Justice League Unlimited Screen Print by Dave Perillo x Grey Matter Art

The Blot’s jaw hit the ground yesterday when I learned Grey Matter Art had teamed up with artist Dave Perillo to produce an officially licensed screen print for the iconic DC Comics animated series, Justice League Unlimited!!! JLU was a direct sequel to the Justice League animated series, and focused on the majority of the DC Universe. With this release, Dave showcases some of DC’s most iconic characters displayed in their classic animated form. This poster has some of The Blot’s all time favorite characters – Booster Gold, Fire, Ice, Captain Atom, Vixen, Hawk and Dove – making it a must get for sure! The Blot’s always wanted a screen print with Booster in it and it’s finally here!

DC Comics’ Shazam Teaser Movie Poster

So Warner Bros and DC Comics just released the very first teaser one sheet movie poster for their upcoming live action Captain Marvel film, Shazam! And I have to ask, is anyone actually excited for this film? I like Zachary Levi, and I loved him in Chuck, but is he really the right person to play Captain Marvel Shazam? I’ve seen the leaked on-set photos and his costume is just ridiculous. It’s so padded and still only makes him look half as big as the Big Red Cheese is depicted in Fawcett and DC comic books. I’ll still see the film, but I’m setting my expectations super low for this one. Rumor is The Rock’s Black Adam either isn’t even in the film or is going to have a very small roll. How is that possible!?!

The Blot loves this officially licensed toy line of dissected super heroes and villains, and I’m excited to see it continue at such a fervent pace. DC Comics Super Pets Plush Figures

After the success of its adorable San Diego Comic-Con 2015 Exclusive Krypto plush earlier this summer, DC Comics is officially launching a new line of Super Pets plush figures based on artwork of Art Baltazar from the popular all-ages comic book series Super-Pets! To kick things off, DC is rereleasing Superman's pet dog Krypto and joining him are Supergirl’s faithful pet Streaky the Super-Cat, the cuddliest member of the Shazam family Hoppy, and Red Lantern Atrocitus' furball Dex-Starr. Each figure stands 9” tall and will retail for $13.99. While these awesome new figures aren’t hitting store shelves until later 2015 and early 2016, you can pre-order all four DC plushes now from Entertainment Earth here.

DC Comics Mini Figure Concept Art by Kidrobot

If like The Blot you’ve been jonzing for more information on Kidrobot’s upcoming line of DC Comics vinyl figures, you’re in luck! Check out this awesome concept art of KR’s soon to be released DC Comics Mini Figures. There’s really not much new information here, as the concept art matches up to the designs Kidrobot had on display at ToyFair 2014 (originally seen here). But boy do these figures look great! Sadly the 3” toy line will be featuring DC Comics’ “New 52” designs, which are generally terrible.

According to the concept artwork above, the DC Comics Mini Figure Series will include Aquaman, Batgirl, Batman, Darkseid, Green Lantern Hal Jordan, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Ambush Bug, Shazam, Animal Man, Superman, Cyborg, Swamp Thing, Green Arrow, Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Poinson Ivy.

Surprisingly, this toy line is pretty hero specific, with only one true villain included – Darkseid. I say that because in the “New 52” universe Catwoman, Harley Quinn and Poision Ivy are basically considered good guys with their memberships in the Justice League of America, Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey respectively. But where is the love for the ‘90s era Justice League!?! These figures better sell well so I get a second wave of designs featuring Booster Gold, Guy Gardner, Blue Beetle and the Martian Manhunter!

SDCC 13 Exclusive “New 52” Shazam! Action Figure by Mattel & DC Comics

San Diego Comic-Con 2013 will mark the debut of the world’s first action figure of the “New 52” Billy Batson, the boy turned DC Comics super hero known as Shazam! Not included with Matty Collector’s DC Universe Club Infinite Earths subscriptions, this figure arrives with a removable hood in Club Infinite Earths die cut packaging with distinctive silver foil.

Of all of DC Comics’ “New 52” redesigns, the character with the coolest new look is without a doubt the former Captain Marvel, Shazam! I’ve really been looking forward to seeing a toy of the new Shazam, but man I wish Mattel had done a better job with his hood. It fits to his head terribly and looks like it’s standing up unnaturally. Hopefully these pictures aren’t the final product and the sculpting of the hood is much better in the final product. I can’t imagine the Four Horsemen not fixing this before Comic-Con.

Tracy Tubera 2013 Super Hero Sketch-A-Day

For 2013 artist Tracy Tubera is challenging himself to sit down every day and put pencil to paper. While many artists have tackled this kind of 365 sketch-a-day challenge, Tracy has been killing it by drawing some of his favorite DC and Marvel super heroes in his unique style. If you’re a comic book fan and not already following Tracy on Instgram, do it now! Every day he’s posting another sketch of the industry’s most iconic characters. Batman, Superman, Spider-Man and Wolverine have already been included…who’s next!?! Seeing these amazing stylized sketches has The Blot trying to figure out how I can get Tracy in my Booster Gold sketchbook.

DC Comics x Domo Mystery Minis Blind Box Mini Figure Series by Funko

If you liked Funko’s surprising new DC Universe x Domo Pop! Vinyl Figure Series, which features Domo-kun, the adorable open-mouthed ursine-like Japanese stop-motion television mascot, re-imagined as the DC Universe’s greatest heroes, then you’re really going to love their new DC Comics x Domo Blind Box Mini Figure Series! Expanding upon the Pop! line, the Domo x DC Universe Mystery Minis features 14 unique 2.5” Domo x DC Comics characters sold blind box style ($5.95). The line-up looks killer, and includes some really surprising designs like the “New 52” versions of Batman, Superman and Robin.

DC Comics x Domo Mystery Mini Series 1 includes Dark Knight Batman, Classic Batman, New 52 Batman, Classic Superman, Clark Kent, New 52 Superman, Classic Robin, New 52 Robin, Two-Face, The Riddler, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman and Shazam! There are a few noticeable omissions though (Wonder Woman, The Joker and Catwoman), so The Blot’s really hoping these do well and we get a second series of Domo x DC Mystery Minis sometime soon!

Each character design features its own ratio, with Classic Batman Domo a hard to find 1/72 and the Clark Kent Domo the rarest figure in the series with a ratio of 1/144! Each Domo x DC Universe Mystery Minis case includes 24 blind boxes, meaning there’s only one Clark Kent Domo in every master case of Mystery Minis! This is going to be one exciting (and hard to complete) blind box series for sure.

Gemini Collectibles Exclusive Metallic Chase DC Universe Pop! Series 3 by Funko

Wave 3 of Funko’s DC Universe Pop! Heroes has been out for a while, but no chase figures were ever discovered in the wild. The reason for that is there were none…until now! Four of Series 3’s characters (Aquaman, Shazam, Hawkman and Green Arrow) are now available as limited edition Metallic Chases sold exclusively through Gemini Collectibles. A Metallic Martial Manhunter was previously released as a San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive, leaving Two-Face as the only Series 3 figure without a rare chase.

Each Gemini Collectibles Exclusive Mettalic DC Universe Pop! Heroes Wave 3 vinyl figure stands 3.75” tall, is limited to just 240 pieces, and comes in a displayable window box. Fans can purchase all four figures as a set for $59.99 or individually for $16.99 through Gemini Collectibles online store.

SDCC 12 Exclusive Marvel & DC Universe LEGO Mini Figures

Once again LEGO will be at San Diego Comic-Con giving away FREE mini figures!!!! This year, however, it’ll be super hero and villain mini figures from both the Marvel and DC Comics universes! Today (while supplies last) LEGO will be giving away 1,000 mini figures of Marvel’s Phoenix and Venom, and DC’s Shazam (the former Captain Marvel) and Bizarro. All four figures look great, and these are going to FAST!

I think it’s great LEGO does this every year at SDCC now, but this last bit of news is kind of annoying due to how rare these figures are (and how expensive they will be on the secondary market). According to LEGO, these figures will not be included in any future sets. Now does that mean we won’t ever see a Jean Grey as the Dark Phoenix mini figure down the road? Probably not, but if you do want a “good” Phoenix or a Shazam LEGO mini figure then you’d better get in touch with someone at Comic-Con STAT! Speaking of which, if anyone grabs an extra Shazam/Captain Marvel LEGO mini figure…hook a brother up!

DC Universe Pop! Heroes Wave 3 by Funko

The long rumored third wave of Funko’s DC Universe Pop! Heroes vinyl figures has officially been announced and The Blot really loves the lineup: Aquaman, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman, Captain Marvel and the villain Two-Face. It is worth noting that the final image for Hawkman has not been released yet, but I assume he is still in production since they skipped number 17 in the numbering of Wave 3’s packaging. Can you say San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive perhaps?!?

You may also notice some subtle differences between the final versions of these figures and the concept art that was leaked a few months ago. It looks like Funko is already incorporating many of these character’s new looks in the soon to be revamped/rebooted/relaunched DC Universe. For instance, there is now an extra red circle representing Mars in the middle of Martian Manhunter’s chest and Green Arrow had swapped out his old school Robin Hood hat/shirt for his new look Smallville inspired hood. I wonder whatever DCnU changes we will be seeing in Funko’s upcoming releases.
