Commemorative City ‘Bot Series Vinyl Figures by Kidrobot

Commemorative City ‘Bot Series Vinyl Figures by Kidrobot - Boulder, San Francisco, Los Angeles & New York

After some unexpected delays due to issues at the port, Kidrobot’s new Commemorative City ‘Bot Series is finally here! This new line of four 3” Kidrobot Mascot vinyl figures commemorates the great cities of New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Boulder. All four of these cities have at one time hosted Kidrobot retail locations. The Blot is surprised there’s no Las Vegas ‘Bot, since it hosts one of the two remaining KR retail locations. Designed by Tristan Eaton, all four Commemorative City ‘Bot Series vinyl figures are currently available now at all Kidrobot retail locations, Kidrobot.com and specialty toy stores around the world for $14.99 each.

“Floral Pleasure ‘Bot” Kidrobot Mascot Vinyl Figure by Tristan Eaton

“Floral Pleasure ‘Bot” Kidrobot Mascot 7 Inch Vinyl Figure by Tristan Eaton

Stripped down and streamlined, the Floral Pleasure ‘Bot is a real beauty. For this release, Kidrobot asked Tristan Eaton, the foundational Kidrobot designer, to embellish the Kidrobot mascot platform with his golden illustrative touch. Featuring an elegant, intricate and daring design, the Floral Pleasure Kidrobot is a homage to beautiful bodies. The Blot’s loving this design, but I am a little bummed to see another release featuring the super simplistic DIY version of the ‘Bot platform.

The Floral Pleasure Kidrobot Mascot Vinyl Figure stands 7” tall and is available now at Entertainment Earth for $44.99 each here.

Jermaine Rogers x Kidrobot T-Shirt Collection

Jermaine Rogers x Kidrobot T-Shirt Collection

Along with the awesome My Brother Was A Hero vinyl figure, Kidrobot has also released a new apparel collection featuring the dynamic and dramatic imagery of Jermaine Rogers! Kidrobot is not messing around with the Jermaine Rogers designed releases this summer, and The Blot is loving the results! The Jermaine Rogers x Kidrobot Collection is seriously huge. It includes four t-shirts, a crewneck, a tank top, two hats and even a button down dress shirt all sporting Jermaine’s signature style. Hands down my favorite piece is the “Dero Bot” t-shirt, which is a mash-up of Jermaine’s Dero character with Kidrobot’s mascot ‘Bot. What I wouldn’t kill for a vinyl figure of the Dero Bot! Someone make this happen.

Jermaine Rogers x Kidrobot T-Shirt Collection

The t-shirts in the Jermaine Rogers x Kidrobot T-Shirt Collection are available now at all Kidrobot locations, Kidrobot.com and specialty stores worldwide in sizes S-XXL for $30-35 each. The JRxKR hats retail for between $30-32, the crewneck retails for $65, while the “Live Suspiciously” button down dress shirt retails for $70. Look sharp and trust no one!

Kidrobot x Threadless T-Shirt “KR 00” by Matheus Lopes

Kidrobot x Threadless T-Shirt “KR 00” by Matheus Lopes

The winner of last summer’s Threadless x Kidrobot T-Shirt Design Challenge has been announced, and it’s Matheus Lopes for his “KR 00” design! It’s a cool design of the Kidrobot mascot ‘Bot deconstructed, but The Blot feels like I’ve seen this before. I didn’t really follow the KR x Threadless Design Challenge, so I can’t say if there were other designs I think should have been produced instead. But I definitely would have loved to see a full Kidrobot x Threadless T-Shirt Collection.

The Kidrobot x Threadless T-Shirt “KR 00” is currently available for purchase at Threadless.com in mens, womens, toddlers, and kids sizes for $24.50.

McBess x Kidrobot T-Shirt Collection

McBess Apparel Capsule by Kidrobot - “Kidrobot Mascot”, “Les Viandardes” & “Rock and Roll” T-Shirts

Kidrobot has teamed up with artist French artist McBess (Mathieu Bessudo) to release a pretty awesome McBess Apparel Capsule, which includes t-shirts, jackets, a button down long sleeve shirt and snapback hats. From the Pirate Bomber to the statement rock and roll tees, each piece is pure McBess! Of course The Blot is especially jazzed over the three McBess tees, including the killer ‘Bot tee in McBess’ signature style and the Les Viandardes tee featuring his murderous femme fatales.

The McBess x Kidrobot Apparel Capsule merges the sick vintage cartoon styling of internationally renowned illustrator McBess into a limited batch of deluxe ring spun super soft tees, premium quality cut and sew shirts and jackets, and New Era hats that bring McBess’ dark and dreamy surrealist world to life. The three McBess t-shirts seen here ($30) and so much more are available through the Kidrobot online store now!

Threadless x Kidrobot T-Shirt Design Challenge

Kidrobot x Threadless T-Shirt Design Contest

As you all know The Blot’s been a huge fan of Threadless’ community designed t-shirts for years. Lately they’ve been teaming up with some of my favorite properties for some great design challenges, which have resulted in epic t-shirt collections featuring Disney Villains, Toy Story, Spider-Man, Iron Man and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to name just a few! Last week Threadless announced their newest design challenge, and it’s with Kidrobot! How cool is that!?!?

For all the designer toy artists and fans out there, here’s your chance to finally have your very own Kidrobot t-shirt produced! For this challenge Kidrobot and Threadless are seeking artists from around the world to participate in a new t-shirt design challenge. Artists are being asked to submit t-shirt designs incorporating Kidrobot’s popular mascot ‘Bot, the mohawked robot that is the canvas for so many of Kidrobot’s designer toys.

Submissions will be accepted for the first three weeks of the challenge, which closes August 7, 2013. The last week of the challenge is designated for scoring submissions, though scoring designs can be done throughout the entirety of the challenge. Once scoring ends on August 12th and the winning design has been decided, the chosen artist will be awarded $2,500 cash, $250 gift certificates from both Threadless and Kidrobot, as well as a Kidrobot Mega Munny vinyl toy.

Major Lazer Kidrobot Mascot Vinyl Figure

Major Lazer Kidrobot Mascot Vinyl Figure

Guns don’t kill people… lazers do. Picture it, America 1984…the Olympic Games are held in LA, President Reagan runs for re-election, the AIDS epidemic runs rampant, and underneath it all, the secret Zombie War rages. One secret soldier is rescued from the fray, his arm gone, but his spirit strong. He is given an experimental lazer prosthetic and hired by the CIA to continue his fight against the forces of evil as Major Lazer! He fronts as a dancehall nightclub owner from Trinidad, though in truth, he is a badass Jamaican keeping the world safe from vampires and monsters, while partying hard and tweeting.

Major Lazer Kidrobot Mascot Vinyl Figure

The Major Lazer Kidrobot Mascot is a 7” vinyl homage to the renegade soldier turned CIA operative, which also happens to be a music collaborative project by the Grammy nominated producer Diplo and DJ Switch. The musical act Major Lazer debuted in 2009 with their album Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do, and followed that up with Lazers Never Die in 2010. A new album, titled Free the Universe, featuring Diplo as the solo executive producer, is out February 2013. The Blot is actually a huge Major Lazer fan and I got to see these two talented DJs perform last summer. It was a sick show, and I highly recommend seeing them live if you ever get the chance.

Honestly, my jaw hit the ground when Kidrobot announced this figure a few days ago. I thought they had given up on collaborations with musical acts after their last few hip-hop inspired releases kinda bombed. What’s also surprising about this figure is it’s actually the second Major Lazer inspired release, the first being a cool all green Sofubi figure. At least the two figures are very different! The Major Lazer Kidrobot Mascot has a uniquely sculpted head and lazer arm to properly capture his eighties commando style and signature prosthetic. Collectors can pick one up starting Tuesday, February 19th, at Kidrobot stores, kidrobot.com, and select retailers worldwide for $50 each.

KidHoHoHo Mini Bot by Kidrobot

KidHoHoHo Mini Bot and Black Variant Chase Colorway by Kidrobot

KidHoHoHo makes the holidays fun and awkward free, unlike obligatory office parties and adults dressed as elves at the mall. Sculpted in vinyl with rivets mimicking tin construction, the 3” KidHoHoHo Mini Bot by Kidrobot sports the quintessential holiday red suit, complete with white beard, and mohawk under his red and white vinyl hat.

KidHoHoHo Mini Bot and Packaging by Kidrobot

Boxed with a non-removable vinyl key (an ode to his wind-up tin brothers of yore), KR’s new KidHoHoHo Mini Bot looks pretty awesome! This is one of the few Mini Bots The Blot wishes Kidrobot had made a full sized 6” Robot.

Sold blind box style, 1 in 10 KidHoHoHos are an all black chase colorway for those more naughty than nice. Get your holiday on beginning November 15th at Kidrobot stores and kidrobot.com where you can purchase these figures for $11.95 each.

Fear the Reaper Mini Bot by Kidrobot

Fear the Reaper Mini Bot by Kidrobot

Halloween may have come and gone, but the Reaper is forever! The Blot’s a little late on this one, but Kidrobot’s newest holiday Mini Bot is just too cool to ignore. Don’t Fear the Reaper Mini Bot is a 3” glow-in-the-dark grinning goblin. Dressed in black from head to toe, he waits outside your house with a bloody sickle and toilet paper roll in-hand, ready to leave his sinister mark. It’s best to just give him candy immediately.

Fear the Reaper Mini Bot by Kidrobot

So wickedly good, Kidrobot decided to keep him in short supply…only 1,000 of the Don’t Fear the Reaper Mini Bot were created and they went on sale October 11th exclusively at Kidrobot stores and kidrobot.com for $14.95.

Kidrobot X: 10th Anniversary Mini ‘Bot

Kidrobot X: 10th Anniversary Mini ‘Bot

Of all the Kidrobot X releases in honor of Kidrobot’s 10th Anniversary, this is the figure that’s got my scratching my head. The Blot just doesn’t see how it fits in. I would rather have seen a 7” full sized ‘Bot featuring Tristan Eaton’s design than this 10th Anniversary Mini ‘Bot that’s dressed to accept an award rather than celebrate the company’s birthday. And the Mister Universe sash is for what again!?! Although, I am happy to see how popular KR’s Mini ‘Bots have become and how dedicated Kidrobot is to continuing the line. It feels like these Mini ‘Bots are poised to replace their 7” counterparts completely.

The Kidrobot X Mini ‘Bot is the VIP of the Kidrobot anniversary event "Kidrobot X: 10 Years of Art + Design", all suped up in black tie garb (complete with his name printed on his back), black and white kicks, and a “Mister Universe” sash to let the world know: he did it! This 3” figure is scheduled to retail for $14.95 each, and goes on sale October 12th at all Kidrobot stores, Kidrobot.com, and select retailers worldwide.

Kidrobot X: 10th Anniversary Mini ‘Bot by Tristan Eaton

Kidrobot X: 10th Anniversary Mini ‘Bot by Tristan Eaton

The Blot was so happy to find out Tristan Eaton’s 10th Anniversary Mini Bot was not a STGCC exclusive after all (as was previously speculated here)! Personally I love this figure’s simple black and gold design rocking one of Tristan’s Kidrobot X logos on its front and Tristan’s logo on its back. Produced to commemorate 10 years of Kidrobot, KR is seriously pulling out all the stops in this month long celebration in conjunction with their retrospective event Kidrobot X: 10 Years of Art + Design.

Tristan Easton’s 10th Anniversary Edition Mini ‘Bot features Kidrobot X’ signature color scheme (black with metallic gold details) and will retail for $14.95 beginning Friday, October 12th, at all Kidrobot retail locations and Kidrobot.com.

Kidrobot X: 10 Years of Art + Design

Kidrobot X: 10 Years of Art + Design

It’s hard to believe this October Kidrobot turns 10 years old! That’s pretty ancient in the world of designer art toys. To celebrate this impressive milestone, Kidrobot has some really exciting releases and events planned for the entire month of October all centered around the theme “Kidrobot X : 10 years of art + design”. In honor of this magical 10 year milestone, KR will be busting out 10 special releases including 2 new Mini ‘Bots, a 20 inch and two 8 inch Dunnys, plus 5 new 10th Anniversary t-shirts designed by Paul Budnitz, Tristan Eaton and Frank Kozik.

Kidrobot will also be hosting a Kidrobot X Anniversary Party and 10 day art toy retrospective on the 2nd floor of Kidrobot New York, from Friday, October 12th, through Monday, October 22nd. This event will open during NYCC and highlight some of the most iconic art toys Kidrobot has produced these past ten years, as well as feature custom 20 inch & 8 inch Dunnys by some of your favorite designers. The Blot would love to get up to NYC for the KR X show, although I’m not 100% sure it’s in the cards. Regardless, be sure to check back in here at TheBlotSays.com as we feature all of Kidrobot’s 10th Anniversary releases throughout the day!

Kidrobot 10th Anniversary Mini 'Bot by Tristan Eaton

Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention Exclusive Kidrobot 10th Anniversary Mini 'Bot Vinyl Figure by Tristan Eaton

This weekend is the 2012 Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention, and according to its website Tristan Eaton will be releasing a STGCC Exclusive Kidrobot 10th Anniversary Mini Bot there! Thanks to Vinyl Pulse, we have the awesome pictures above, and man does this vinyl figure look slick! This beautiful black and gold 3” ‘Bot features a “10” on its chest (for KR’s 10th Anniversary) and Tristan’s autograph on its back. I’m really hoping this is not a STGCC exclusive as advertised, because I know a ton of diehard Kidrobot fans who are already itching to get their hands on this 10th Anniversary figure.

The Kidrobot 10th Anniversary Mini ‘Bot by Tristan Eaton has a limited edition run size of just 300 pieces and can be purchased this weekend at Tris’ STGCC booth E15.

Faster, Higher, Stronger Edition Mini ‘Bot by Kidrobot

Faster, Higher, Stronger Edition Mini ‘Bot by Kidrobot

Last weekend the Games of the XXX Olympiad (aka the 2012 Summer Olympic Games) kicked off in London and to commemorate the world’s largest sporting event Kidrobot has released an extra special Mini ‘Bot. The Faster, Higher, Stronger Edition Mini ‘Bot is an ideal specimen of 3 inch vinyl. Ready to run any race, overcome any obstacle, and of course win it all, this Mini ‘Bot even brought his own gold medal! Dressed to perform, with the year of glory printed on his back, this Summer Olympics inspired Mini ‘Bot has a dumbbell to keep his muscles pumped and juice to keep them hydrated.

Faster, Higher, Stronger Edition Mini ‘Bot by Kidrobot

The Faster, Higher, Stronger Edition Mini ‘Bot by Kidrobot has a limited edition run size of 2012 pieces, and went on sale Friday, July 27th, at Kidrobot stores, kidrobot.com, and select retailers for $14.95 each.

Kidrobot City ‘Bots Minis Figures by MAD

Kidrobot City 'Bots 3 Inch Mini Vinyl Figures - New York, San Francisco, London, Miami & Los Angeles

Kidrobot is lucky to call some stellar cities home, and after 10 years of loving urban living Kidrobot decided it was time to pay homage to these five great cities in the only way it knows how: vinyl. Based off of designs originally created by MAD for a line of city specific store exclusive t-shirts, Kidrobot is now releasing these City ‘Bots as 3” store exclusive mini figures.

Kidrobot City 'Bots 3 Inch Mini Vinyl Figures - San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, New York & London

Each 3 inch vinyl figure highlights the city where it is exclusively sold by showcasing the characteristics that the city and its citizens are famous for. Five Kidrobot retail stores have their own special ‘Bot: San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Miami and London. KidNeutron & KidRoyale Kidrobot Mascot Vinyl Figures

KidRoyale Kidrobot Mascot Vinyl Figure

Wow, The Blot can’t help but feel partially to blame for these two abysmal new Kidrobot mascot vinyl figure releases. I’ve been complaining as much as anyone the past few years about the price of Kidrobot’s figures as their quality continues to decline. That isn’t to say there haven’t been some amazing designs released; I just can’t stand how sloppy the production has been. So finally Kidrobot listened to its fans’ complaints and is releasing two reasonably priced 8” figures…and yet where are the designs!?!

KidNeutron Kidrobot Mascot Vinyl Figure

I should have known these figures were going to be underwhelming when I heard there was no artist attached with the release. And surprisingly, these two don’t seem to be numbered as part of the Kidrobot Mascot series or have a run sized announced. So what does that say? Does it mean these are open edition figures meant for Urban Outfitters and other large chain retailers? Maybe, but I really hope not. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case…you know it’s only a matter of time before they start releasing 8” “limited edition” figures at Urban Outfitters.

KidNeutron & KidRoyale Kidrobot Mascot Vinyl Figures

It’s sad because Kidrobot is supposed to be the torchbearer in this industry and I honestly hold them to a higher standard.  But this seems to be a step in the wrong direction, especially when you consider how far its Mascot line has come. While I would have no problem with these if they were some of the first Mascots released back in 2004, but even those put these to shame! Can these even been considered designer art toys anymore? There are so many talented creators out there who would do incredible work with this platform, but instead Kidrobot decides to release this? I just don’t get it. To say The Blot is disappointed would be a huge understatement. And this after 5 extremely solid Kidrobot Mascot figures over the past 2 years. I would seriously love the opportunity to manage this line for KR because they are just wasting a perfectly good toy right now.

KidNeutron is boldly going where some ‘bots have gone before..the black, white and cyan Kidrobot steps out of his space pants and into your collection. Sleek and graphic with ray gun in hand, this KidNeutron is out to make permanent mischief. KidRoyale is mischievous in black with fresh cyan kicks and trusty graff accessory in tow. This ‘bot reps a dark getup to creep through your neighborhood and tag undetected. Both KidNeutron and KidRoyale Kidrobot Mascot Vinyl Figures go on sale Thursday, February 23rd at Kidrobot stores, Kidrobot.com and select retailers worldwide for just $29.95 each.
