This year marks the 25th anniversary of Eric Powell’s The Goon! To celebrate the comic book character’s silver anniversary, CODA is releasing this awesome San Diego Comic-Con 2024 Exclusive The Goon “Misery is a Cold Wrench” Letterpress Print by Rob Jones and Eric Powell. This rad letterpress print was pressed by Travis Smith at the Press Room on a 1955 Vandercook.  The Blot is a sucker for a good letterpress print and this one looks amazing!

“Misery is a Cold Wrench” by Rob Jones and Eric Powell is a 16”x24” letterpress print (so it has comic book dimensions).  The SDCC 2024 Exclusive Variant is on jaundiced 100 lb. Yellow paper and limited to just 25 pieces, while the CODA Online Variant is on orange paper and also limited to 25 pieces exclusively at CODAcurates.com. Eric Powell will have an artist signing at the CODA SDCC booth #4900 on Friday, July 26th, from 1-2pm.

The Goon Screen Print by Eric Powell x Mondo

Later today, Mondo celebrates the 20th anniversary of Eric Powell’s The Goon comic book series with this awesome new screen print by the character’s creator! The poster debuted last weekend at Mondo’s celebration of the landmark comic series and its 20th anniversary. The Goon by Eric Powell is a 24”x36” hand numbered screen print. Limited to just 125 pieces, this killer poster will go on sale at a random time today, Thursday, April 18th, at the Mondo online store for $50.

The Goon Teaser Movie Poster and Concept Trailer

To be honest, I had totally forgotten there was a The Goon animated film, based on the Dark Horse comic by Eric Powell, in the works until I read a report of its San Diego Comic-Con 2010 panel. I watched the concept trailer they debuted there (see below) and was blown away by its CG animation! After that I pulled a complete 180°…from not caring enough to remember, to being really excited for the film. Then earlier this week Blur Studio released the first teaser movie poster for the film, illustrated by Eric Powell, and I knew it was time to start blogging about the upcoming movie.


I originally thought The Goon animated film would be a direct-to-video release, but according to the teaser movie poster above it will be released in theaters. That’s a pretty surprising, yet good, development. I always liked The Goon comic book, although I haven’t read it in a few years, and can’t wait to see how they translate The Goon’s story to the big screen. The Blot’s also a huge Paul Giamatti fan, so it was cool to learn he’s playing a major role in the film (as the voice of Franky).



The Goon stars Clancy Brown as the Goon and Paul Giamatti as Franky. This film does not currently have a release date scheduled.
