” Bertmer added, “I don’t think any other post-war era cartoon has come close to Ren & Stimpy in terms of amazing animation and utter weirdness to this day. Even by today's standards, the insanity that made it past censorship and onto the screen is just mind-boggling; it makes most other shows seem rather tame.”

“Fake Dad” by Florian Bertmer is a 24”x18” hand numbered Ren & Stimpy screen print. Limited to 175 pieces, this officially licensed poster will go on sale at 12pm CST today, Friday, March 2nd, at the Mondo online store for $45.

MondoCon is Back and Bigger Than Ever! MondoCon 2 Convention Report

Mike Mitchell

The Blot had the privilege to cover MondoCon 2, the world’s preeminent art and print convention, last weekend in Austin, Texas. The Blot’s been covering Mondo and their releases for years now, but it’s hard to understand the brand’s popularity until you’ve attended MondoCon. Yes most of their releases sell out within seconds, but seeing collectors camp out for days just so they can get first shot at a super limited edition release really drives home the fact that Mondo and its acclaimed stable of artists have become an integral part of these fans’ lives.

Mike Mitchell

Everyone I spoke with throughout the two days of MondoCon were truly passionate about art and prints. They spoke for hours in line each day about gallery shows, movies and art styles. It’s really amazing to see collectors from all walks of life and who have traveled from all around the globe be united in their love of pop culture and design. Although the convention itself would be considered small by today’s standards of comic cons, MondoCon makes up for it with content.

The Vacvvm

For two days straight Mondo hosted a variety of panels on everything from movie soundtracks, toys and collectibles, to artist spotlights and Mondo prints that could have been. They even hosted six different screenings, which spotlighted the variety of different properties Mondo works with. There was definitely a little something for everyone at MondoCon 2015. One of The Blot’s favorite events was visiting the Adventures in Design Podcast room to see AiD tape live shows for two days straight with MondoCon’s featured guests. If you love screen prints and gig posters then you definitely should be listening to the Adventures in Design podcast.

Daniel Danger

What’s really great about this event is that Mondo listens to its fans. It was my understanding that attendees had some constructive criticism for Mondo’s first ever convention last year. The Austin based company definitely took that feedback to heart and it shows! In just its second year, the show has clearly grown for the better as it branched out into a second venue. All attendees could say is how much better and well organized MondoCon 2 was over the year before. With Mondo’s dedicated staff working to continue to make MC better, the sky truly is the limit!

Daniel Danger

The real reason to attend MondoCon, at least for The Blot, is to meet all of the amazing artists in attendance – many of whom have traveled long distances to be there – and all of the fantastic art they brought with them. Unless you live in LA or NYC, MondoCon is one of the few places you can go to meet all of your favorite artists. Each had their own booth (or shared a booth) and many brought rare old prints, originals, sketches and t-shirts for fans to drool over and buy. While I didn’t personally buy much, I spent hours walking the convention floor talking to artists and looking through their art. It was such a treat to see so many pieces in person that I’ve only ever seen on a computer screen. If you plan to travel for one convention next year The Blot highly recommends MondoCon!

Jason Edmiston

Below are my personal photos from MondoCon. I did my best to take pictures of everyone booth at the convention. Sadly, my photos don’t do all of the amazing artwork on display justice. If you see something you like though, be sure to visit the artist’s personal website and buy some art directly from them!!!
