Comic Book Edition The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs 2 Packs

Comic Book Edition The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs 2 Packs by Hasbro - Captain America vs. The Red Skull, The Incredible Hulk vs. The Abomination, Iron Man vs. Iron Monger & Thor vs. Loki

Later this month Hasbro will be releasing a line of The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs 2 packs, featuring Captain America vs. The Red Skull, the Hulk vs. Abomination, Iron Man vs. Iron Monger and Thor vs. Loki. Unlike yesterday’s The Avengers Movie Mini Mighty Muggs, these Hero vs. Villain 2 packs featuring each character’s look from the Marvel comic books.

When Hasbro first announced these 2 packs at SDCC 2012 (originally seen here), The Blot was pretty excited for them. What isn’t there to be excited about, it was Hasbro’s first Mighty Muggs release at retail since 2010’s Iron Man 2 wave. But now that that initial excitement has worn off, I’m a little disappointed that we’re just getting more of the same. In the past year Hasbro has released 2 waves of Marvel Mini Mighty Muggs, and each wave has included Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and the Hulk. Do we really need the same four characters over and over? Even the most diehard of Mighty Muggs fans can’t want three versions of The Avengers’ core members. At least we’re getting Hawkeye and Nick Furry I guess…

Comic Book Edition The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs 2 Packs will hit store shelves later this month and retail for around $16-18 per pack.

The Avengers Movie Mini Mighty Muggs Series 1

The Avengers Movie Mini Mighty Muggs Series 1 - Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, Nick Fury & Hawkeye

The Blot was shocked to learn that not only will Hasbro be releasing a line of The Avengers Movie Mini Mighty Muggs, but they’ll be sold individually and not in 2-packs. The Avengers Mini Muggs Series 1 includes Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye and Nick Fury. While The Blot prefers standard sized Mighty Muggs, I have to say these turned out pretty nice. And at least we got two, never before released characters in this wave. However, I am still holding out hope a comic book edition Hawkeye Mighty Mugg will be released at some point.

Each 3” The Avengers Movie Mini Mighty Mugg features 3 points of articulation and comes packaged individually in a full colored displayable window box. All 6 figures will hit stores later this month, but in the meantime you can pre-order the entire first series from EntertainmentEarth.com for $42.99 here.

NYCC '11 - The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs 2 Packs

The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs 2 Packs - Captain America vs Red Skull & Iron Man vs Iron Monger

When Hasbro announced they would be continuing their Marvel Comics Mini Mighty Muggs toy line The Blot thought it was kind of a joke. 1-2 releases at SDCC and NYCC isn’t really continuing a line when a majority of Mighty Muggs fans can’t get their hands on the figures. So you can imagine my surprise when Hasbro announced at New York Comic-Con 2011 that a new line of Avengers Mini Muggs 2 packs would be seeing a wide release next in conjunction with next summer’s The Avengers live action movie. This is pretty awesome news even if the four heroes are just repaints from last summer’s San Diego Comic-Con 2011 exclusive Avengers box set.

The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs 2 Packs - Thor vs Loki & Hulk vs Abomination

Hasbro will be producing four The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs Sets, with each 2 pack featuring one super hero and one villain. They are Captain America vs Red Skull, Iron Man vs Iron Monger, Thor vs Loki, and Hulk vs the Abomination. I love the idea of each set including an Avenger and their archenemy, I just wish there was a bigger difference between this release and the SDCC box set. The Captain America and Hulk Mini Muggs are almost identical to the previous release. I’ve seen no word yet on when these figures will be hit store shelves, but as soon as I hear something I’ll be sure to post that information here!

NYCC 2011 Exclusive Spider-Man Maximum Carnage Marvel Mini Mighty Muggs Box Set

"Maximum Carnage" was a popular Spider-Man crossover from the early ‘90s, and I can still remember reading those comics as a little kid! To me, this was what comic books is all about and I highly recommend picking up the trade paperback if/when you have the opportunity. You definitely won’t be disappointed!

The Spider-Man Maximum Carnage Marvel Mini Mighty Muggs Collectors Pack retails for $33 and can be purchased from Hasbro’s NYCC booth #302, with any remaining stock made available at HasbroToyShop.com after the convention.

SDCC 2011 Exclusive The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs Boxed Set

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs Set - Hulk, Thor, Giant Man, Iron Man & Captain America

The Blot received some very exciting news today, Hasbro’s Mighty Muggs are back! With no new news in almost a year, I had officially written off the toy line for good. Then yesterday Marvel announced their first San Diego Comic-Con exclusive: The Avengers Special Edition Mini Mighty Muggs Collector's Pack. Just when you think you’re out, Hasbro brings you back in! These figures look amazing, and the only question I have now is who’s picking me up a set in San Diego?

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs Set and Packaging - Hulk, Thor, Giant Man, Iron Man & Captain America

The San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs Collector’s Pack includes five figures in all: 4 Mini Mighty Muggs (Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and Captain America) and a full size Giant Man Mighty Mugg. I really have to hand it to Hasbro on this one, I love everything about this set! From the packaging with Giant Man’s head sticking out of a Mini Mighty Muggs box to the decision to make Giant Man a full size Mighty Mugg, Hasbro did a really great job with this release. Here’s hoping they sell enough of these bad boys to garner future Mini Mighty Muggs releases.

The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs 5 figure set will retail for $34.99 and can be purchased from HasbroToyShop.com’s SDCC booth #3329. According to Marvel, if you can't get your hands on this first set of Marvel Mini Mighty Muggs while at SDCC, there may be a limited amount available through HasbroToyShop.com after the convention. I don’t know what’s more exciting, that Hasbro will releasing some of these figures through its online store or that this is considered the “first set” of Marvel Mini Mighty Muggs (meaning future sets are already in the works!).

Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs vs. Pop! Heroes DC Universe

Has it really been a year and a half since I did my last “vs.” post? Long time readers of The Blot Says… might remember when I wrote up a blog post entitled Mighty Muggs vs. Mez-Itz v s. Mallows comparing the newest super hero themed vinyl figures to hit the market. At the time, most people hadn't seen Mez-Itz or Mallows in person and I thought posting some pics comparing their size and quality to Mighty Muggs would be helpful to collectors interested in ordering some online. Since a lot of people still haven’t seen Funko's new Pop! Heroes vinyl figures in stores yet, I thought I’d do a mini figure “vs.” post comparing them to Hasbro’s Mini Mighty Muggs!

Mini Mighty Muggs vs Pop! Heroes DC Universe - Batman & Boba Fett

As you can tell in these photos, the Pop! Heroes are a good inch, if not more, taller than the Mini Mighty Muggs. The Pop! Heroes figures sculpts are also much more detailed than MMM, which is cool if you really like the characters Funko has made, but makes them not very good platform toys for customizing. On the other hand, Mini Mighty Muggs are everything you loved about Mighty Muggs but smaller. They have 5 points of articulation (versus Pop! Heroes 1 solitary neck joint) and also have a kung-fu grip left hand perfect for holding homemade weapons.

Mini Mighty Muggs vs Pop! Heroes DC Universe - Batman & Boba Fett

To me, Hasbro does a great job with both sizes of Mighty Muggs. The paint job on each figure is clean and the over-all quality control of these Mini Mighty Muggs is great. Funko however, still needs to refine their QC as the paint applications could be much crisper. As I mentioned previously, I am also not a big fan of how these Pop! Heroes figures’ heads are connected to their body. But they are definitely superior to the vinyl dreck DC Direct put out last year (Uni-Formz and Blammoids! specifically).

Mini Mighty Muggs vs Pop! Heroes DC Universe - Hellboy, Batman, Boba Fett & Shockwave

Ultimately, both lines of mini figures are a great size for display and have great price points for collectors on a budget! I will definitely be buying more Pop! Heroes DC Universe and Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs in the future.

Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs Toy Review

The Blot was randomly in Target last night and stumbled upon my very first sighting of Hasbro’s all new 3” Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs! The store had all three 3 packs in stock, and of course I couldn’t resist picking up the Boba Fett, IG-88 and Bossk set. To my surprise, these really are just miniature versions of Hasbro’s standard Mighty Muggs. They’re almost identical to the original Mighty Muggs toy line in every way, although there have been some color changes made to the Boba Fett figure. I’ve included a picture below of the original Boba Fett Mighty Mugg with his 3” counterpart for scale comparison.

Boba Fett Mini Mighty Mugg and Boba Fett Mighty Mugg

I haven’t heard much about these Mini Mighty Muggs yet, but I actually like these little guys a whole lot more than I thought I would. It doesn't hurt that I’ve been wanting an IG-88 Mighty Mugg to be produced since the toy line started a few years ago. The only complaint I have about these figures is the shoddy paint job. The quality control on these figures is definitely a step down from the original Mighty Muggs line, as all three of my characters had defects in their paint.

I was also disappointed to learn the blasters in their hands could not be removed, but at least each figure has their own unique gun. I’m not sure why Hasbro decided to produce the figures’ guns and right arms as one piece, but at least this way you’ll never lose the figures' weapons. My guess is it was done to remove all loose parts from the toy line so it could be marketed to a younger demographic, which also explains why the box states these Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs are for Ages 3+.

All in all, The Blot’s really just happy to see Hasbro’s Mighty Muggs toy line continue, even if it is in a 3 inch form. Here’s hoping we see Marvel, G.I. Joe and Transformers Mini Mighty Muggs released sometime soon!

Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs 3 packs are sold exclusively at Target for $12.99. Along with the Boba Fett, IG-88 and Bossk 3 pack, there is also a 3 pack including Yoda, Darth Vader and a Stormtrooper, and a 3 pack including Captain Rex, General Grievous and Cad Bane.

UPDATE: Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs 3 Packs

This past weekend Star Wars Celebration V took place in Orlando, Florida. On Saturday, there was a huge Hasbro panel where all things Star Wars toys were discussed, including its new line of Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs! They only discussed these pintsized Mighty Muggs for a few seconds, but we now know all we need to about their upcoming release.

First Look: Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs

The first photos from San Diego Comic-Con 2010 are already starting to come in and this news even surprised The Blot. Hasbro has on display a brand new line of Mini Star Wars Mighty Muggs! These never before seen Star Wars Mini Muggs are marked as exclusives will go on sale October 1, 2010.

UPDATE: Thanks to reader Chris, we now know it was announced at Hasbro's SDCC panel that these Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs are a Target Exclusive and will be sold as 3-packs for $12.99. Very interesting news!

FIRST LOOK: Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs - Stormtrooper, Darth Vader & Yoda Vinyl Figures
I’m not exactly sure how tall these Mini Muggs are, but it’s kind of disappointing to learn we’re getting less Muggs for the same price! It looks like there are three assortments of Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs Wave 1. The first includes a Stormtrooper, Darth Vader and Yoda.

FIRST LOOK: Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs - Bossk, Boba Fett, Cad Bane, IG-88, Captain Rex & General Grievous Vinyl Figures
The Blot has entitled Star Wars Mini Mighty Muggs Wave 2 the Bounty Hunter Wave! This is because it includes bounty hunters Bossk, Boba Fett and Cad Bane. Assortment three includes IG-88, Captain Rex and General Grievous. Thanks to Stay tuned for more details as they become available!
