Titans Television Series Season 2 One Sheet Poster by DC Universe

Although no one expects the DC Universe streaming service to be around much longer once Warner Bros launches its larger, all-encompassing HBO+ streaming service, it is exciting to see the release of a second season for Titans! The Blot’s a huge Teen Titans fan, and I can’t wait to see all the new characters popping up in the show’s second season, including Superboy, Deathstroke, Jericho, Ravager, and Doctor Light. It’s just too bad Swamp Thing got the ax so quickly! Which new DC Comics character are you most looking forward to seeing in Titans Season 2?

SDCC 2019 Exclusive DC Comics Vigilante Deluxe Statue by Icon Heroes

The Blot absolutely loves it when B and C-list DC Comics characters get the spotlight with special releases. So my jaw hit the ground yesterday when Icon Heroes announced they were releasing this fantastic San Diego Comic-Con 2019 Exclusive Vigilante Deluxe Statue based on the DC Comics character created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez in 1983’s New Teen Titans Annual #2.

This statue includes two interchangeable heads (a masked and an unmasked head of Adrian Chase), two interchangeable weapons to hold in his right hand (a sai and a brand), and two interchangeable right hands (one to hold a weapon and another holding his mask). This DC Comics Vigilante Deluxe Statue stands 8.5” tall, with one leg perched on his bullseye where his sai and brand can be stored, and is limited to just 250 pieces. This San Diego Comic-Con exclusive statue is made of high-quality polystone resin, hand painted, individually numbered, and includes a Certificate of Authenticity.

New Teen Titans Multi-Part Statue Set by George Perez x DC Comics

SDCC 15 Exclusive Arrow TV Series Arsenal DC Comics LEGO Mini Figure

LEGO has announced their second free mini figure of San Diego Comic-Con 2015, and it’s this awesome DC Comics Arsenal mini figure based on the character’s appearance in the hit The CW television show Arrow! The Blot’s always been a huge Roy Harper fan…from his junkie Green Arrow sidekick days as Speedy to becoming a founding member of the Teen Titans and eventually leading the team as Arsenal, to finally graduating from sidekick and becoming a primetime player in the DCU as a member of the Justice League as Red Arrow. Not only is Roy now a big time TV star, but he’s finally getting his very own LEGO mini figure!

DC Comics Announces This December Is Darwyn Cooke Variant Cover Month!

This December 2014, most of DC Comics’ releases will come with a limited edition Darwyn Cooke variant cover! The Blot is a huge fan of Cooke’s unique art style and his simplistic take on super hero comic books. It has that retro, old school vibe that just makes you happy! Even better still, these variant covers will be in a landscape format so you larger view of each cover.  These covers really harken back to the golden age of the DC Universe, a time The Blot can't get enough of.

Are these awesome or what!?! My favorite hands down is the Teen Titans cover featuring the team’s original ‘60s line up. Oh how I miss those simpler times. It’s too bad DC’s New 52 reboot didn’t do a better job reinventing the Titans franchise. I will say, the announcement of a Darwyn Cooke variant cover month just makes me angry that the new Booster Gold series hasn’t started yet. Oh how I’d love to see Darwyn draw a Booster cover!

There is nothing better than when one of your favorite television shows is brought back from cancellation. Family Guy, Futurama, Damages, The Killing…and now the Cartoon Network’s Teen Titans Go! Ok, so technically Teen Titans Go! is only loosely connected to the Cartoon Network’s popular 2003 Teen Titans series, but The Blot will take what he can get. Since I was a little kid DC Comics’ New Teen Titans series was one of The Blot’s favorite comics and I love this anime inspired take on Marv Wolfman and George Pérez’ iconic characters. Now Funko is giving the New Teen Titans the Pop! treatment with this adorable new line of Teen Titans Go! Pop! Television vinyl figures. This new toy line includes 3.75” vinyl figures of Robin, Raven, Starfire, Cybrog and Beast Boy.

DC Comics Teen Titans New 52 Action Figures - Superboy, Kid Flash & Wonder Girl

If there is one franchise DC Comics has totally screwed up with their soft “New 52” reboot it’s the Teen Titans. What was once a beloved franchise with relatable characters has turned into a complete mess. Superboy, Kid Flash and Wonder Girl are complete shells of their former selves. The Blot’s also not really feeling these New 52 Teen Titans designs, but if you’re DC Comics action figure completist then you won’t want these three new figures from DC Collectibles. All in all DC Collectibles’ New 52 toy line has been really well made. Plus it blows away the weak offerings Mattel’s been producing this past year.

The DC Comics Teen Titans New 52 toy line is based on the art of Brett Booth and includes Superboy, Kid Flash and Wonder Girl action figures. One of the best DC Nation animated shorts that have been airing on the Cartoon Network these past two years is “Super Best Friends Forever” starring Supergirl, Batgirl and Wonder Girl Donna Troy. Super hero girl power has never been so good!!! Based on that short comes this epic San Diego Comic-Con 2013 Exclusive Super Best Friends Forever Action Figure Set by DC Collectibles featuring the animated look of these three popular heroes. Book Review: Nick Cardy: The Artist At War

As a kid there was no bigger comic book than Marv Wolfman and George Pérez’ New Teen Titans. The Blot ate that series up and always wanted more from DC Comics. That led me to original Teen Titans series from the ‘60s and ‘70s, and the art of Nick Cardy. Cardy is a renowned commercial illustrator and comic book artist who worked on books such as Aquaman, Tomahawk, Bat Lash and the aforementioned Teen Titans for DC. Now in his 90s, Cardy has literally been drawing all of his life.

Nick Cardy: The Artist At War by Nick Cardy and Renee Witterstaetter transports us back to a period of time before Nick was a well known and successful illustrator. It shows us a different side of his artwork, from a time when Nick was one of the young Americans shipped overseas to fight in World War II. Throughout his time servicing the US during WWII, Nick carried a sketchbook to document his time in the conflict from beginning to end. Cardy was deployed with the 3rd Armored Spearhead Division, and fought through Europe (for which he received two Purple Hearts), ending up in Paris after VE Day. His sketches - in pencil, pen and watercolor - are extraordinarily vivid, and capture not only the humor and camaraderie, but also the horror of war.

What The Blot loves about this book is how it’s able to tell the vivid origin story of one of our cherished comic book creators in such a unique way. Rarely do we see this side of our comic book creators, and it shines a light on what I am sure played a huge influence on the artists and writers from golden age of comics: World War II. Besides some amazing artwork, Nick Cardy: The Artist At War also includes a really interesting interview Nick gave to Comic Book Resources and captions written by Nick explaining each piece. It’s truly fascinating to be able to travel back to the 1940s through one man’s artwork during a very frightful time in the world’s history. If you’re a fan of comic books, history or the WWII era, you should definitely check this book out.
