Shin-Cookiezilla Resin Figure by Gabriel Marquez x Bottleneck Gallery

SDCC 2019 Sesame Street 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Prints

Sesame Street is heading to San Diego Comic-Con this year to celebrate the iconic children’s television show’s 50th anniversary! There will be three Sesame Street panels throughout the week, including “A Conversation with Sonia Manzano”, “Sesame Street Puppets Live”, and “Sesame Street's 50th Anniversary Panel”. Yesterday, UNIQLO released its second KAWS Sesame Street Apparel Collection, which includes these awesome KAWS Sesame Street plush dolls! The KAWS x Sesame Street x UT T-Shirt Collection will go on sale at the Uniqlo online store at 9pm EDT on Thursday, June 28th, and in select Uniqlo stores on Friday, Jun 29th. Medicom has teamed up with Sesame Street to release these adorable officially licensed Be@rbricks of everyone’s favorite Muppet monsters, Elmo and Cookie Monster! The Elmo 100% Be@rbrick was included in Medicom’s Be@rbrick Series 32 blind box release, with the Cookie Monster 100% Be@rbrick as a mystery chase variant.

Sesame Street Pop! Vinyl Figures by Funko

Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street? The Sesame Street gang played a huge part in The Blot’s early years, and I love seeing how much my little boys already love all the furry little Muppets on PBS. That being said, I will never understand kids’ obsession with Elmo! Thankfully, he’s missing from Funko’s first series of Sesame Street Pop! vinyl figures. Sesame Street Series 1 includes Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch, Bert, Ernie, Super Grover and Mr. Snuffleupagus (aka Snuffy), which is a supersized 6” Pop.

Each Sesame Street Pop! vinyl figure stands 3.75”, features one point of articulation and come packaged in a full color displayable window box. While these Sesame Street figures aren’t expected to hit store shelves until June 2015, you can pre-order them now from Entertainment Earth for $9.99 each here (the 6” Snuffy Pop retails for $14.99).

“30 Days of Jerk” Pop Culture Painting Series by Jerkface

New York artist Jerkface recently completed his epic “30 Days of Jerk” painting series. For 30 straight days throughout December and January Jerkface painted a different pop culture inspired painting. While the idea of doing a 30 day run of artwork is not original, Jerkface’s goal was to bring a fun and creative take on some legendary cartoon and comic strip characters. And boy did he! Every day The Blot made sure to visit Jerkface’s Instagram account to find out which character he used.

What’s great about “30 Days of Jerk” is how Jerkface integrated his signature Jerks into paintings with beloved characters like Oscar the Grouch, Richie Rich, Spongebob Squarepants, Futurama’s Bender, Garfield and Family Guy’s Stewie. Jerkface serious cherry picked some of the greatest characters from television cartoons, comic strips, comic books and Sesame Street. Each painting carries the same theme, and yet is so different. I’m especially blown away by Jerkface’s line work! I can’t believe how tight each painting is considering they’re painted with a brush.

Each “30 Days of Jerk” release is a 12”x12” acrylic on 1.5” canvas painting, and sold for just $300 through Jerkface’s online store. While all 30 are sold out, Jerkface is currently revisiting his most popular designs and releasing them as ultra limited edition prints! So far Jerkface has released 6 prints, each with super small run sizes of 6 or 3 pieces. These prints measure 13”x13” (including a 1” boarder), come signed and numbered, and retail for $100. Threadless “Pop Culture” Soda Can T-Shirt

This newest pop culture inspired design by Threadless definitely puts the “pop” in soda pop! As you can tell, "Pop Culture" takes the minimalistic design craze that is sweeping the nation and applies it to coke cans (or beer cans depending on your preference). Each minimalistic designed can represents a key figure in pop culture. I would have liked this t-shirt a whole lot more if I hadn’t seen a million different versions of it over the past 6 months, but that’s also probably why the shirt got printed in the first place. They’re all fairly easy to identify, except maybe the first two. Although once you read who they are you’ll see it right away.

“Of Fur and Felt” Muppet Screen Print Set by Rhys Cooper

Nakatomi has just released for pre-sale a crazy three print set entitled “Of Fur and Felt” by Rhys Cooper. Each print features a different Muppet from Sesame Street and The Muppets (Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster and Animal) as if they really exited in the wild. Not only did Cooper come up with some awesome reinterpretations of my favorite Jim Henson creations, but I really love all the little details like the text at the bottom of each print and the inclusion of Oscar’s pet worm Slimey. Rhys even came up with an intricate back story for these prints which you can read below.

The “Of Fur and Felt” Muppet Screen Print Set by Rhys Cooper includes three 16”×20” six color screen prints: “Animalus Wyldapsychosis,” “Monsterous Cookiebanditous” and “Oscarvorus Grouchamaximus.” Each full set ordered will also include a 3 piece mini-print set of “original field-sketched drawings,” printed with metallic charcoal ink. “The Study of Species in the Field of those Rare, Wonderful, Fur & Felt.

Professor J. Maury was a rare breed of man- a rugged explorer, a learned biologist, and most importantly- an exacting artist. His field studies of the varied fauna that he discovered on his journeys delighted and amazed readers of the scientific journals of the time, and provided fodder for the “Penny Dreadfuls” and children’s books. Professor Maury rose to almost super-star acclaim, though, after his discovery of the Sesame Islands and the completely unique creatures that populated them. These brand new plants and animals appeared to develop completely on their own evolutionary course, isolated from any of the seven continents. In retrospect, one must consider the veracity of some of Maury’s claims- that of a “shaggy, earless, tuskless, mammoth’” that was invisible until believed in, and singing fruits and vegetables that wanted to teach him about local hygiene customs. The scientific establishment would have easily laughed these new discoveries off, if it weren’t for the Professor’s previously unshakable reputation and the curiously colored pelts that he produced upon arriving back from his travels. He returned with pelts of shaggy green, the most unnatural blue, and even an impossibly two-headed purple pelt.

The real tragedy of Professor Maury’s story, however, is that the location of the islands was a closely guarded secret, and all records of the exact directions were lost. Many an evolutionary scholar begged him to reveal the coordinates, and even his contemporary, Charles Darwin was overheard visiting Prof. Maury on his deathbed, whispering into his ear: “Can you tell me how to get…how to get to the Sesame Islands?”

The lasting legacy of Professor Maury is his amazing field studies of the wildlife he found there, and Rhys Cooper has adapted these drawings in a series of silkscreened prints for Nakatomi available now for pre-order!
