Star Wars: A New Hope “Galactic Journey” Screen Print by Todd Slater x Bottleneck Gallery

Today, Bottleneck Gallery is teaming up with one of The Blot’s favorite artists, Austin’s very own Todd Slater, to release an epic new Star Wars Episode IV art print! As BNG explained, “Todd’s no stranger to Star Wars, as his previous portrait series focused on fun portrait work against psychedelic designs and papers. Continuing that aesthetic exploration of Star Wars, Todd’s newest print is a full-sized alternative movie poster for A New Hope. Combining his excellent portraiture work with distinct patterning and color elements, Todd’s poster for A New Hope is a trippy take on a beloved classic.”

The Blot got super excited yesterday when Todd Slater teased the upcoming release of his new The Mandalorian screen print from Bottleneck Gallery! Now we know all the details surrounding this killer print of Nick Nolte’s beloved Kuiil. As BNG explained, “Season one of The Mandalorian introduced a host of new characters for Star Wars fans to fall in love with, and we’ve teamed up with Todd Slater to pay tribute to one of the series’ most unlikely heroes, Kuiil! Todd’s character portrait of Kuiil’s lovable mug is extremely expressive, and features his catchphrase – which you’ll all be reading in his voice after seeing!”

“Guardian” Screen Print by Todd Slater x BIOWORKZ

“Guardian” Screen Print by Todd Slater x BIOWORKZ

Artists Todd Slater and BIOWORKZ (aka Ben Kwok) have collaborated on a beautiful new poster entitled “Guardian”. It’s a beautiful mash-up of these two amazing artists’ unique styles. As Slater explained about the print, “Rather than have each of us draw half the image we passed the file back and forth and each worked on different passages over the course of several weeks. We are both super stoked with the final image and hope you all like it as well.”

“Guardian” Screen Print by Todd Slater x BIOWORKZ

Ben Kwok went on to say “The process started with Todd creating the basic sketch. We went back and forth for weeks adding our own details. We wanted to incorporate our style more and that’s what we did. Instead of us working on our own sides, we fused the artwork into one.”

The Rock Poster Art of Todd Slater Hardcover Book by The Flood Gallery

The Flood Gallery in London has teamed up with Todd Slater, one of The Blot’s favorite artists, to release The Rock Poster Art of Todd Slater, an oversized hardback book presenting a varied menagerie of Slater’s best work, cataloguing it by year as his style and influences have evolved. The book itself is massive, measuring roughly 13”x10.5”, and featuring 288 pages with a beautiful metallic cover image. If you are a die-hard fan of Todd’s art or have only recently been introduced to his work, this book will walk you through the history of his stunning art bestowed in a luxury tome.

As Slater explained, “Most of the pages show full page representations of my work…no tiny thumbnails. My last count before going to press shows 245 images in all. The remaining pages feature words from many of my talented peers including a pretty hilarious foreword by Rob Jones on how we first met.” Best of all, the first 500 orders purchase at The Flood Gallery will include one of four limited edition signed and numbered 9”x12” Todd Slater mini screen prints, each limited to just 125 pieces.

NYCC 13 Exclusive Voltron Screen Print by Todd Slater

New York Comic Con 2013 Exclusive Voltron Standard Edition Screen Print by Todd Slater

Acid Free Gallery is releasing 10 amazing, officially licensed screen prints exclusively at New York Comic Con 2013, including this killer rainbow blend Voltron design by Todd Slater! The Blot keeps waiting for the big resurgence in Voltron’s popularity but for some reason it never really happens. It’s the one big ‘80s property that hasn’t made a comeback yet. Clearly there’s interest in it though because awesome prints like this one and random Voltron toys continue to be produced. Maybe it just needs another new cartoon to really get things moving since Voltron Force didn't seem to do the trick.

“Voltron” by Todd Slater is an 18”x24” 6 color rainbow blend numbered screen print, with 3 metallic inks and glow in the dark ink! The Standard Edition has a limited edition run size of 150 pieces and will retail for $50. The Holofoil Variant features 5 colors (rainbow blend with metallic and glow in the dark inks), has a limited edition run size of 55 pieces and will retail for $70 each. Both Todd Slater Voltron screen prints can be purchased at the Acid Free Gallery NYCC booth #1779.

Later today Mondo’s bringing back its popular Star Trek: The Original Series Screen Print Series with a stunning design by one of The Blot’s favorite artists, Todd Slater! “The Corbomite Maneuver” is based on the tenth episode of TOS and features the kind of intricate design that’s become a staple of Slater prints. This is a perfect example of Slater’s amazingly detailed work, I just wish he had gone with something like this for his Breaking Bad print.

Breaking Bad Screen Print #15 - Heisenberg by Todd Slater

Breaking Gifs Limited Edition Breaking Bad Screen Prints - Heisenberg by Todd Slater

Heisenberg” by Todd Slater is the fifteenth screen print in the Breaking Bad Alternate Reality Game Series released in honor of the hit AMC television show Breaking Bad’s fifth and final season. Todd Slater is actually one of The Blot’s favorite artists, and I loved this scene from the show’s fifth season, but something about this print just feels off to me. I know a lot of times the artists are hamstrung by the subject they’re given to illustrate, but when I heard Slater was doing a Breaking Bad print I was really hoping for some crazy intricate pattern used to create the image of the feared Heisenberg. Regardless, this print sold out in mere seconds thanks to a reveal by Mr. Jesse Pinkman himself, Aaron Paul and his Twitter account!

Todd Slater’s limited edition Breaking Bad screen print “Heisenberg” measures 18”x24”, has a run size of 300 pieces (only 200 available for purchase) and comes hand signed and numbered by the artist. The print retailed for $50 each and could have been purchased here before it sold out.

To celebrate and honor the fifth and final season of Breaking Bad, 16 of the top artists and graphic designers have been commissioned to create screenprints depicting some of the series' most memorable scenes, characters and shocking moments for Gallery1988 and its Breaking Bad ARG, Breaking Gifs. These screenprints are hand-pulled, each its own individual work of art, in an edition of just 300, with only 200 available to the public through this project. Once the edition is sold out, they will never be printed again.

“1986” & “1987” Video Game Inspired Screen Prints by Todd Slater

“1987” Mega Man Inspired Screen Print by Todd Slater

After the huge success of Todd Slater’s previous The Legend of Zelda inspired screen prints “Overworld” and “Underworld”, Todd realized they were being seen as more than just a promo for an old video game. “For some,” he said on his website, “they were a window to the past, remembering the endless hours facing the same enemies, bosses, and stages over and over again. For others, particularly, people outside the 20-40 age group, the pixel characters meant nothing, but what they saw instead was the intricately woven design.”

“1986” Metroid Inspired Screen Print by Todd Slater

Todd then decided to release two all new video game themed prints, the Metroid inspired “1986” and the Mega Man inspired “1987.” Since both Nintendo games have a sci-fi vibe to them, Todd chose to print both prints entirely on mirrored rainbow foil paper stock. How cool is that!?! These were Slater’s best sellers at Flatstock and probably won't last too long on his online store. So act quickly!

Both “1986” and "1987” are 18”x24” 3 color screen prints. Each print comes signed and numbered by the artist and both prints have a limited edition run size of 100 pieces. You can purchase both of these prints (while supplies last) at ToddSlater.net for $40 each.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind Screen Print by Todd Slater

Close Encounters of the Third Kind Standard Blue Edition Screen Print by Todd Slater

The Blot can’t lie, as much as I love sci-fi movies I’ve never been a huge fan of Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind. But combine Spielberg’s seminal 1977 film with Todd Slater, one of The Blot’s favorite artists, and you end up with an incredible, highly detailed screen print. Just look at all the details Slater put into this one! While I may not care about CE3K, how does anyone pass up purchasing this stunning print?

Close Encounters of the Third Kind Variant Orange Edition Screen Print by Todd Slater

Close Encounters of the Third Kind by Todd Slater is a 24”x36” hand numbered AND signed screen print. The blue standard version has a limited edition run size of 300 pieces and will retail for $40 each, while there are only 70 prints of the orange variant, which will retail for $65. Both go on at the Mondo online store today, Friday, March 11th, at a random time.

The Legend of Zelda Screen Prints by Todd Slater

The Legend of Zelda Screen Prints by Todd Slater - The Overworld

Sadly these amazing new Zelda inspired screen prints by Todd Slater are sold out everywhere, but The Blot still had to blog about them. Originally created for Gallery1988’s “Multiplayer” show, “The Underworld” and “The Overworld” screen prints feature amazing designs composed entirely out of images from Nintendo’s classic video game The Legend of Zelda. When I first saw these prints last week I serious could not stop staring at them…I found myself subconsciously trying to identify every single item used to create the designs.

The Legend of Zelda Screen Prints by Todd Slater - The Underworld

Todd Slater’s amazing The Legend of Zelda inspired 3 color screen prints “The Underworld” and “The Overworld” measure 18”x24”, come signed and numbered, and each have a limited edition run size of 150 pieces. While these prints could originally be purchased directly from Gallery1988 or Todd Slater’s online store for $45 each, all prints are now sold out.

Mondo Star Wars Screen Print Series #5 - Great Warrior by Todd Slater

The fifth screen print in the Mondo Star Wars Screen Print Series was unveiled yesterday and it is entitled “Great Warrior” by Todd Slater! Slater is one of The Blot’s favorite artists, and this screen print of Yoda is amazing in both its intricacies and composition. I love the juxtaposition of the leafy green Yoda and the dark Dagobah swamp behind him. This is definitely THE Star Wars screenprint to get of the five released so far.

Mondo Star Wars Screen Print Series #5 - Great Warrior by Todd Slater
“Great Warrior” by Todd Slater is a hand numbered 17″x24″ screen print with a limited edition run size of 385. Each print retails for $50 and can be purchased directly from Mondo Tees at a random time today, Thursday, August 26th, here.

Slater took some time to explain his Star Wars print: “From the first time that I saw Star Wars, I was captivated by the mystery of Yoda’s species and home world. For Yoda, Dagobah was a place to disappear, and I see him as being at one with the landscape. For this print I wanted to camouflage him as a part of this murky planet using leaves, sticks, ferns and other flora found in the swamps. The image is printed on black paper with a shiny black varnish layer in the background. The varnished layer reveals even more of Dagobah and is shown as a transparency through Yoda’s face. The kanji (japanese characters) on the left side gives one word representations of the six stages I identified in Luke’s Jedi training: the meeting of a great warrior, the discovery of a Jedi’s strength, entering of a domain of evil, learning that size matters not, seeing the future and finally, the confrontation of Vader. The screen print is seven colors, which is the most I’ve done to date.”

Under The Influence: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Art Show

Gallery1988 LA is following up its hugely successful collaboration with ABC, the "Lost Underground Art Project," with a new art exhibit produced in conjunction with Mattel entitled “Under The Influence: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.” For this show, Gallery1988 LA invited 100 different artists (including many from the Lost art show) to reinterpret the influential 80’s toy and cartoon property and I have to say, the results look sick!

Under The Influence: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Exhibit - M.O.T.U.C. by Michael Steele
Under The Influence: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Exhibit - On A Throne of Tyranny by Alex Pardee
MOTU is one of my favorite childhood toy lines, and Mattel is doing an excellent job reviving the property through its MattyCollector.com exclusive line of redesigned action figures. "Under The Influence: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" includes work by Alex Pardee, Todd Slater, Scribe, Eric Tan, Tim Doyle, Dave Perillo, Camilla d’Errico and Dan Goodsell. All of the amazing artwork featured Gallery1988 as a part of “Under The Influence” can be seen here.

Under The Influence: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Exhibit - Fall of Stratus by Brian McCarty
Under The Influence: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Exhibit - Fearless Protector by Eric Tan
Best of all, a few of my favorite MOTU pieces are available for purchase as limited edition prints. Todd Slater’s Skeletor inspired signed and numbered screenprint “Alen Oppenheimer” is 19”x23”, has a run size of 150 and retails for $45. Jeff Boyes’ signed and numbered screenprint “Greyskull” is 18”x24”, has an edition size of 60 and retails for $60. And last but not least, Eric Tan’s Battle Cat inspired lithograph “Fearless Protector” has a signed and numbered run size of 123, is 14”x30” and retails for $70.
