Watchmen Screen Print by Jason Raish x Bottleneck Gallery

Watchmen x Jordan Brand Custom Sneaker Collection Part 1 by Sekure D

One of The Blot’s highlights of Designer Con 2012 was meeting Australian artist Sekure D! While I’d been familiar with his amazing custom work for a while, I had no idea he was as huge of a comic book fan as I am. We talked a lot of comics that day, and I could definitely feel the passion Sekure D has for Alan Moore’s seminal work, the hit DC Comics maxi-series Watchmen. So it should have come as no surprise that he’s been working on an amazing series of custom Watchmen Air Jordan sneakers!

It’s been a really long time since I’ve featured custom sneakers here on TheBlotSays.com, but the minute I saw these amazing sneakers I knew I had to blog about them ASAP! Sekure D’s Watchmen x Air Jordan capsule is an ongoing project that features different Air Jordan sneakers customized in honor of a different Watchmen character. Three designs have already been released and are currently sold out: Rorschach Air Jordan IV sneakers, Comedian Air Jordan VI sneakers and Dr. Manhattan Air Jordan IV sneakers.

But for those of you interested in getting a pair, Sekure D’s newest Watchmen custom sneakers are these beautiful purple and gold Ozymandias Air Jordan VII sneakers, which were released earlier this month via Sekure D’s online store and are still available in select sizes. Watchmen Pop! Vinyl Figures Series 1 by Funko

Funko has released official photos of their new Watchmen Pop! vinyl figures and they look fantastic! It’s amazing how much a little paint can make figures look even better. The blue vinyl for the Dr. Manhattan Pop! looks spot on, and I’ve heard that it’s glow in the dark!!! How perfect is that? It’s probably the first time GID vinyl has been used for a character that actually glows in the DC comics and movies. And The Blot can’t say enough good things about the Rorschach Pop! It’s spot on and I can’t wait to order one.

Each Watchmen Pop! Movies Series 1 vinyl figure by Funko features one point of articulation, stands 3.75” tall, and comes packaged in a full color displayable window box. Gemini Collectibles is at it once again, this time giving the world its first look at the soon to be released Dr. Manhattan Watchman Pop! Movies vinyl figure by Funko! Dr. Manhattan combined with the Rorschach figure we saw last week forms a killer wave of Watchmen Pop! I’m just glad to see Dr. Manhattan will be wearing underwear and not letting it all hang out like in the movie and DC comics. The Blot just hopes there will be more Watchman Pop figures announced sometime soon.

The Blot loves it when the good folks at Gemini Collectibles put up for sale new prototype figures of unannounced Pop! vinyl figure! Earlier this week they added these two awesome Rorschach Pop protos from Funko’s soon to be released Watchman Pop! Movies Wave. Since Rorschach is the unofficial super hero of TheBlotSays.com you know I’m about this released (whenever it happens). Here’s hoping we at least get all six main characters from DC Comics’ Watchman movie/comic book series.

Watchmen “Nothing Ever Ends” Screen Print by Anthony Petrie

The Blot is so ticked I missed out on this awesome Watchmen screen print by Anthony Petrie!!!! It was released last month as part of Bottleneck Gallery’s “The Gang Is All Here” group art show, an exhibit dedicated to the art industry's legendary cliques, groups, buds, and gangs. There are so many things about Petrie’s design I love, including the layered clockwork pieces in the background.

But where he really killed it is with the clock in the middle, split into pies highlighting the six main characters of DC Comics’ seminal comic book series Watchmen (notice I didn’t call it a graphic novel). Petrie gave each hero their own specific background and the entire image is covered with a top layer you can see in the picture above, which was printed in glow in the ink! I’m just drooling looking at this image now.

“Nothing Ever Ends” by Anthony Petrie is a 5 color, 18”x24” Watchmen signed and numbered screen print with glow in the dark ink. It has a limited edition run size of 100 pieces and originally retailed for just $25!

Watchmen Symbol T-Shirt Series by Graphitti Designs

In conjunction with DC Comics’ Before Watchmen prequel event, Graphitti Designs has released this killer line of Watchmen logo t-shirts. Each design features a different character’s symbol, including Dr. Manhattan’s logo, The Comedian’s blood splattered smiley face button, and three different Rorschach mask designs. Obviously The Blot is especially fond of the Rorschach t-shirts since they hit so close to home. My only question is how did they decide to only release 3 Rorschach designs? I need at least a different one for each day of the week.

Loyal K.N.G. Spring 2011 T-Shirt Collection

The Blot has been anxiously awaiting the online release of Loyal K.N.G.’s Spring 2011 T-Shirt Collection ever since teaser images of its designs first hit the web weeks ago. Like The Blot, the Loyal K.N.G. crew is crazy about pop culture and it really shows in all of their clothing. What makes this collection extra special is how heavily influenced it is by comic books (and DC Comics at that). In fact, three of the collection’s eight designs pay homage to iconic DC comics Superman, Batman and The Watchmen.

The Loyal K.N.G. Spring 2011 Collection also features some killer pop culture mash-ups. “Final Tales” features some of Loyal K.N.G.’s favorite childhood fairy tales into one crazy design. They’ve taken the three little pigs, little red riding hood and the big bad wolf and re-imagined them as if they were characters in the classic video game Final Fantasy. “Bat Luchadora” combines video game Bomber-man with Batman (and Bane), and features a killer lucha libre themed design. Sucker Punch Screen Print by Ken Taylor

Mondo announced its third Director Series yesterday, and it’ll feature the films of none other than Zack Snyder. And to kick things off, Mondo commissioned Ken Taylor to design this awesome screen print for Snyder’s newest film, Sucker Punch (which also happens to debut in theaters today). How cool is this Zack Snyder Director Series going to be? Mondo has already confirmed screen prints for 300, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead and Legend of the Guardians are in the works. The Blot doesn’t know who’s designing the Watchmen print, but I hope it’s killer!

Sucker Punch by Ken Taylor is a 24”x36” hand numbered screen print. The blue standard version has a limited edition run size of 285 pieces and will retail for $45 each, while there are 105 prints of the brown variant, which will retail for $75. Both go on sale at the Mondo online store today, Friday, March 25th, at a random time.

Watchmen Mez-Itz Series 1 by Mezco Toyz

Yes, you read that right. Mezco Toyz has a new line of Mez-Itz vinyl figures based on the film adaptation of Alan Moore’s critically acclaimed graphic novel Watchmen in the works! I have no idea how Mezco acquired this licensing deal with DC Comics, but it’s pretty exciting that they did. Watchmen Mez-Itz Series 1 features Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan as you’ve never seen them before, as chunky cute designer vinyl figures.


Each Watchmen Mez-Itz stands 6 inches tall and can be pre-ordered as a two figure set from EntertainmentEarth.com for $21.99 here. These Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan Mez-Itz vinyl figures are expected to start showing up in retail locations worldwide sometime in June 2010. It’s begining to look like the summer of 2010 is going to be a very busy time for Mezco Toyz and its fans!

Watchmen “The End Is Nigh” 100% and 400% Be@rbrick Set

It appears we have another Medicom Toy x DC Comics limited edition Japan exclusive 400% Be@rbrick on our hands. First came the 400% Why So Serious? The Dark Knight Be@rbrick and now we have an all new Watchmen 100% and 400% Be@rbrick set. Medicom did a really great job incorporating different aspects of the comic book/movie on to their classic Be@rbrick platform.


The front of the two figures resemble The Comedian’s blood splattered yellow smiley face pin with the words “The End Is Nigh” (a tribute to the sandwich board carried by a mysterious person throughout the book/movie) written on its stomach. The back features the classic yellow Watchmen title with a black background. I know the Watchmen movie wasn’t for everyone but I loved it, and this soon to be released Be@rbrick set is an excellent way to pay tribute to an amazing comic book series.

The Medicom x DC Comics Watchmen "The End Is Nigh" 100% & 400% Be@rbrick set will be available in select Japanese stores and online to residents of Japan sometime during May of 2009. The Watchmen Be@rbrick two figure set will retail for around $70.

Who’s Watched The Watchmen?

Watchmen finally debuted in theaters across the country (and maybe the world?) last night at midnight, but due to some unforeseen circumstances The Blot won’t be able to see it until Sunday at the earliest. So, who out there has seen it and what did you think!?! Reviews of Watchmen are so mixed I have no idea what to expect. It’s weird, many of the websites I follow on a daily basis have all given it good to glowing reviews, but the more traditional news outlets seem to be grading it much lower. I think Time’s Richard Corliss has the best explanation for this. He reasons that “maybe Watchmen is one of those cult films that doesn't expand beyond the true believers. It probably won't make even alternative movie history.” (link)

I don’t know if that last part is a fair critique or not, but I’m really interested in finding out what people who were not already fans of the Watchmen graphic novel think of the movie. I guess we’ll get a better idea of the movie’s appeal to the country’s movie going public when its opening weekend numbers are finally tallied.
