GID Green Lantern DC Universe Pop! Heroes Vinyl Figure Toy Review

When Funko’s DC Universe Pop! Heroes Vinyl Figures made its unexpected debut at San Diego Comic-Con 2010, the toy line was originally called Funko Force 2.0 and included four unannounced SDCC exclusives: a blue and grey Batman, a metallic blue and grey Batman, a black Batgirl and a glow-in-the-dark Green Lantern. And let’s just be honest, the GID Green Lantern Pop! Heroes vinyl figure seen below is hands down the coolest figure in the entire toy line!

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 Exclusive Glow in the Dark Green Lantern DC Universe Pop! Heroes Vinyl Figure

The GID Green Lantern figure is also the rarest figure in the Pop! Heroes toy line with a limited edition run size of just 240 pieces. The Blot’s been searching for one of these awesome glow in the dark figures since I first saw pics of it the weekend of SDCC, but everyone said they sold out at the con. Worst of all, these have been selling on eBay for over $40, which was way more than I wanted to spend.

Thankfully, Funko had a secret stash of GID Green Lantern figures back at the warehouse and have re-released them in the updated Pop! Heroes packaging (which is far superior to the toy line’s original packaging seen here). Now you too can own a GID Green Lantern for just $13. Collectors can head to Gemini Collectibles to purchase one of these cute super heroes today!

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 Exclusive Glow in the Dark Green Lantern DC Universe Pop! Heroes Vinyl Figure

And if you couldn’t tell before, I love this figure! There’s not much to the Green Lantern mold, but this power glow version of Hal Jordan looks awesome. What’s even better is this figure doesn’t have the same issue with its 1 point of articulation as my Batman Pop! Heroes figure. Unlike Batman’s white plastic, Green Lantern’s neck joint is made from glow in the dark green plastic so it doesn’t stand out at all.

In my opinion, this is the best Pop! Heroes DC Universe vinyl figure released to date, but it’s also the hardest to find. My suggestion is to grab one as soon as possible, because these are going to be impossible to find once 2011 turns into the year of Green Lantern with the release of the Emerald Warrior’s live action movie, new animated series and tons of new toy lines.

Blue and Gray Batman DC Universe Pop! Heroes Vinyl Figure Toy Review

When Funko’s Pop! Heroes DC Universe vinyl figures made their unexpected debut at San Diego Comic-Con 2010, the toy line was originally called Funko Force 2.0 and included four unannounced SDCC exclusives: a blue and grey Batman, a metallic blue and grey Batman, a black Batgirl and a glow-in-the-dark Green Lantern. The Blot’s always preferred his Batman blue and grey, so I knew right away I had to have one of these SDCC exclusive colorways.

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 Exclusive Blue and Gray Batman DC Universe Pop! Heroes Vinyl Figure

Sadly, reports from San Diego said all of Funko’s SDCC Exclusive Pop! Heroes figures sold out over the weekend.  Finally after months of searching, I stumbled upon Gemini Collectibles and my Funko dreams came true! Gemini Collectibles had all four SDCC exclusives in stock and at reasonable prices to boot. Now you too can own a blue and grey Batman (limited edition of 480) and for just $15!

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 Exclusive Blue and Gray Batman DC Universe Pop! Heroes Vinyl Figure

As for the figure itself, I really like it. For a mini-figure the mold is surprisingly detailed (check out the spikes on the back of Batman’s gloves) and I was glad to see Batman have a legitimate cape attached to his body. The fact that these Pop! Heroes only have 1 point of articulation at the neck doesn’t bother me, but I do have one issue: the head’s joint!

It’s not as noticeable from the front, but from the right angle (or from the back) you can see the bright white pole Batman’s head sits on. Why they didn’t paint this joint blue or skin colored is beyond me, because it's bright white color really makes it stand out in a bad way. The Blot’s also not a huge fan of this figure’s packaging, but thankfully neither was Funko. The packaging has since been changed to a box similar to the Mighty Muggs packaging. Even with its faults, these Pop! Heroes are a steal for $7-15, and proabably the best DC Comics mini-figures I've ever seen.

SDCC Sneak Peek - Kidrobot Dunny Series 2010

Kidrobot had seven different figures from their upcoming Dunny Series 2010 on display at San Diego Comic-Con 2010, and they look even better in 3D than they did as drawings on the previously leaked checklist. Included in the display were designs by MAD, Frank Kozik, Jesse Hernandez, MCA, Triclops, Damarak the Destroyer and Amanda Visell.

Green Lantern Teaser Character Movie Posters

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 is over, but that doesn’t mean Comic-Con related news will stop. This past weekend DC Comics and Warner Bros. debuted the first set of teaser one sheet character movie posters for their upcoming live action Green Lantern film. In The Blot’s honest opinion...these posters rock!

Green Lantern Teaser Character Movie Poster Set - Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern
Green Lantern Teaser Character Movie Poster Set - Blake Lively as Carol Ferris
I love how these theatrical one sheets fit together to form the outline of the Green Lantern logo and each poster includes a different stanza of the Green Lantern Corps’ oath: “In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight, let those who worship evil's might, beware my power... Green Lantern's light!” They also do a bit of foreshadowing with the Hector Hammond theatrical one sheet featuring a slightly yellow outline.

Green Lantern Teaser Character Movie Poster Set - Mark Strong as Sinestro
Green Lantern Teaser Character Movie Poster Set - Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond
Green Lantern is scheduled to premiere in theaters on June 17th, 2011 and stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, Mark Strong as Sinestro, Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond, Temuera Morrison as Abin Sur, Tim Robbins as Senator Hammond and Angela Bassett as Dr. Amanda Waller.

SDCC 2010 Exclusive GID Skullhead 8 Inch Dunny by Huck Gee

If you haven’t heard by now, this year's San Diego Comic-Con exclusive 8” Dunny from Kidrobot was a Glow in the Dark Skullhead by Huck Gee! From the photos The Blot’s seen the figure looks pretty awesome (although I’ve heard a lot of complaints about the figure’s paintjob). Regardless, I love the figure’s head and wings and wish I could have been at SDCC to snag one.

If you’re like The Blot and weren’t able to attend Comic-Con this year (and refuse to pay flipper prices), fear not...there will be a 2nd colorway released soon with a much larger run size. No news yet on what this non-SDCC exclusive Skullhead Dunny will look like, but if the packaging is any indication it’ll be a red Skullhead.

SDCC 10 - Mattel AttiTUBES Vinyl Figures

For the second straight year, Mattel has had samples of a potential new line of designer vinyl figures entitled AttiTUBES on display at San Diego Comic-Con. Again this year, Mattel prototypes of this new platform toy on display, including a blank AttiTubes figure, two generic spacemen, a Mattel kid and three characters from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Orko, Mer-Man and Leech.

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 - Mattel AttiTUBES Vinyl Figures
While these figures look great, what really got The Blot excited was the mock-up drawings of other potential characters seen in the background! Along with a generic professor/scientist and an unknown superhero, Mattel had designs posted for Batman, Red Tornado, He-Man and Skeletor AttiTUBES vinyl figures. How cool is that?

While He-Man and Skeletor would obviously be included in any line of MOTU AttiTUBES, I assumed any plans for a DC Comics line were scrapped once Warner Bros. announced its licensing deal with Mezco Toyz. To me, these AttiTUBES figures are way too similar to Mezco’s line of Mez-Itz vinyl figures to release DC Universe figures in both platforms. Then again, maybe AttiTUBES will be marketed towards young children, while the Mez-Itz line is going after adult collectors.

Click here to see photos of the AttiTUBES vinyl figures Mattel had on display at San Diego Comic-Con 2009.

This weekend at San Diego Comic-Con 2010, Marvel Comics will be giving away two exclusive mini one sheet movie posters featuring concept artwork from their upcoming movies Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger! Both mini one sheet theatrical posters look beautiful, don’t they? The Blot just hopes the movies can look even half as good as these SDCC posters.
