This year marks the 25th anniversary of Eric Powell’s The Goon! To celebrate the comic book character’s silver anniversary, CODA is releasing this awesome San Diego Comic-Con 2024 Exclusive The Goon “Misery is a Cold Wrench” Letterpress Print by Rob Jones and Eric Powell. This rad letterpress print was pressed by Travis Smith at the Press Room on a 1955 Vandercook.  The Blot is a sucker for a good letterpress print and this one looks amazing!

“Misery is a Cold Wrench” by Rob Jones and Eric Powell is a 16”x24” letterpress print (so it has comic book dimensions).  The SDCC 2024 Exclusive Variant is on jaundiced 100 lb. Yellow paper and limited to just 25 pieces, while the CODA Online Variant is on orange paper and also limited to 25 pieces exclusively at CODAcurates.com. Eric Powell will have an artist signing at the CODA SDCC booth #4900 on Friday, July 26th, from 1-2pm.

Last week, Mondo released a new The Texas Chain Saw Massacre movie poster by artist Eric Powell! As Mondo explained, “Eric returns with a tribute to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and its truly gruesome opening image. Searing and sunbaked as the film itself, his killer screenprint begs the question, ‘Who will survive and what will be left of them?’”

Mondo To Release Three New Godzilla Screen Prints by Attack Peter, Robert Sammelin & Eric Powell

When SXSW was cancelled, Mondo sadly also canceled their Godzilla group art show. This celebration of the King of the Monsters will now be released online, with screen prints gradually being released over the next few weeks. Mondo is releasing its second batch of three Godzilla posters today by artists Attack Peter, Robert Sammelin, and Eric Powell! All three movie posters seen here will go on sale at 11am CDT today, Tuesday, March 24th, at The Drop on MondoShop.com.

Peter Santa-Maria aka Attack Peter is a printmaker who focuses on hand-carved linocut prints on Lokta paper (handmade paper imported from Nepal) that he prints himself. As Mondo explained, “Godzilla seemed like a no brainer for our first projects with Peter, and we're super happy with the result. In total we worked on three “Godzilla vs” posters for this collection, with the first release being for the Shōwa era’s Godzilla vs The Thing, also known as Mothra vs Godzilla.”

Next up is Robert Sammelin and his posters for 2016’s Shin Godzilla. Released in 2016, and the first film in the Reiwa era, this modern Godzilla film is an amazing return to form. Mondo stated, “Robert absolutely crushed the illustration on this poster, rendering everything traditionally in ink on paper. The Japanese language variant poster features glow in the dark inks on those awesome atomic rays that come out from between G’s dorsal fins. Just unreal.”

Last but certainly not least is Eric Powell’s haunting poster for the original Godzilla film. Mondo went on to say, “Presented mostly in silhouette, Eric's artwork is a beautiful and classic celebration of the original King of the Monsters and his massive scale, as well as devastating destruction that is often left in his wake.”

Mothra Vs Godzilla by Attack Peter is a 20”x30” signed and numbered Linocut Print on Lokta Paper. Limited to 120 pieces, it will retail for $80.

Shin Godzilla by Robert Sammelin is a 36”x24” hand numbered screen print. The Regular Edition is limited to 275 pieces and will retail for $60, while the Variant is limited to 150 pieces and will retail for $75.

Godzilla by Eric Powell is a 24”x36” hand numbered screen print. The Regular Edition is limited to 175 pieces and will retail for $55, while the Variant is limited to 100 pieces and will retail for $75.

MondoCon 2019 Exclusive The Godfather Screen Print by Eric Powell x Mondo

Mondo has begun to unveil its exclusives for MondoCon 2019, with new items revealed every day from September 3th through September 13th! These prints, pins, apparel and tikis can only be purchased at the official Mondo booth at MondoCon 5. First up is this fantastic The Godfather movie poster screen print by artist Eric Powell. Mondo has released a fun new movie poster screen print by Eric Powell for the newest Planet of the Apes film, War for the Planet of the Apes. The film debuts in theaters tonight, and The Blot can’t wait to see it. Powell’s design, which features Caesar leading his army of apes on horseback, looks awesome! As Mondo explains, “Eric’s use of color and the lush, snow-filled environment is just gorgeous and wonderfully juxtaposed by the intensity of the apes charging forward.”

Over the next week Mondo will continue to unveil their line-up of San Diego Comic-Con 2017 exclusives, and The Blot can’t wait to see them all! Their latest reveal is this fantastic Contra screen print by acclaimed comic book creator Eric Powell for the classic Konami video game franchise. Limited to 225 pieces, this hand numbered 18”x24” screen print can be purchased on Preview Night next Wednesday at Mondo’s SDCC booth #835.

The Goon Teaser Movie Poster and Concept Trailer

To be honest, I had totally forgotten there was a The Goon animated film, based on the Dark Horse comic by Eric Powell, in the works until I read a report of its San Diego Comic-Con 2010 panel. I watched the concept trailer they debuted there (see below) and was blown away by its CG animation! After that I pulled a complete 180°…from not caring enough to remember, to being really excited for the film. Then earlier this week Blur Studio released the first teaser movie poster for the film, illustrated by Eric Powell, and I knew it was time to start blogging about the upcoming movie.


I originally thought The Goon animated film would be a direct-to-video release, but according to the teaser movie poster above it will be released in theaters. That’s a pretty surprising, yet good, development. I always liked The Goon comic book, although I haven’t read it in a few years, and can’t wait to see how they translate The Goon’s story to the big screen. The Blot’s also a huge Paul Giamatti fan, so it was cool to learn he’s playing a major role in the film (as the voice of Franky).



The Goon stars Clancy Brown as the Goon and Paul Giamatti as Franky. This film does not currently have a release date scheduled.
