The Dark Knight Rises Final IMAX Movie Poster

The Dark Knight Rises Final One Sheet Movie Poster

Happy Batman Day!!! We’ve finally arrived to the world premiere of The Dark Knight Rises and The Blot’s pretty excited. Didn’t it seem like July 20th would never come? Well last night The Blot, along with millions of people around the country (and possibly the globe), filed into their local movie theaters for midnight screenings of Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film. Don’t worry, no spoilers here. I actually wrote this before heading to see the movie knowing there was no way I was writing anything once learning it had a 2 hour and 45 min run time. I did see it in IMAX though, so I thought showcasing the film’s final IMAX one sheet movie poster appropriate.

The Dark Knight Rises in now in theaters everywhere…go see it today, tonight or this weekend. If not, come Monday you’ll probably be one of the only people who hasn’t.

SDCC 12 Exclusive The Dark Knight Rises Screen Print by Jock

San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Exclusive The Dark Knight Rises Screen Print by Jock

For the longest time I’ve wanted to see a super hero screen print designed by an actual comic book artist, and that time is finally here! Mondo just announced it would be releasing a San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Exclusive The Dark Knight Rises screen print by Jock tomorrow at their SDCC booth $437. I’d love to get my hands on one, but I’m pretty sure there are already print and comic book fans lining up for this one. This is a 24”x36” print with a limited edition run size of 375 pieces, and will go on sale for $45 tomorrow, July 12th, at a random time.

San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Exclusive The Dark Knight Rises Variant Screen Print by Jock

The Dark Knight Rises Variant Screen Print by Jock is more of a movie poster style image featuring all of the villains from the Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Sadly this variant (which has a limited edition run size of 350 pieces) will not be going on sale. Instead, Warner Bros will be handing it 250 of these prints to fans attending The Dark Knight Rises Home Town Screening at SDCC. I hope this means Jock will eventually be releasing the remaining 50 as APs sometime down the road.

The Dark Knight Bat-Pod with Batman & The Joker Mini Mez-Itz Vehicle Set

Mezco Toyz - The Dark Knight Bat-Pod with Batman & The Joker Mini Mez-Itz Vehicle Set

Mezco Toyz continues its line of The Dark Knight toys with this vehicle set featuring a 2” Batman Mini Mez-Itz, a Joker 2” Mini Mez-Itz and the Bat-Pod (which premiered in The Dark Knight). Now you can recreate in your very own home one of the greatest movies of all time! While The Blot may have hated the Tumbler, I have to admit the Bat-Pod is pretty freaking sweet. I would personally love to cruise around town in one of these bad boys.

I’ve still yet to see any of Mezco’s Mini Mez-Itz vehicles in person, but in general I’ve been very impressed with Mezco's line of Mez-Itz vinyl figures. I stumbled upon some of their Mini Mez-Itz keychains and the figures looked pretty cool considering they’re 2” tall. The 2 inch Batman and Joker Mini Mez-Itz vinyl figures feature all the coolness and articulation of its larger counterpart at 1/3 the size. Batman can also fit atop the “legendary” Bat-Pod as he attempts to catch the Clown Prince.

The Dark Knight Bat-Pod with Batman and The Joker Mini Mez-Itz Vehicle Set is not scheduled to ship until April 2012, but you can pre-order one here from EntertainmentEarth.com for $20.99.

The Dark Knight Rises Full Trailer #1

Here it is, the first full trailer for this summer’s The Dark Knight Rises! I don’t know why, but seeing this in the theater last weekend didn’t get me as excited for the film as I thought it would. I’ve since rewatched it a few times and it’s definitely growing on me, but I’m not sold on Bane as the film’s main villain yet. Then again this could all be a rouse similar to Batman Begins. I’m still holding out hope we find out it is really Ra's al Ghul or the Riddler behind all these shenanigans. Either way, I know where I’ll be at midnight on my birthday next year! I have to believe this will be a fitting end to DC Comics' greatest trilogy. As I always like to say, “In Christopher Nolan We Trust.”

The Dark Knight Rises premieres in theaters worldwide on Friday, July 20, 2012.

The Dark Knight Batman Mini Mez-Itz with Tumbler Vehicle Set

The Dark Knight Batman 2 Inch Mini Mez-Itz with Tumbler Vehicle Set

Mezco Toyz continues its line of The Dark Knight toys with this vehicle set featuring a 2” Batman Mini Mez-Itz and the Tumbler from Batman Begins. I have to say, the “Tumbler” for a Batman vehicle is just about the worst name possible. Didn’t Christopher Nolan know any Batman vehicle has to have the world “Bat” in its name? From here on out, let’s just call it the Batmobile ok?

The Blot has yet to see any of the Mini Mez-Itz vehicles in person yet, but in general I’ve been very impressed with Mezco's line of Mez-Itz vinyl figures. According to Mezco, the 2 inch Batman Mini Mez-Itz features all the coolness and articulation of its larger counterpart at 1/3 the size. Batman can also fit inside the Tumbler through a secret doorway, and there’s even room for a 2nd passenger! The Tumbler sports a unique film accurate 6 wheel design and comes packaged with Batman in a collector friendly window box.

The Dark Knight Batman Mini Mez-Itz 2 with Tumbler Vehicle Set is not scheduled to ship until April 2012, but you can pre-order one here from EntertainmentEarth.com for $20.99.

The Dark Knight Rises Second Look: Anne Hathaway as Catwoman

The Dark Knight Rises Second Look: Anne Hathaway as Catwoman

Thank god! Everyone’s fears surrounding Anne Hathaway’s costume as Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film The Dark Knight Rises can finally be put to rest. Just Jared leaked photos yesterday of Hathaway in a proper Catwoman costume with both a black mask and cat ears! It’s not quite the modern day version of Catwoman everyone was hoping for, but it’s definitely better than the first leaked photos of Hathaway as Selena Kyle seen here. More details to come as they're leaked!

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled for release on July 20, 2012.

The Dark Knight Rises Teaser Trailer

The first teaser trailer for The Dark Knight Rises debuted last week and boy does it look good! If you’re new to The Blot Says… then let me just warn you now, expect lots of coverage of Christopher Nolan’s third and final Batman film. Nolan’s first two Batman movies are two of my all time favorites, and I’m seriously geeked up for this final installment. Heck, Nolan even makes Bane look badass (at least in a 2 second spot). If only DC could get some other entertaining films actually made.

The Dark Knight Rises is set to premiere in theaters worldwide on July 20, 2012 (the day after my birthday!).

The Dark Knight Rises Teaser Movie Poster

The Dark Knight Rises Teaser Theatrical One Sheet Movie Poster

Earlier this week Warner Bros. released the very first one sheet movie poster for 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises directed by Christopher Nolan. The Blot would think this poster was a lot cooler if it didn’t remind me so much of Nolan’s last film, Inception. Didn’t he already release almost this exact same poster image earlier this year? All those posters needed was a bat like outline in the middle. Regardless, The Blot is super stoked for the release of Nolan's third Batman film.

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to premiere in theaters worldwide on July 20, 2012 (one day after my birthday!).

The Blot Reviews The 81st Annual Academy Awards Nominations

Yesterday, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences unveiled the nominees for their 81st Annual Academy Awards show and The Blot is more than a little disappointed in who was left off the ballot. Neither The Dark Knight nor its director Christopher Nolan were shown any love from Oscar! This is just another example of why the Academy Awards have take such a huge ratings hit over the past few years. It’s like they are trying to push viewers away from their telecast.

The Oscars hosted by Hugh Jackman - Official 81st Annual Academy Awards Poster
Too often the Academy gets wrapped up in art films no one sees and refuses to acknowledge the artistic majesty of films embraced by the masses. Yes, The Dark Knight was a superhero movie, but once you look past its comic book origins the film truly is an artistic masterpiece. The truth is, very few films in recent memory have resonated with the American people like The Dark Knight did this past summer, and I really believe that grossing as much money as The Dark Knight did says something about the quality of the film.

Thankfully the real star of that movie, the amazing Heath Ledger who was taken from his friends and family too soon, received the Best Supporting Actor nomination he so richly deserved. I will be tuning in to the Oscar telecast next month if for no other reason than to see Mr. Ledger win this award. I have no idea who will be accepting the award on his behalf, but I expect a rousing tribute to an amazing talent.

I was also unbelievably shocked to find out that Bruce Springsteen was not nominated for his song “The Wrestler” from the movie of the same name considering he just won a Golden Globe for the very same song a few weeks ago. Not only that, but the Academy only nominated three songs this year for its Best Song category. Something about that just doesn’t sit well with The Blot!

81st Annual Academy Awards Best Movie Nominees - Slumdog Millionaire, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Reader, Frost/Nixon, Milk
Regardless, I was really happy to see a Best Actor nomination go to Mickey Rourke for his performance in The Wrestler and a surprising nomination in that very same category go to Richard Jenkins for his role in The Visitor. I also thought Robert Downey Jr.’s Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role in Tropic Thunder was the perfect way to cap off his 2008 comeback. The other interesting storyline brewing is if Kate Winslet will finally win an Oscar this year after having lost 5 times before. All in all, it should be a very interested awards ceremony to say the least!

The 81st Annual Academy Awards will be hosted by Hugh Jackman and air on February 22nd at 8/7c on ABC.

The Dark Knight Surpasses The $500 Million Mark

Batman Poster by Jim LeeThe Dark Knight has now officially passed the $500 million plateau in domestic box office grosses, becoming just the second movie in Hollywood history to do so. This is a pretty huge statistic in that no other movie, besides Titanic, has ever brought in this much money in the U.S. It is safe to say that The Dark Knight has no chance at catching Titanic’s $600.8 million domestic gross, but second place isn’t a bad place to be. As of Sunday, The Dark Knight has brought in $502.4 million.

The Dark Knight - Batman on Batpod Theatrical Banner
Batman and Nightwing Poster by Jim LeeWhile the numbers for the latest Batman film are staggering, they are also a little misleading. If you factor in ticket price inflation or look strictly at the amount of tickets sold, which in my opinion is the most important statistic of them all, The Dark Knight falls down in the rankings significantly. Regardless, grossing over $500 million in the United States alone is a huge achievement and says a lot about the quality of Christopher Nolan’s Batman opus. What's unfortunate is that Heath Ledger is no longer here to appreciate it. I cannot image the pressure now on Warner Brothers, Nolan and Christian Bale to come up with something even more amazing for their third Batman movie. How can you possibly top The Dark Knight!?!

The Dark Knight Villains Revealed

Some exciting news on the upcoming The Dark Knight broke last week and I’ve been really itching to blog about it. For those not interested in knowing some minor spoilers (characters appearing in the movie) for next summer’s Batman Begins sequel, stop reading today’s post immediately.

Heath Ledger as The Joker
Last week the Los Angeles Times published a really exciting article on the villains popping up in 2008’s The Dark Knight. (link) The secretive writer/director of the movie, Christopher Nolan, has been very tight lipped on what characters will be showing up and even what characters certain actors will be playing in the movie. As most are aware Heath Ledger is playing The Joker, but what most don’t know, according to the Nolan quote given to the LA Times, is that “The Joker, he sort of cuts through the film -- he's got no story arc, he's just a force of nature tearing through. Heath has given an amazing performance in the role, it's really extraordinary." (link)

Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent
Two-FaceIn fact, the real focus of the story is Aaron Eckhart’s (Thank You For Smoking, No Reservations) character Harvey Dent. Dent is a very tragic figure in the Batman mythology. As a former District Attorney and ally to Batman, Dent is horribly disfigured when a vile of acid is dumped on half of his face while conducting a trial. The incident leaves Dent with a dual personality and he subsequently adopts the alter-ego of Two-Face, becoming one of Batman’s biggest adversaries. The character’s trademark is choosing to do good or evil based upon the flipping of a coin.

Two-FaceThe character of Harvey Dent has showed up in the modern day Batman movies twice previously, once portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in 1989’s Batman and once by Tommy Lee Jones in 1995’s horrible Batman Forever. According to Nolan, "Harvey Dent is a tragic figure, and his story is the backbone of this film.” (link) While it’s been known for many months now that Eckhart would be playing Dent in The Dark Knight, there had been rumors that his role, similarly to Billy Dee Williams, would only be that of Harvey Dent. According to this report though, it can be confirmed that at some point in the movie Eckhart will make the transformation into feared villain Two-Face. This is pretty exciting news for me as the only other live incarnation of this great villain was in Batman Forever and Jones’ portrayal of this twisted psycho was played pretty much just for laughs. Then again all of Batman Forever was played for humor so Jones can’t really be faulted for his performance. But with Nolan’s realistic vision, I am expecting a much more faithful adaptation of this long time Batman villain.

Cillian Murphy as The ScarecrowAnother rumor that has been circulating for months is that Cillian Murphy, who played Dr. Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow in Batman Begins, was seen on The Dark Knight set. The LA Times article finally confirms that Murphy will be reprising his role as the Scarecrow. Cillian was really great in his portrayal of the unhinged psychiatrist and I’m glad to hear he’ll be returning to the role he originated on the big screen, even if it’s just in a limited cameo.

Batman on the new Batpod
The last line in the article really puts any fears and reservations I have about the upcoming movie at ease and pushes the memory of Batman Begins to the deepest recesses of my mind. The article states, “Don't expect a lot laughs in this summer's return to the cave. ‘It's a dark and complex story,’ Nolan said, ‘and the villains are dark and complex as well.’" Just as they should be! Sounds like music to my ears.

Two New The Dark Knight Promo Posters Hit The Web

New promotional posters for The Dark Knight, the sequel to 2005's Batman Begins, have been released as we inch closer and closer to the movie's summer launch. I just can't get enough of Heath Ledger as The Joker. I was really skeptical of the casting at first, but the more I see of him in the white face paint and stringy hair the more I realize what a genius move it was picking him for the role. I now know I should have never questioned Christopher Nolan's vision.

The Dark Knight
If you haven't heard already or haven't yet seen Will Smith's new movie I Am Legend, the first official trailer for The Dark Knight is being shown before the start of Legend. I've read the trailer will be released for all to see online Monday, and if so I'll do my best to post it at The Blot Says...

The Dark Knight

You can still check out the first The Dark Knight teaser promo poster here, the two new Why So Serious? Joker posters here, and the new trailer being shown before I Am Legend can be found here.

The Dark Knight Returns

The great comic book news site Newsarama.com has revealed the first teaser promo poster for the 2008 new Batman movie The Dark Night.
The Dark KnightIf you haven't seen the leaked photos of Heath Ledger as the Joker then I suggest getting on google and finding some immediately, you won't be disappointed. He looks as freaky and crazy as you would hope the Joker would look like. Trust me, with Christopher Nolan (Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige) directing/writing this movie, this Joker will be nothing like the Jack Nicholson or Cesar Romero Jokers of the past.
