Lost on the Cover of Entertainment Weekly 2 out of the Last 3 Weeks

As a huge Lost fan, The Blot always enjoys seeing the cast of Lost on a magazine’s cover, especially when that magazine is Entertainment Weekly (the only magazine I actually subscribe to). But I was shocked to see Lost’s Matthew Fox and Emilie de Ravin grace the cover of the preeminent entertainment magazine just two issues after the show’s last cover feature. I love Lost as much as the next guy, but it hasn’t always been the type of ratings juggernaut to garner a magazine’s cover story two out of three weeks.

Entertainment Weekly Issue #1091 - Feb 26, 2010 Lost Cover featuring Matthew Fox and Emile de Ravin
With that being said, Lost has definitely had a resurgence in popularity this year entering its sixth and final season. Ratings are finally on an upswing and the show seems to be a legit pop culture phenomenon touching both diehard fans and casual observers. Which all points to reasons why Entertainment Weekly chose the show to grace its cover twice in three weeks. The only really shocking aspect of Lost’s most recent EW cover is its choice of actors.

Entertainment Weekly Issue #1088 - Feb 5, 2010 Lost Cover featuring Matthew Fox, Terry O’Quinn, Evangeline Lilly, Josh Holloway, Ian Somerhalder & Yunjin Kim
Matthew Fox makes sense, but never in a million years would I have guessed Emilie de Ravin would be the other actor featured in a Lost photo shoot. I’m actually glad they chose Emilie over Evangeline Lilly. It’s a nice change of pace and pays tribute to the importance of de Ravin’s Claire Lost Season 6, a character I missed greatly during disappearance from Season 5.

Entertainment Weekly Issue #1091, which sports a Lost cover featuring Matthew Fox and Emile de Ravin, has a cover date of February 26, 2010 and is on newsstands now. Entertainment Weekly Issue #1088, which features a Lost cover including pictures of Matthew Fox, Terry O’Quinn, Evangeline Lilly, Josh Holloway, Ian Somerhalder and Yunjin Kim, has a cover date of February 5, 2010 and is now probably gone from newsstands.

Lost Tuesdays - Lost: The Complete Collection DVD & Blu-ray Box Set Release Date

The Blot has been anxiously awaiting for any and all information concerning the upcoming Lost: The Complete Collection DVD box set. Thankfully, Amazon.com has come to The Blot’s rescue by announcing the Lost: The Complete Series DVD and Blu-ray box sets will go on sale August 24th, 2010! How great is that!?! I had a feeling these probably wouldn’t go on sale until Christmas 2010, so this is a whole 4 months earlier than expected.

Lost The Complete Collection DVD and Blu-ray Box Set Cover Artwork
As of now, all we know is the Lost: The Complete Collection box set will include 38 disks and have a run time of 5,074 minutes. I can’t wait to see what kind of crazy extras Lindelof and Cuse cram into this one. I might even finally upgrade to Blu-ray so I can watch my favorite Losties in HD.

You can currently pre-order both versions of the Lost: The Complete Collection box sets at Amazon.com. Lost: The Complete Collection DVD box set retails for $229.99, but is on sale at Amazon.com for $148.99 here. Lost: The Complete Collection Blu-ray box set retails for $279.99, but it too is on sale at Amazon.com for $195.99 here.

The Blot knows Lost fans worldwide have been dying to know when the show’s series finale would air on ABC. Let the Lost Season 6 season finale and series finale party planning commence!

Lost Wednesdays - Season 5 Finale Set For May 13th

The Blot knows it’s not Wednesday, but I didn’t get a chance to post this tidbit of Lost news yesterday. I guess I could have called today’s Lost post “Lost Thursdays,” but then that might be confusing on the grand scheme of things…but I digress. News came out yesterday that Lost’s fifth season finale will be a two-hour episode that is set to air on Wednesday, May 13th. (link)

Destiny Calls - Lost Season 5 Television Poster
This is big news because it means “ABC has opted not to send Lost’s season-ender on a suicide mission against the American Idol finale on May 20.” (link) I don’t view this so much as waiving the white flag as a way for ABC to artificially boost Lost’s final ratings for the season. Plus, this way Lost doesn’t have to share the media spotlight with FOX’s ratings juggernaut American Idol. Either way you look at it, this is a great move for Lost and its fans.

Lost Wednesdays - Duff Goldman and Charm City Cakes Invade The Island

Jorge Garcia (Lost’s Hurly) revealed on his blog Dispatches from the Island that Duff Goldman and the Charm City Cakes crew were in Hawaii recently to make an amazing cake in honor of Lost’s 100th episode. (link) The cake, seen below, will be featured in an upcoming episode of Ace of Cakes on the Food Network.

Lost & Ace of Cakes - A Lost Themed Cake in Honor of Lost's 100th Episode Created by Charm City Cakes
The Blot has been a huge fan of Ace of Cakes for years, and needless to say I can’t wait for this episode to air in May! It looks like Charm City Cakes' team of cake designers went all out on this one because the details on this Lost themed cake are amazing! To see more photos of the Charm City Cakes designed Lost cake celebrating the show’s 100th episode click here.

Lost Wednesdays - Rose and Bernard

Since we’re just a few hours away from the season premiere of Lost’s fifth season I’ll limit this week’s installment of Lost Wednesdays to one topic.

Last week USAToday had a great article about the return of Lost (you can find the article here). While the article itself is just a cursory overview of the history of the show and doesn’t really give any in-depth information or spoilers for the upcoming season, the photo attached to the article answered one of The Blot’s lingering questions from last year’s season finale, what happened to Rose (L. Scott Caldwell) and Bernard (Sam Anderson)? *A very minor spoiler follows*

Lost Season 4 Cast Photo
As you may or may not remember, the last time we had seen this entertaining couple Rose had changed her mind and given in to Bernard’s wish to leave the island. The question I needed answered was did they ever get on Daniel Faraday’s boat to go to the freighter, and if so were they on the freighter when it exploded? If not then they should still be on the island and have been transported to god knows where. Well, The Blot’s questions have now been answered by the photo below from an upcoming scene in Lost’s fifth season. As you can see Rose and Bernard apparently never made it to the freighter and are still alive, stranded on the island.

Lost Season 5 - Elizabeth Mitchell, Ken Leung, Josh Holloway, L. Scott Caldwell and Sam Anderson
While being stranded on a mysterious island is not normally good news, it’s great news for The Blot’s favorite secondary Lost characters because it mean's they're still alive! While Rose and Bernard often go episodes without being seen, when they do show up you know it's for a big, memorable scene. Here’s hoping the still lost Rose and Bernard get the happy ending they so richly deserve as the show wraps up over the next two seasons.

Lost Wednesdays - Season 5 Premiere Sneak Peek Promo Video

As we inch closer to Lost’s season premiere on Wednesday, January 21st, The Blot has been trying really hard not to find out too much information on the upcoming season. I want everything to be a complete surprise, at least when it comes to the two hour season premiere. With that being said, there was one thing to be learned from the latest Lost sneak peek provided by ABC…Jack will indeed shave off his scraggily looking beard in one of the show’s first two episodes! It’s not much of a spoiler, but it is good news. I don’t know how long I could have watched Jack mope around about the island with that horrible looking beard on his face. To find out more, feel free to watch the newest Lost Season 5 sneak peek promo video from ABC below:

Lost Wednesdays - Official Lost Season 5 Cast Photo

The Blot’s been searching the web for weeks for this season’s official cast photo. I finally found out yesterday why I couldn’t find it, ABC hadn't released it yet! Anyway, here is the Lost Season 5 official cast photo and there is at least one major spoiler hidden in it, and no it’s not that Jeff Fahey’s Frank Lapidus is missing from the photo. Lapidus is still only a reoccurring character and not an official member of the cast. It’s also not the absense of Daniel Dae Kim’s Jin Kwon. While his character Jin was “killed” in the Season 4 finale, I don’t think there is a chance he’s gone for good. But, they couldn’t ruin that potential surprise in the official cast photo. I’ll discuss the spoiler that I have withheld from mentioning on The Blot Says… for months after the photo.

Official Lost Season 5 Cast Photo
The most shocking Lost news from the past 6 months has to be that Emilie de Ravin’s contract has been put on hold and she will not be appearing in Season 5. (link) Have no fear though, she has not left the show entirely. According to both de Ravin and Lost executives, her character Claire Littleton will be back for the show’s sixth and final season in 2010. Evidently Claire’s storyline has ended for the foreseeable future, which is really a shock considering how many questions we all still have about her connection to both Jacob and the deceased yet walking around Christian Shephard. Rumor has it she is now a member of the walking dead, but I’m not sure I buy that. If that is true, who killed her that day in the jungle and why!?!

Lost Wednesdays - New Season 5 Sneak Peek and Casting News

Before The Blot gets to the sneak peek, ABC evidently just released some interesting information in the form of a Lost press release. It could be a potential spoiler, so be aware before reading on. In the ABC press release it was announced that both Jeremy Davies and Ken Leung have been promoted to main cast status. On the surface this is really exciting news because it means we’ll be getting a lot more of everyone’s favorite former freighter passengers Daniel Faraday and Miles Straume.

Destiny Calls - Lost Season 5 Television Poster
Rebecca Mader as Charlotte LewisBut this news does beg the question, what is in store for the third freighter passenger who was also stranded on the island, Rebecca Mader’s Charlotte Staples Lewis!?! It might just mean Mader had a preexisting commitment or that Charlotte won’t be featured as heavily in the upcoming season…or it could mean something totally different altogether. Only time will tell I guess, but now she is the only non-main cast member featured in the Lost Season 5 promotional poster. So something hast to be up, right? What I don’t get is why Lost is passing up on adding another strong female to the show’s cast. Is it me or is this show totally dominated by the males in its cast?

And now to the sneak peek. Here is a really interesting clip featuring Kate and Aaron from Lost’s upcoming Season 5 premiere episode. ABC will be releasing a series of these short promo clips from the season premiere from now until the show debuts on Wednesday, January 21st, 2009 at 8/7c.

Don’t forget that the Lost Season 4 box set will be available this Tuesday, December 9, 2008 in both DVD and Blu-ray Hi-Def formats.

Lost Wednesdays - Official Season 5 Poster

We are just a mere few weeks away from the season premiere of Lost’s fifth season, and The Blot’s anticipation has been growing significantly day by day. These little teaser promos ABC has been putting out isn’t helping either, they are just making it worse. I need a Lost fix and I need it now! Since nothing can help me until Lost returns on Wednesday, January 21st at 8/7c, maybe this will help you. It is the official Lost Season 5 television poster and it is awesome.

Destiny Calls - Lost Season 5 Television Poster
This season's theme appears to be "Destiny Calls," and so far the show's marketing has done a great job driving that premise home. I especially love the poster’s imagery of the division between the Oceanic 6 and the Losties still trapped on the island. One useful piece of information we can gather from the Lost Season 5 TV poster above is that it looks like Daniel Faraday’s (actor Jeremy Davies) life boat did in fact make it back to the island before it disappeared in Season 4’s final episode. So at least we’ll be seeing more of Faraday’s crazy scientific experiments next season. But where is Frank Lapidus in all this Lost craziness and why was he left off the poster!?! We need more Frank!

And for everyone who has been enjoying The Fray’s new single “You Found Me” in the official Lost trailer, ABC and iTunes have made the song’s new Lost-centric music video available for free download. Head over to iTunes and look up Lost Season 5 or click here to download The Fray’s Lost music video for their first single, “You Found Me” off their upcoming self-titled sophomore album The Fray due in stores on February 3, 2009.

Lost Wednesdays - Premiere Date Set and New Season 5 Footage

The Blot’s got some really exciting Lost news for today. EW.com is reporting that ABC has set a date for Lost’s return to network television. The show’s fifth season will start on January 21, 2008 at 8/7c with a special three hour event. (link) This means Lost will be returning to Wednesday nights, where it originally aired for its first three seasons, and not Thursday nights, where Season 4 aired behind ABC heavyweight Grey’s Anatomy.

Lost Season 4 Cast Photo
According to reports, the Lost Season 5 premier will start off with an hour long recap special at 8/7c, which will be followed by the season’s first two episodes broadcast back-to-back starting at 9/8c. (link) From there on out it sounds like Lost will be airing regularly in its original time slot of 9/8c. I think this is pretty exciting news, and hopefully I’ll have more news to share as we get closer to the Season 5 premiere date.

To help spur even more excitement over the upcoming season, ABC has released 15 seconds of all new footage from Lost Season 5. The new Destiny Calls promo clip may be extremely brief, but it gives Lost fans tons to scrutinize and debate. Check out the new Destiny Calls Lost promotional clip below:

And lastly, Medicom Toy Japan, Diamond Comic Distributers and Meltdown Comics are hosting the world premiere and signing event of the Be@rbrick and Kubrick Lost collection in LA on Wednesday, Nov 19. (link) Fans will have the opportunity to buy one event exclusive Be@rbrick per person, and have it signed by the show's creators and executive producers, which includes J.J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. Series 1 Lost Kubricks will also be sold without a limit until Meltdown sells out.

Be@rbrick Lost 100% and Dharma Swan Station 400% Figures
I can’t even tell you how mad I am that I’m missing out on this event. That’s what I get for not living in LA. Why doesn’t cool stuff like this happen in Houston? If any L.A. readers of The Blot Says… are thinking about attending this event please let me know because I would kill to get one of these exclusive Lost Be@rbricks autographed by the show’s creators.

Lost Wednesdays - Season 5 Trailer and Other News

Lost Wednesdays is back! It’s The Blot’s first Lost post of the 2008-2009 Television season and I’m more than a little excited about it. We’re still months away from the season premiere of Lost, but it’s never too early for some news and spoilers. There’s one bit of information that even The Blot won’t post about, but if you don’t care about spoilers and need to know right away then click here to watch a very spoiler filled video interview. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Lost
Next up is the first teaser trailer for Lost’s upcoming Season 5! We haven’t had any new Lost in a really long time so even these brief glimpses of the upcoming season should be a real treat for Lost fans worldwide:

Secondly, I thought everyone would be interested in knowing that the titles for the first six episodes of Season 5 have been revealed. (link) Now the real speculation can begin! The titles are:

Episode 5.01 – Because You Left
Episode 5.02 – The Lie
Episode 5.03 – Jughead
Episode 5.04 – The Little Prince
Episode 5.05 – This Place Is Death
Episode 5.06 – The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham.

Dominic MonaghanAnd lastly, a quasi cross-over that has The Blot really excited! Everyone’s favorite deceased Lostie, Charlie Pace, will be appearing in an episode of NBC’s Chuck! Well maybe it’s not Charlie exactly, but Dominic Monaghan has signed on to play “a free-spirited British rock star targeted for death by a shadowy group of evildoers.” (link) If that’s not Charlie then I must be going crazy! If you’d like to find out more about Monaghan’s upcoming guest-starring role on Chuck then check out this exclusive interview with the former Lost star by Michael Ausiello.

Chuck has quickly become one of The Blot’s favorite TV shows and I really wish more people were watching it. So, if you’re a devout fan of all things Lost then do The Blot and yourself a favor and tune in to Chuck on Monday, February 2nd at 8/7c on NBC for Dominic Monaghan’s return to television as Charlie Pace Tyler Martin.

Lost Wednesdays - Season 4 Wrap Up

Lost may be over for the foreseeable future, but I figured we weren’t too far removed from its Season 4 finale that The Blot Says… couldn’t have one last Lost Wednesdays entry. I thought I’d bring it to everyone’s attention that “despite its lowest-rated finale to date, off 17% from last year,” the Lost's two-hour season finale was not only the highest rated show on Thursday, May 29th, but it was also the highest rated show of the week (for the week ending June 1st). (link)

Lost: The Complete Fourth Season DVD Box Set
Lost ended its fourth season with 12.3 million viewers (a 4.9 rating) and a 13 share in the adults 18-49 demographic. (link) While not the best ratings ever, especially considering most shows on network television had already ended their seasons, Lost still won the week for the first time in a very long time.

Lost
If you’re looking for a quick, easy to read Season 4 review, head over to TV Squad.com and check Erin Martell’s “Lost Season Four Highlights” and “Lost Season Four Letdowns.” Martell’s two posts definitely hit all of the season’s highs and lows, and I particularly liked her review of Michael Emerson’s performance as Benjamin Linus this season.

Banyon Garcia Banyon by Dominic Monaghan
Also, if you’re like me and always searching for another great blog to start reading, may I direct you to Dispatches from the Island. It’s the personal blog of Lost’s very own Jorge Garcia (a.k.a. Hurley). If you love Lost then you’ll really love the pictures Garcia posts on a regular basis from his every day life and from the set of Lost.

And lastly, if you were still trying to figure out what Sawyer whispered to Kate in the helicopter before he jumped out and swam back to the island, here is a video of what seems to be a pretty accurate deciphering of his secretive mumbling (Although be aware that upon further review the first line of subtitles seems to be wrong and Sawyer actually says, “I have a daughter in Albuquerque.”):

Lost Wednesdays - The Day Before The Season 4 Finale

Lost - Michael Emerson as Ben LinusMan, I can’t even describe how excited I am for Lost’s 2 hour season finale tomorrow night. I have been trying to stay away from spoilers as best I can because I really don’t want to know anything about Thursday night’s extended episode, but no matter where I turn I keep hearing about one thing over and over…death. But that’s to be expected when it comes to Lost. If we’ve learned anything these past few years it’s that no one’s safe. Well, except for who’s still alive in this year’s Flash Forwards, the Oceanic 6 and Benjamin Linus.

Lost - Kevin Durand as Martin KeamyI’ve got two interesting interviews to pass along, the first is from USAToday and it’s with Kevin Durand, or as we all know him, the vicious mercenary Martin Keamy. You can read the interview in its entirety here. The second interview is from TV Guide and is with everyone’s favorite villain, Ben Linus. Ok, it’s really with Michael Emerson, the actor who plays Ben, but aren’t they really one in the same? You can read that interview here.

And lastly, thanks to Whitney over at Pop Candy for pointing me in the direction of this awesome YouTube clip. (link) It takes all of this season’s Flash Forwards and puts them into chronological order! The clip clocks in at a little under 9 minutes long, so it’s definitely not short, but if you love Lost and have ever wondered how everything in the future fits together then you definitely need to watch the video below:

Lost Wednesdays with Lost Season Four DVD News

We’re in the middle of what I like to call the Lost hump week right now. It’s the week long break between Part 1 of Lost’s season finale and Parts 2 and 3 of the Season Four finale, which will air a week from Thursday on May 29th, 2008. There’s not too much non-spoiler news circulating the net right now but I did find out that the date has been set for the release of the Lost Season Four DVD box set. Just in time for the holiday season, Lost - The Complete 4th Season: The Expanded Experience will hit stores on December 9, 2008. (link)

Lost: The Complete Fourth Season DVD Box Set
The five disk set with include all 14 episodes from this season including Lost bloopers, an Oceanic Airlines Safety Guide, audio commentaries and deleted scenes. There will also be five different documentaries including one on the Music of Lost and one on the Freighter Folk, which explores where “the folks on the freighter come from” and “what the show runners looked for in new cast members.” (link) Lost: The Complete Fourth Season DVD box set is available now for pre-order at Amazon.com.

Lost - The Island's Mysterious Four Toed StatueAlso, EW.com has a great article discussing Lost’s 17 Enduring Mysteries. It tackles everything from the big mysteries of “what is the monster” and “what are the numbers” to secondary/minor mysteries like what’s the deal with the Dharma polar bears. It’s an interesting, yet cursory look at all of the overarching questions still left unanswered as we enter the final homestretch and await the Lost’s final two seasons.

Lost Wednesdays - ABC OKs Two Additional Hours

Here’s some great news for Lost fans, those two missing hours of programming from Season 4 of Lost have finally be found. As most of you are aware, because of the writers strike hiatus Lost was only able to produce 14 episodes of the season's originally planned 16. This led fans to ask whether or not those two remaining episodes would be tacked on to Lost’s final two seasons or if the series would just be two episodes shorter than originally planned. Well last week we got our answer.

Lost
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “the 2009 and 2010 editions of the hit drama will be 17 hours each – not 16 as previously planned.” (link) As I tried to explain above, “ABC has added two hours to the show’s production plan because the WGA strike knocked three hours out of the current season. To partly compensate, the network recently added an additional hour to Part 2 of the season finale that airs May 29.” (link)

Lost - Terry O'Quinn Celebrating His 2007 Emmy Win for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama SeriesLost Co-Executive producer Damon Lindelof explained that “we were supposed to do 16-16-16, but we ended up doing 14 this season, so we owe two.” (link) Unfortunately, in the same interview Lindelof “ruled out the show extending beyond the remaining 34-episode order.” (link) While I’m sad to hear there won’t be any last second extending of the series, I think the way ABC and the show’s producers are handling Lost is 100% the right way. It seems to be speeding up the storyline and satisfying both obsessive and casual fans of the show. I’m just glad to hear we’ll be getting those two episodes after all and that the show’s writers know exactly where they’ll be taking the story from here on out. The worst part is knowing that after the next three weeks we’ll have to wait almost a full year until we see new episodes of Lost on ABC.

The Hollywood Reporter article “Lost adds hours” is pretty interesting and I recommend all Lost fans reading it here.

Lost Wednesdays Is Back!

Well, at least for a week it is. While everyone is patiently waiting for the 5 remaining episodes of Lost Season 4 to begin airing, The Blot has some exciting news! After a lot of discussion between ABC and Lost Executive Producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, ABC has finally agreed “to bring us an extra hour of Lost this season.” (link) Yes, you’ve read that correctly, the Lost crew has figured out a way to produce an extra episode this season! I guess cramming in eight episodes worth of story lines into 5 hour episodes wasn’t as easy as it sounds. Thankfully, to the benefit of Lost fans worldwide, we will now be getting 14 episodes this season.

Lost
The next logical question is how is ABC going to be scheduling this additional hour of programming while still giving the cast and crew enough time to produce it? Well, TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello has all the scoop:

With a 14th hour of Lost now a done deal, the show’s finale will swell to three hours. But, in what can only be described as an unorthodox scheduling move, the first hour of that finale will air on May 15, and then we have to wait two weeks – until May 29 – to get the last two hours! That’s right, no Lost on May 22. (link)
Lost Co-Executive Producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse

The one week break seems very confusing at first until you find out the rest of the story. Because Lost's Exec-Producers convinced ABC they needed to air the final two hours of Lost at the same time and because ABC had already scheduled the season finales of Ugly Betty and Grey’s Anatomy for May 22nd, ABC decided to push the season finale of Lost back a week and ordered an extra episode of Grey’s Anatomy to fill the hour gap left by Lost's move. So not only has this decision given Lost an extra episode, but now fans of Grey’s Anatomy get rewarded with a previously unscheduled two hour season finale. It sounds like it’s working out for all fans of ABC’s hit dramas.

TV Guide's Michael Ausiello
As always, no Ausiello report is complete with at least a little tease of what’s coming up on the finale 6 episodes of the season. The semi-spoiler comes at the end of a Carlton Cuse quote given to Ausiello explaining why the additional hour was needed, “Damon and I were working on the script and we just couldn’t get it all done in one hour without shortchanging the story. Now the finale will have all the sweep and emotional completeness we wanted it to have – along with, of course, answering who’s in the coffin.” (link) If that doesn’t get you excited for Lost’s return on April 24th at 10/9c then I don’t know what will.

ABC's new revised schedule looks like this:

May 15
8/7c PM: Ugly Betty
9/8c PM: Grey's Anatomy
10/9c PM: Lost (Season Finale, Part 1)

May 22
8/7c PM: Ugly Betty (Season Finale)
9/8c PM: Grey's Anatomy (Two Hour Season Finale)

May 29
8/7c PM: Lost (Season Finale, Part 1) repeat
9/8c PM: Lost (Season Finale, Parts 2 & 3)

Lost Wednesdays

This is an especially short edition of The Blot’s Lost Wednesdays since I’m posting it at the same time as my review of last week’s episode of Lost, “Meet Kevin Johnson” (which you can read here).

According to TV Squad’s review of the Official Lost Podcast, the debate about who the members of the Oceanic 6 are is over. (link) The podcast confirmed that “last week’s ABC promo was 100% accurate, the Oceanic Six are Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, Aaron and Sun.” (link) I can’t wait to see how they explain Kate carrying Aaron on the flight without the U.S. Marshall having reported Kate's having a child to anyone back in the States. Evidently the reason Lindelof and Cuse said all would be reveled about Oceanic 6 by the seventh episode is because “they didn’t want to spoilt the ending of ‘Ji Yeon,” in which Jin’s Flash Forward was revealed to be a Flash Back.” (link) We should be learning more about the Oceanic 6 in future episodes this Spring.

Lost - M.C. Gainey as TomAnd lastly, it seems a subject from early in Season 3 is finally touched upon again as the subject of Tom’s sexuality was again brought up in “Meet Kevin Johnson.” The Official Lost Podcast confirmed that “the scene with Tom and Arturo at the Hotel Earle was to clarify who the rumored gay Lost character was.” (link) I’m always glad when the writers of Lost go back to minor storylines or bits of throwaway dialogue from the past that have sparked debate among Lost fans and fleshes them out by incorporating them into future stories, but it seems like a missed opportunity here when the character in question has already been killed in current Lost time. Its a shame that in hindsight Lost has killed off its only confirmed homosexual character. At least we can rest assure that this episode will probably not be the last time we see Tom (a.k.a. Mr. Friendly) on Lost given that we’ve already seen him multiple times in Flash Backs since being killed by Sawyer on the beach at the end of Season 3.

Lost Wednesdays

Lost - Harold Perrineau as Michael Dawson (a.k.a. Kevin Johnson)Michael is back and all is right with the world! You know the rumor was that the creators of Lost wanted Michael back last year, meaning he would have never missed a full season, except they couldn’t work out a contract for his return and then Harold Perrineau was cast in the horror movie 28 Weeks Later, which conflicted with Lost’s filming schedule. What is interesting about that rumor is that it is completely rebuffed by an excellent interview with the actor posted on CNN yesterday. According to the article:

The 44-year-old actor from New York tenses up when he talks about the third season. Perrineau was the only one of the 14 original "Lost" cast members to not appear in a third-season flashback, mind-bending vision or otherwise. He says he "wasn't so happy" about the creative decision to leave Michael and Walt off the island and focus on others.

"I was hurt, really hurt," said Perrineau. "I told myself I had to watch the show, so I at least knew what was going on in case I was brought back, but then I was like, 'Why?' I never knew what was going on before. Why should I start trying to figure it out now?"

Instead of waiting by the phone to hear if his character would return to the series, Perrineau moved on to other projects, including a part in the film "28 Weeks Later" and a role in the CBS pilot "Demons." When "Demons" didn't get picked up, that made room in Perrineau's schedule to get "Lost" again. (link)

Lost - Harold Perrineau as Michael Dawson (a.k.a. Kevin Johnson)

You know this really contradicts everything I had heard about the creators of Lost wanting to bring Perrineau back to the show and it really frustrates me. It angers me that we were force fed Nikki and Paulo when the executive producers could have just sucked it up and gotten Michael back to the island faster. But, the longer wait may have given more mystery as to what struggling single father Michael Dawson has been up to during these past three months of “island time.” I guess as long as they give Michael some quality screen time and a reasonable explanation as to why he’s working with Ben all will be forgiven.

According to the same interview, many of our questions as to where Michael and Walt have been will be answered in tomorrow’s Michael-centric episode "Meet Kevin Johnson." The article promises tomorrow night’s episode will not only explain to us in Flash Backs where Michael’s been, but “will [also] feature flashbacks detailing what happened after Perrineau's character shockingly gunned down fellow passengers Ana-Lucia and Libby in order to release seemingly evil Ben and retrieve his son Walt from captivity.” (link) I have always felt bad for Michael in that he always seems to make the wrong decision that just keeps getting him in deeper and deeper trouble. You’d think with his and Walt’s escape from the island while leaving his friends behind and killing Ana-Lucia and Libby in the process would weight heavily upon him. Heavily enough to eventually bring him back to the island, and here he is.

Lost Co-Executive Producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton CuseThe last two tidbits from this week’s Lost Wednesdays come from TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello. It seems that who the final member of the Oceanic 6 will not be revealed after all. (link) Carlton Cuse told Ausiello that they’re “not going public with any further clarifications right now,” and that they “don’t determine how ABC promotes the show.” (link) Man that certainly is a downer when it comes to Jin’s ultimate fate, isn’t it? But, Cuse does say that “you have now seen all of the Oceanic Six in this season’s episodes.” (link) If that’s not the biggest non-answer I’ve ever heard then I don’t know what one is. Of course we’ve seen all of the members of the Oceanic 6 this season, we’ve seen every possible member of it this year except maybe Walt, so I guess that means strike him off the list.

The Mysterious Four Toed StatueAnother interesting tidbit about the four toed statue was featured on Ausiello’s blog this week. According to co-executive producer Damon Lindelof the reason we haven’t seen the statue again is that they “got a note back from the network that said, ‘This is too weird,’" (link) Evidently a six toed statue would have been ok, but a four toed statue was just too much for ABC. Hopefully the show’s writers will be able to find a way to bring the statue back into the fray that’s not too out there for the ABC brass. Well that’s all I’ve got for this week, I just wish it was Thursday already so we could get some answers and maybe even a sneak peak at just how tall Walt’s gotten.

Lost Wednesdays

This is going to be an ultra short The Blot Says… Lost Wednesdays because I don’t want to give away too much information on tomorrow nights episode “Ji Yeon.” I will say The Blot is expecting to see two big revelations, one of which I’ve been waiting for since I heard the news of it at the end of last year. I thought it was happening last week but I know for sure its happening tonight, which is exciting at least for me.

Lost
Along with the big reveal I’ve been waiting for, TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello is saying that we’re going to be having a lot of questions answered including who Ben’s spy on the freighter is and more importantly who the remaining members of the Oceanic 6 are. (link) I also have it on good authority that the captain of the freighter will also finally be revealed during tomorrow’s episode. That’s a lot of bombshells and information in just one episode, but I guess it makes up for last week's slow episode.

Lost - Nestor Carbonell as Richard Alpert
Ausiello also has it “on good authority that Nestor Carbonell has inked a deal to reprise his role as ageless island dweller Richard in at least one of this season’s final five episodes.” (link) That’s very exciting news as I know lots of us have been dying to find out why Richard Alpert looks to have stopped aging, while Ben has obviously kept growing since coming to the island as a little boy. There also seemed to be some tension between Ben and the rest of the Others including Richard, so it will be interesting to see where the Lost writers steer that aspect of the story.
