“Challenge of the Superfriends” DC Comics Screen Print by Dave Perillo x Grey Matter Art

“Challenge of the Superfriends” DC Comics Screen Print by Dave Perillo x Grey Matter Art

Oh man, The Blot was super pumped to learn Grey Matter Art would be releasing an officially licensed screen print for one of my all time favorite cartoons, Challenge of the Superfriends, by artist Dave Perillo!  This sequel to the iconic DC Comics cartoon Super Friends pits the ‘70s and ‘80s animated version of the Justice League against the evil Legion of Doom.  As GMA explained, “Dave is able to feature all of our favorite characters into this poster making it an ultimate who’s who of DC Superfriends and it also serves quite well as a companion piece to the Justice League Unlimited poster we did earlier this year!”

Challenge of the Superfriends by Dave Perillo is an 18”x24” hand numbered DC Comics screen print.  The Regular Edition is limited to 100 pieces and will retail for $40, while the Foil Variant is limited to 65 pieces and will retail for $55.  Both Justice League posters will go on sale at 1pm ET on Thursday, December 17th, at GreyMatterArt.com.

The New Batman Adventures & Superman: The Animated Series Screen Prints by Scott Derby x Bottleneck Gallery

While The Blot was out traveling for work last week, Bottleneck Gallery released two fantastic DC Comics animated screen prints by Scott Derby! The two posters are based on the classic ‘90s television cartoons The New Batman Adventures and Superman: The Animated Series. These are Derby’s first print releases with BNG and he absolutely killed it. Bottleneck Gallery explained that “Scott’s prints perfectly capture the aesthetics of both shows, and feature so many classic heroes and villains!” The Blot is especially impressed how he was able to include all these characters from these two iconic shows without making the posters feel crowded.

“The New Batman Adventures” and “Superman: The Animated Series” by Scott Derby are 12”x36” hand numbered DC Comics screen prints. Each print is limited to just 100 pieces and retailed for $40.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice “Lex Luthor is our Savior” T-Shirts

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice “Lex Luthor is our Savior” T-Shirt

It seems like everyone is talking about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice this weekend. Some of it good and some of it bad. If you’re a fan of the film and you liked Jesse Eisenberg’s portrayal of Lex Luthor, then you’ll really like these new Lex Luthor themed Batman v Superman t-shirts! Both are pretty cool designs, even though neither really comes directly from events in the film. They’re more like figments of Lex’s imagination.

Batman v Superman First Look: Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor

Yesterday, Entertainment Weekly released the world’s first look at Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor from the upcoming live action film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice! The Blot was more than skeptical about Eisenberg as Luthor, but man does he look great here! Now I can almost believe that the star of Adventureland and Zombieland could be the most dangerous man in the DC Comics Cinematic Universe. Can’t wait to see more!

Super Powers Screen Print by Tom Whalen

Sideshow Collectibles x Mondo Super Powers Screen Print by Tom Whalen

The Blot was in shock when I found out about this amazing screen print yesterday. I could not believe it took this long for me to find out about a freaking DC Comics Super Powers print! Kenner’s Super Powers Collection is my all time favorite toy line and it has now been immortalized as a killer print by the talented Tom Whalen. Evidently this print was originally released at Sideshow Collectibles’ San Diego Comic-Con 2011 party to coincide with their recently revealed DC license.

As a fellow lifelong comic book collector, Whalen took great care in making this print true to the classic 1980’s toy line and it shows. He even made to sure to include all 35 heroes and villains from the Super Powers Collection, including the two mail-away figures (The Riddler and Clark Kent). Seeing so many of my favorite DC Universe characters produced in Whalen’s signature style is a real treat! While I’m not the biggest Firestorm fan, his design really shines in Whalen’s two-tone aesthetic.

"Super Powers" by Tom Whalen is a 36”x24” 6 color screen print and was produced by Mondo. It has a limited edition run size of 250 pieces and can be purchased from the Sideshow Collectibles online store for $99.99 each.

DC Universe Classics Wave 17 Blackest Night Action Figures

DC Universe Classics Wave 17 Blackest Night Action Figures - White Lantern Hal Jordan & Black Lantern Hal Jordan Variant

The Blot can’t lie, I was more than a little surprised to learn that Mattel would be releasing a DCUC wave of Blackest Night action figures after DC Direct already did such an amazing job with them. Then again, it looks like Mattel is doing everything it can to cash in on the upcoming Green Lantern craze. According to Mattel, Wave 17 is just its “first step” into DC Comics' Blackest Night, so I assume we’ll be seeing at least one more Blackest Night wave before everything is said and done.

DC Universe Classics Wave 17 Blackest Night Action Figures - Blue Lantern Flash & Star Saphire Wonder Woman

DC Universe Classics Wave 17 consists of White Lantern Hal Jordan, Black Lantern Hal Jordan (as the variant figure), Orange Lantern Lex Luthor, Star Sapphire Wonder Woman, Blue Lantern Flash, Sinestro Corps Scarecrow and Indigo Lantern Atom. The Collect and Connect figure for Wave 17 is the modern version of the Anti-Monitor.

DC Universe Classics Wave 17 Blackest Night Action Figures - Orange Lantern Luthor & Sinestro Corps Scarecrow

DC Universe Classics Wave 17 Blackest Night Action Figures - Indigo Lantern Atom & Collect and Connect Modern Anti-Monitor

DC Universe Classics Wave 17 Blackest Night does not go on sale until June 2011, but you can already pre-order all of the figures above for $16.99 from Entertainment Earth.

Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe - The Villains Part 1

With all of the Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe news hitting the web this month I almost forgot to post the latest character designs for two of the four new villains unveiled last week, Baraka and Lex Luthor. I have never been a huge fan of Luthor’s green and purple armored suit, but I guess it’s a needed addition if the character is expected to perform hand to hand combat against the super powered heroes and villains of the Mortal Kombat and DC Comics universes.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe - Lex Luthor
On the other hand, I think Baraka looks awesome. He is as scary looking as ever and I absolutely love that toothy grin of his. I can’t wait to use those arm blades of his to cut up the opposition.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe - Baraka
Unfortunately, there has still been no sighting of character renderings of either Shao Khan or Darkseid for next month’s video game release. The Blot for one is dying to know if Darkseid will be battling the minions of Outworld in his trademark bluish-grey skirt. More details to come as they become available.

One exciting bit of information I forgot to pass along last week is that Midway has finally announced an official release date for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Fan's can expect to see the game on store shelves and available for purchase throughout North America on November 16th, 2008. So only a few more weeks until the carnage really starts!

The 2007 Forbes Fictional 15

Forbes.comThe Forbes Fictional 15 is back! Thanks to faithful reader Mark for alerting me to its release. The past three years Forbes has complied a list of the richest fictional characters as if they were flesh and blood (they even give a rationale for each character as to how they determined the character’s worth in today’s economic climate).

Daddy WarbucksThe characters that make up the list come from all different kinds of fiction, books, television, comics, movies and once even a real life e-mail campaign. The only complaint I have is that former #1, Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks (from Annie), has not only been unseated as the richest fictional character, but he has fallen completely out of the top 15. It must have been a very good year for the other 15 characters comprising this year’s list.

Scrooge McDuckMaking his first appearance in the number one spot as richest fictional character is none other than Scrooge McDuck. Rounding out the top 5 is Ming the Merciless (from Flash Gordon), Richie Rich, Mom (from Futurama) and Jed Clampett (from The Beverly Hillbillies). You can read about who rounds out the Forbes Fictional 15 list here.

Richie Rich
Lex LuthorI’m actually pretty disappointed in this year’s list in that many of the fictional characters I felt deserved to be on the list in years past were taken off for newer characters without a valid reason for their inclusion. After checking out the rest of the 2007 Forbes Fictional 15 take a look at the 2006 Forbes Fictional 15 and the 2005 Forbes Fictional 15 to compare. I’d love to hear thoughts from all of you on fictional characters that should need to be added to the list and which ones should have never been included on the list in the first place. I for one think Lex Luthor (from Superman) should always be ranked in the top 15…but then again what do I know?
