Justice League Unlimited Screen Print by Dave Perillo x Grey Matter Art

Justice League Unlimited Screen Print by Dave Perillo x Grey Matter Art

The Blot’s jaw hit the ground yesterday when I learned Grey Matter Art had teamed up with artist Dave Perillo to produce an officially licensed screen print for the iconic DC Comics animated series, Justice League Unlimited!!! JLU was a direct sequel to the Justice League animated series, and focused on the majority of the DC Universe. With this release, Dave showcases some of DC’s most iconic characters displayed in their classic animated form. This poster has some of The Blot’s all time favorite characters – Booster Gold, Fire, Ice, Captain Atom, Vixen, Hawk and Dove – making it a must get for sure! The Blot’s always wanted a screen print with Booster in it and it’s finally here!

JLU Fan-Demanded Collection 7 Pack

Justice League Unlimited Fan-Demanded 7 Pack - Dr. Mid-Nite, Gypsy, Speedy, The Creeper, Crimson Avenger, Johnny Thunder and his Thunderbolt.

This is the week Justice League Unlimited fans have been waiting for and dreading, all at the same time. Finally Mattel has released the “collection completing” JLU Fan-Demanded Collection 7 pack, which comes stocked with the last of the card carrying members of DC Comics' animated Justice League. But with this exciting release comes the realization that Mattel’s JLU action figure toy line has finally reached its official end (well, maybe). While I never all that into the JLU cartoon, its action figures have been my favorite toy line of the past 5-10 years. I am definitely going to be sad to see this one come to an end!

The Justice League Unlimited Fan-Demanded Collection 7 pack includes Dr. Mid-Nite, Gypsy, Speedy, The Creeper, Crimson Avenger, and Johnny Thunder and his Thunderbolt. This impressive 7 pack is currently available for purchase from MattyCollector.com for $55 each. Get them while you can!

The Complete Booster Gold Toy Collection

The Blot's Booster Gold Toy Collection
Click on the photo above for a more detailed look
As The Blot counts down to Booster Gold’s world television debut in this Friday’s episode of Smallville (appropriately entitled “Booster”), I thought I’d share a photo of my Booster Gold toy collection. The Blot’s proud to say I own every Booster Gold figure ever produced, and here they all are in one fabulous group shot.

To be honest, owning every Booster Gold figure is not quite the same accomplishment if say I collected Superman or Batman figures. With the amount of toys made of DC Comics’ A-list characters over the past 80 years, it’d be nearly impossible to have a complete collection. I guess that’s just one of the few perks to having your favorite character be a C-list hero. That and none of these figures are all that rare (except maybe the Walmart Exclusive DCU Infinite Heroes action figure in the middle).

For those interested, here’s a key to the Booster Gold figures you see in the photograph above (from left to right): Lead Figure by Eaglemoss Publications, 52 action figure by DC Direct, Heroclix figure, JLU action figure, DC Universe Classics action figure, DC Universe Infinite Heroes action figure, Minimates action figure, DC Universe Infinite Heroes action figure, JLU action figure, JLI action figure by DC Direct, and two more Heroclix figures.

MattyCollector.com Exclusive Lobo JLU Action Figure

It seems like fans have been clamoring for a Lobo JLU action figure ever since the Justice League Unlimited toy line first debuted back in 2003. Thankfully, Mattel has finally given in to its fans’ requests and will be releasing an animated version of the DC Comics character this summer. Sadly, this will be the last MattyCollector.com exclusive JLU release. But don’t worry, news has already leaked that Target has committed to carrying the JLU toy line exclusively through at least the end of 2010.

This mega-strong, mega-mean intergalactic mercenary arrives here on Earth thanks to mega-fan demand! The “Main Man” himself is faithfully sculpted in the much sought-after Justice League Unlimited animated television series style. Larger than other figures in the JLU toy line, this big, bad biker comes on an equally big blister card!

MattyCollector.com Exclusive Justice Guild JLU 4 Pack

While Mattel’s JLU line of action figures will continue as Target exclusives, the soon to be released Justice Guild 4 pack will be MattyCollector.com’s final JLU exclusive 4-pack. The Blot’s not exactly sure how Mattel decided to make the Justice Guild over more established DC heroes and villains, but it is nice to see characters created specifically for the JLU cartoon like the Green Guardsman, Black Siren, Tom Turbine & The Streak produced as action figures.

MattyCollector.com Exclusive Justice Guild JLU 4 Pack – Green Guardsman, Black Siren, Tom Turbine & The Streak Action Figures
For those of you not familiar with the Justice Guild, in the classic episode “Legends,” from season 1 of the hit TV series Justice League Unlimited, it was revealed the team helped to inspire Jon Stewart and the other heroes of the Justice League to become the team they are today. The Justice Guild 4 pack will go on sale February 15, 2009 exclusive at MattyCollector.com for $30.

B’wana Beast: DC Comic’s Next Big Superstar?

Showcase #66 Cover Artwork - The First Appearance of B'wana BeastThe Blot’s been meaning to talk about this for a while now, but when did DC’s B’wana Beast become a major player in the DC Universe? My guess is that unless you were a hardcore DC Comics fan, you had probably never even heard of the Africa based super hero until his appearances in the animated television shows Justice League Unlimited and Batman: The Brave and The Bold. While the character has been around since 1967, he’s only showed up sporadically in comics such as Crisis on Infinite Earths, Swamp Thing, and Animal Man.

B’wana Beast was actually killed off in the early 90’s but his protégé, Freedom Beast, was up until recently fighting crime as a member of the Global Guardians, sporting B’wana Beast’s signature headdress. That was until he too was killed a few months ago in Justice League: Cry for Justice #1. So what does that mean for the B’wana Beast legacy? The Blot has no idea, but for some reason DC and Mattel believe there’s a growing sentiment to bring back this classic D-list superhero. How else can you explain four, yes FOUR, different B’wana Beast action figures being produced in 2009-2010!?!

Justice League Unlimited B'wana Beast Action Figure
I know, it’s crazy right? There are popular DC characters that are lucky if they get one JLU or DC Universe Classics figure, but B’wana Beast, off his two cartoon appearances, is getting a figure in each and every toy line Mattel produces. Already out is the impossible to find JLU B’wana Beast action figure (see above) that was included in the JLU: Legends of the League 6-pack. In stores now is the Batman: The Brave and The Bold Action League B’wana Beast figure, which comes packaged with a standard Batman figure (see below).

Batman The Brave and The Bold Action League B'wana Beast & Batman Figures
Coming very soon is the online exclusive DC Universe Classics 6” B’wana Beast action figure that will only be available in the Animal Instincts 2-pack, which also includes an Animal Man figure. I really dig this 2-pack because it actually ties in to a former Animal Man/B’wana Beast storyline that ran in the first couple of issues of the ongoing Animal Man series from the early 90’s. The MattyCollector.com exclusive Animal Instinct 2-pack will go on sale December 15th and retail for $25 per set.

MattyCollector.com Exclusive DC Universe Classics B'wana Beast Action Figure
The final B’wana Beast action figure is the one I know the least about. As you can see from the photo below, it is a Batman: The Brave and The Bold B’wana Beast action figure based on his appearance in the cartoon of the same name. I haven’t been able to find out if and when this figure will see its worldwide release, but with B’wana Beast’s resurgence in popularity you know this figure will be released sometime soon…oh who am I kidding!?! A character can’t have a resurgence in popularity when he was never popular to begin with!

Batman The Brave and The Bold B'wana Beast Action Figure
Ok, maybe I’m being a little too hard on the guy considering he’s currently dead in DC's comic book continuity, but seriously? Was there really a need for four different B’wana Beast action figures in less than twelve months? I know Mattel and DC Direct have done an amazing job producing a wide variety action figures based on the heroes and villains from the DC Universe, but let’s move past B’wana Beast already and start giving some other characters their due!

While we've already gotten JLU versions of Vibe and Steel, couldn’t we all use a DC Universe Classics version of the greatest break dancer in the history of the DCU? And what about Gypsy, Lady Blackhawk, Mister Bones, Major Diaster and Big Sir, don’t they deserve multiple action figures too? I know I’d kill for a JLU or DCU Classics Doctor Mist action figure! I could go on for days, but I’ll spare you my ramblings. Who would you like to see in an upcoming release from Mattel or DC Direct?

SDCC 09 Exclusive JLU Green Lantern Origins Action Figure 3 Pack

It’s looking more and more like summer 2009 can officially be called the Summer of Green Lantern. DC Comics’ highly anticipated mini-series/cross-over Blackest Night starts in June, the animated feature film Green Lantern: First Flight comes out on July 28th and we’re getting some killer San Diego Comic Con exclusives from both DC Direct and Mattel. Yesterday The Blot spotlighted the DC Direct SDCC 09 exclusive Green Lantern figures and today we take a look at Mattel’s Justice League Unlimited SDCC 2009 exclusive Green Lantern Origins action figure 3 pack.

Justice League Unlimited San Diego Comic Con 2009 Exclusive Green Lantern Origins 3 Pack - Abin Sur, Hal Jordan & Sinestro
The JLU Green Lantern Origins 3 pack features test pilot Hal Jordan in his trademark Ferris Aircraft flight suit, his predecessor Green Lantern Abin Sur and his mentor/arch enemy Sinestro. As hard as it is to believe, this is the first ever Hal Jordan Justice League Unlimited figure, and for the life of me I can’t figure out why it took Mattel so long to release one. I know in the animated world of JLU the primary Green Lantern is John Stewart, but come on!

Justice League Unlimited San Diego Comic Con 2009 Exclusive Green Lantern Origins 3 Pack - Hal Jordan, Abin Sur & Sinestro loose figures
What’s even worse is that after all this time Mattel’s first Hal Jordan toy is literally a Hal Jordan figure and not a Green Lantern figure. I guess the old saying really is true, beggars can’t be choosers! I assume Mattel is releasing this Origins set to coincide with the release of the Green Lantern animated origin movie First Flight, which explains why we’re getting a test pilot Hal Jordan figure. Here’s hoping Warner Bros. finally gets its act together enough so that the long gestating Green Lantern live action movie can finally get out of developmental hell.

Justice League Unlimited San Diego Comic Con 2009 Exclusive Green Lantern Origins 3 Pack Back - Abin Sur, Hal Jordan & Sinestro
What’s cool/creepy about the JLU Green Lantern Origins 3 pack is that all of the heads in this pack are swappable. This lets you play out Hal’s transformation from Test Pilot to Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814, so I guess in a way we really are getting a Hal Jordan Green Lantern JLU figure. This “feature” is a first for Mattel’s JLU toy line, making me more than a little worried that we’re going to end up with three headless figures because their heads don’t fit snugly on their bodies.

No price or run size on the SDCC 09 exclusive JLU Green Lantern Origins three figure set has been announced yet. While this is a San Diego Comic Con exclusive, any unsold sets will be made available after the Con at MattyCollector.com.

MattyCollector.com Exclusive JLU Legion of Super Heroes 4 Pack

On Friday, May 15th MattyCollector.com released their latest online exclusive, the JLU Legion of Super Heroes four pack. The LSH has always been one of The Blot’s favorite DC comics and I love that we can now get Justice League Unlimited animated versions of four of the Legion’s most popular members.

MattyCollector.com Exclusive JLU Legion of Super Heroes 4 Pack
The JLU Legion of Super Heroes 4 pack includes its three founding members, Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy and Lightning Lad, as well as Braniac 5. The Blot was more than a little annoyed to find out the Legion of Super Heroes cartoon was canceled after just two seasons, but the show can now live on in this new LSH 4 pack.

MattyCollector.com Exclusive JLU Legion of Super Heroes 4 Pack - Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl Action Figures
I love Mattel’s JLU toy line because of its willingness to produce animated versions of DC characters mainstream America may not be familiar with. Some might complain that the JLU line just reuses the same two or three body styles for every character and they don’t all stand up that well, but I try to look past those flaws due to the fact that Mattel has decided (for now) to stick with this toy line even though the Justice League Unlimited cartoon is no longer on the air.

MattyCollector.com Exclusive JLU Legion of Super Heroes 4 Pack - Cosmic Boy and Brainiac 5 Action Figures
Each 4 pack retails exclusively on MattyCollector.com for $30 each with a maximum order quantity of 10. What’s interesting about this latest exclusive is that all four LSH figures come individually carded but shipped together in one slip case. This is the first time you can get MattyCollector.com exclusive JLU figures packaged this way. The MattyCollector.com Exclusive JLU Legion of Super Heroes 4 Pack can be purchased here now.

JLU Super Friends Action Figure 3 Pack - Apache Chief, Black Vulcan & Samurai

The Blot’s post last week about the upcoming DC Universe Classics Wonder Twins 2 Pack sparked a good discussion in the post’s comments section of the greatness that is the Hanna-Barbera produced Super Friends cartoon. All that talk led me to surfing the web and I stumbled upon a Wikipedia rumor of an upcoming JLU Super Friends 3 pack. And well, after a little bit of Googling look what I found!

JLU Super Friends Action Figure 3 Pack - Black Vulcan, Apache Chief & Samurai
According to Apache Chief’s Wikipedia page the figures above were revealed at the 2009 New York Comic Con and will be released at some point this year. How I missed this vital information I have no idea! As with all of Mattel’s Justice League Unlimited toy line, the Super Friends 3 pack, which will include Apache Chief, Black Vulcan and Samurai, will be sold exclusively at Target.
