Lost Austin “I Love Video” Screen Print by Tim Doyle

Lost Austin “I Love Video” Screen Print by Tim Doyle

The newest print in Tim Doyle’s ongoing Lost Austin print series is now available exclusively at Parts and Labour, a great local Austin, Texas business that supports the Austin artist community.  As Tim explained, “There’s few storefronts that still resonate ‘old Austin’ to me quite like the I Luv Video on Airport Blvd did. The murals, the sign, the building – all completely incongruous and unique in the rapidly evolving Austin retail market. I Luv’s very existence, a video store in a streaming-video world…it’s like finding an unused ’57 Chevy in a barn out in the sticks. “How is this still here and how is it so perfect?” But Covid and real estate has claimed another victim, and I knew I couldn’t let this business go by unlamented. I’m releasing this print through another local Austin business that has survived despite the challenges – Parts and Labour.”

“Parts and Labour is the unsung linchpin of the working Austin artist community. Literally 100’s of artists in Austin can pay their bills, continue their craft, because of Parts and Labour. If P&L ever goes away, expect to see a mass exodus of talent and charm and general weirdness from Austin. So here’s to I Luv Video, and here’s to Parts and Labour. Keep Austin Weird, and this year – shop local, because without local businesses, Austin will be as culturally empty as a foreclosed Blockbuster Video.” – Tim Doyle

Lost Austin “I Love Video” by Tim Doyle is a 16”x20” signed and numbered screen print. The first edition is limited to 150 pieces and can be purchased exclusively at partsandlabourstore.myshopify.com for $35.

Since then Nakatomi has grown from a small mom and pop website with a tiny print shop in a one car garage, to a company with a full time staff operating out of a warehouse, and clients ranging from Metallica to Marvel comics! Man, has time flown by or what? Congrats Tim and crew on this huge milestone!

Mad Max “Director's Chair with George Miller” Screen Print by Tim Doyle x Joshua Budich x El Ray

Mad Max Fury Road “Director's Chair with George Miller” Screen Print by Tim Doyle x Joshua Budich x El Ray

The El Ray network, whose offices are literally on the same street as the Nakatomi Print Labs, has commissioned artists Tim Doyle and Joshua Budich to produce a print for the George Miller episode of their acclaimed Director's Chair television series! The Blot is a huge sucker for collab prints, and this is the very first time Doyle and Budich (two of my favorite artists) have worked together on a design.

Doyle explained on his newsletter how this awesome collaboration came about: “El Rey/Troublemaker Studios all around graphics/art guy, Kurt Volk, came to me a few months back about producing a series of prints for their upcoming Director's Chair series. I personally was super-slammed with work, so I called on Josh Budich to handle the first couple of releases in the series. But when I saw that George Miller was next in line, I made sure I got my mitts on this one, and I was super-happy when Budich agreed to collaborate with me on the print! I drew the car and its passengers, and Josh KILLED that portrait of the man himself! This whole project was art directed by Robert Rodriguez, which is a weird honor to be getting notes from RR!”

“Director's Chair with George Miller” by Tim Doyle and Joshua Budich is an 18”x24” signed and numbered 4 color El Ray screen print. Limited to 350 pieces, a very limited number of prints are currently available for purchase at the Nakatomi online store for just $30.

Tim Doyle’s “UnReal Estate IV: The Movie” Art Show Opens Tonight at Spoke Art!

“UnReal Estate IV: The Movie” Solo Art Show by Tim Doyle - Ghostbusters

Spoke Art is pleased to welcome back gallery Austin artist Tim Doyle for his fourth solo exhibition of his popular on-going “UnReal Estate” screen print series! For this year’s installment, Doyle has tackled all new locations from cinema’s most popular cult classics, re-imagining their locales in his signature style. The Blot is a huge fan of Doyle’s art and I can’t wait to see this entire show. Tim’s been killing it for years now with this UnReal Estate series, and this show will be equally stunning. UnReal Estate IV: The Movie will include fictional locations from popular films like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Ghostbusters, Fight Club and so much more!

“UnReal Estate IV: The Movie” Solo Art Show by Tim Doyle - Harry Potter

UnReal Estate IV: The Movie is a complete transformation from previous years, shifting the artist’s focus towards the big screen. Paying homage to some of cinema’s iconic locations, Doyle is able to reconstruct these landscapes in his personal surreal style. One could say that the environments of these movies are just as important as the characters that inhabit them. Doyle has not limited himself to one genre but rather explored a multitude of different films, covering everything from Miyazaki’s inspired Sprited Away to Tarantino’s edgy Pulp Fiction.

“UnReal Estate IV: The Movie” Solo Art Show by Tim Doyle - Lord of the Rings

“UnReal Estate IV: The Movie” solo art show by Tim Doyle opens tonight, Thursday, July 2nd, at 6pm PDT at the Spoke Art gallery (816 Sutter St. San Francisco CA 94109), and Tim will be in attendance for the opening reception! This amazing show includes ten designs in all, with Doyle creating both original pen and ink drawings as well as hand-pulled screen prints (with accompanying variant editions). As a special treat to all attendees, there will be an exclusive limited edition give-away print, only available to the first 50 people at the opening.
