Pearl Jam Transformers Global Citizen Festival Concert Poster by Ames Bros

Pearl Jam Transformers 2015 Global Citizen Festival Concert Poster Screen Print by Ames Bros

This weekend Pearl Jam, The Blot’s favorite band, will be performing at the 2015 Global Citizen Festival in New York City’s Central Park! To commemorate the performance, PJ is teaming up with Volcom to host a killer Pearl Jam Pop Up Shop at Volcom Soho (446 Broadway, New York, NY 10013) all week long. This Pearl Jam pop up shop is the only place where you purchase the full NYC PJ merchandise line dropping this week, including this epic Transformers inspired concert poster by the Ames Bros! I seriously love how the Ames Bros redesigned the entire band (including Boom) as Transformers for this release. Pearl Jam will be releasing four different screen prints commemorating this show by artists the Ames Bros, Broken Fingaz, Don Pendleton and David Hale. The PJ pop up shop at Volcom Soho will be the only place to purchase these prints as the only Pearl Jam merchandise available at the festival will be the show’s official Global Citizen X Pearl Jam t-shirt.

The Pearl Jam 2015 Central Park's Great Lawn NYC by the Ames Bros is a 20”x26” Transformers 6 color Screen Print. The version sold at the Volcom pop up shop will not come signed and numbered, however the Ames Bros have also released a signed and numbered version that was limited to 130 pieces and is now sold out.

Faith No More Boston 2015 “Hood Goodz” Concert Poster Screen Print by Sket One

Faith No More Boston 2015 “Hood Goodz” Concert Poster Screen Print by Sket One

First Huck Gee and now Sket One!?! I don’t know who the art director is for Faith No More’s rock posters but they are doing an amazing job choosing artists for the bands 2015 tour! Sket One has designed the show poster for FNM’s concert at Boston, MA’s Orpheum Theatre on May 9, 2015. The Blot loves that Sket chose to make one of his signature Hood Goodz the focal point of this screen print. I mean has a can of beer ever looked so mean!?! To the best of my knowledge this is Sket’s first screen printed concert poster, making this a can’t miss release for long term fans of the California based arist.

The Faith No More Boston 2015 Concert Poster by Sket One is an 18”x24” signed and numbered screen print. The Standard Edition is limited to 115 pieces and retails for just $40, while the Sparkle Foil Variant is limited to just 20 pieces and retails for $100. Both prints are currently available for purchase at the Secret Serpents Faith No More Official Tour Poster Store.

Faith No More Los Angeles 2015 Concert Poster Screen Print by Huck Gee

Faith No More Los Angeles 2015 Concert Poster Standard Edition Screen Print by Huck Gee

While The Blot normally never blogs about rock concert posters (there’s just too many awesome prints dropping daily), I had to break my own rule when I found out Huck Gee had designed one for Faith No More’s show last Friday, April 24th, at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, California. I had no idea Huck designed concert posters, but after seeing this one I hope there are many more in his future! I was also really thrilled to learn this poster was a screen print, as all the other Huck Gee prints I’ve ever seen have all been lithographs. And doesn’t this diesel powered steel pillbox mech jumping out of an airplane look bad ass!?!

The Faith No More Los Angeles 2015 Concert Poster by Huck Gee is an 18”x24” signed and numbered screen print. The Standard Edition is limited to 115 pieces and retails for just $40, while the Rainbow Foil Variant is limited to just 20 pieces and retails for $100. Both prints are currently available for purchase at the Secret Serpents Faith No More Official Tour Poster Store.

Led Zeppelin Celebration Day Screen Print by Obey Giant

Obey Giant: Led Zeppelin Celebration Day Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

After designing the packaging for Led Zeppelin’s Mothership album, the iconic rock band ask Shepard Fairey and Obey Giant to give it another go for the package of their concert album Celebration Day. The Blot loves this image, although the Mothership design was a little more classic Obey Giant. Either way, it’s really impressive that Fairey was asked to design the cover artwork for two different albums for such an iconic rock band as Led Zeppelin!

Led Zeppelin Celebration Day by Shepard Fairey is an 18″x24″ signed and numbered screen print, and has a limited edition run size of just 300 pieces. The print will retail for $55 and goes on sale at Obey Giant online store today, December 18th, between 10am and 12 noon PST at a random time. There is also an additional 50 prints that come signed by the band, which will be sold for charity at a later date.

New Adam WarRock Album “You Dare Call That Thing Human?!?”

You Dare Call That Thing Human?!? Album Cover by Adam WarRock

Last night The Blot had the privilege to see Adam WarRock, the internet’s foremost comic book rapper, in concert as part of the VS. Tour with Random aka Mega Ran. After trying to see Adam for almost a year, I’ve now seen him live three times in the past twelve months! Pretty crazy, huh? WarRock puts on an amazing show and I highly recommend seeing Adam in concert if he visits your city.

This was the first live show I’d seen since You Dare Call That Thing Human?!?, Adam’s second full length album, had been released. Adam describes this release as “an exploration of humanity amidst three months on the road,” but I think it’s so much more than just that. It really highlights Adam’s growth as both a writer and performer, and you can really see how touring for the past year has helped him shape his craft. But what’s really great about You Dare Call That Thing Human?!? are the more serious/personal songs. Songs like “I Kill Giants” allow fans a deeper insight into Adam’s life while he shows off his serious MC skills. It also doesn’t hurt that track 5 is entitled “Booster Gold”!!

You Dare Call That Thing Human?!? is out now on iTunes, Amazon and Bandcamp for $10 or less! Download it today and let the nerdcore revolution begin.

Eddie Vedder in NYC Concert Posters by Jermaine Rogers & Frank Kozik

Eddie Vedder New York City 6.21.11 Concert Poster by Jermaine Rogers and Frank Kozik

It’s releases like this that remind me why I love art so much!!! The Blot has seriously been waiting years for a Jermaine Rogers Pearl Jam concert poster, and while there were rumblings a while back that one was in the works it never actually materialized…until this week! Finally, Jermaine was commissioned to do the limited edition screen prints for both nights of Eddie Vedder's recent solo appearances in New York City at the Beacon Theater. What’s even cooler is Jermaine arranged to do a collaboration piece with fellow artist Frank Kozik for the first night! Seriously, what’s better than two of my favorite artists represented in two amazing concert posters!?!

Eddie Vedder New York City 6.22.11 Concert Poster by Jermaine Rogers

With these prints Jermaine “wanted to do something a bit different from what has been done recently for Ed, and he was very open to this. So, we decided to give everyone a glimpse of a distant time in the future when the lovely animals of earth have inherited everything that human beings have pissed away...or had taken from them. Two of our friendly future beasts explore the ancient ruins of what surely must've been a grand ol' place...at least, once upon a time. Doing that evolution....” For the second night, Jermaine created a companion piece to go along with the first night's offering. According to Jermaine Eddie really like this one because of how it reminded him of the great John Lennon.

Both Eddie Vedder 6 color concert posters measure 17”x24”, come signed and numbered by the artist(s) and have a limited edition run size of 100 pieces. And before you ask, yes the June 21, 2011 screen print comes signed by both Jermaine Rogers and Frank Kozik! Both versions will retail for $65 and go on sale at JermaineRogers.com this Friday, June 24th, at 3:00 PM Eastern.

Adam WarRock in Concert presented by Zeus Comics & The Variants

Adam WarRock presented by Zeus Comics & The Variants - Alexandre’s Bar - Dallas, TX 02.27.11

Zeus Comics and the hit web series The Variants bring nerdcore rap artist Adam WarRock for his Dallas debut this Sunday, February 27th, at Alexandre’s Bar. Come see Adam’s deft lyricism and hip hop beats for this one-night-only performance. The Blot can’t even begin to tell you how bummed I am to be missing this show! I’ve been looking forward to Adam WarRock’s show in Dallas ever since Zeus Comics owner Richard Neal first teased the show almost 6 months ago. Sadly, due to some prior commitments here in Houston I won’t be able to travel to Dallas for the show (and The Variants Season 2 taping). But just because I can’t attend the show doesn’t mean you shouldn’t!

Adam WarRock is widely known as the Internet’s foremost comic book nerdcore rapper. He has gained a following through his tireless song production, biting sense of humor, and sharp eye for geek and pop cultural topics to skewer in hip hop form. First gaining widespread attention after filmmaker Edgar Wright discovered his “Scott Pilgrim” recap rap, WarRock went on to gain further notoriety with the single “Ira Glass,” which turned the name of This American Life’s host into a verb for living life boldly. Mr. Glass personally gave the song his blessing.

Zeus Comics & The Variants present Adam WarRock in Concert in Dallas, TX on Sunday, February 27, 2011

WarRock went on to release his debut album, The War For Infinity, in the Fall of 2010. This album, along with WarRock’s West Coast Avengers Mixtape, has been playing on The Blot’s iPod constantly since its release. I highly recommend downloading both albums ASAP! WarRock’s upcoming Dallas concert marks one more stop on his nationwide tour of theaters and comic book shops.

For those of you unfamiliar with Zeus Comics, it’s a nationally recognized comic book store known for its innovation in the field of comic book retail. The WarRock concert is also partly sponsored by the web series The Variants, which will be on hand for the performance to film footage for a future episode.

Alexandre’s Bar is located at 4026 Cedar Springs Road in Dallas, Texas. Admission is free, but you must be 21 and up to attend. If any readers of TheBlotSays.com from the DFW attend this show please hit me up and let me know what you think! All is not lost though, rumor has Adam WarRock will be making his Houston debut in May for Comicpalooza! More details to come…

Buff Monster x Brian Ewing Faith No More Auckland, New Zealand Concert Poster

Buff Monster recently collaborated with the super talented Brian Ewing on a concert poster for next week’s Faith No More show in Auckland, New Zealand with the Eagles of Death Metal. The Blot is very impressed with how great a job Buff and Ewing did in melding their two unique styles to create such an awesome looking print. While it’s been a few years since I’ve listened to Faith No More, I really want to add this concert poster to my collection!

It is Moss’ concert poster for Sonic Youth’s January 7, 2010 tour stop at the House of Blues San Diego, CA, and it is a great example of Moss’ old school style that fans have come to love. The UK artist recently relocated to Los Angeles, so hopefully this means Moss will be releasing many more screen prints in the months to come!

The Faded Line - Limited Edition Metal Prints and Puzzles by Brad Klausen & Emek

The Faded Line has two very cool releases dropping this week that I thought readers of The Blot Says… might enjoy, especially all the Pearl Jam fans out there! Brad Klausen, known for his amazing PJ rock concert posters, recently joined The Faded Line’s stable of artists (which includes Emek, Todd Slater & Jeff Wood). Klausen’s first two releases with The Faded Line features the Reaper from his 2006 Pearl Jam DC concert poster and they look pretty damn sweet!

The Faded Line Limited Edition Jigsaw Puzzles - Cloak and Veil by Brad Klausen
First up is a set of three limited edition jigsaw puzzles. The three images, “Cloak and Veil” by Brad Klausen and “Cybercycle” and “Cyberman” by Emek, have been seen on posters for Pearl Jam, Built To Spill and Tool. The puzzles are signed and numbered, screen printed editions of 170 and measure 15" x 21.25". Each limited edition puzzle will retail for $35, and due to demand only 1 puzzle will be sold per household.

The Faded Line Limited Edition Jigsaw Puzzles - Cyberman by Emek
The Faded Line Limited Edition Jigsaw Puzzles - Cybercycle by Emek
In conjunction with the puzzle sale, The Faded Line will also be selling extremely limited edition metal prints of the same three images above. In order to purchase one of these metal prints, customers must order a puzzle first and then check a box during checkout which puts them into a random drawing for the right to purchase a metal print. Each 18”x24” metal print is limited to 60 pieces, comes signed and numbered by the artist, and will retail for $200.

The Faded Line Limited Edition Metal Prints - Cloak and Veil by Brad Klausen, and Cybercycle & Cyberman by Emek
One puzzle will go on sale each day at 3pm Mountain starting Thurs 1/7 through Sat 1/9 exclusively at www.thefadedline.com. Because this is a Faded Line exclusive, the artists will not have inventory to sell at a later date.

Pearl Jam Concert Posters by Tom Tomorrow

I know I've touched upon this before, but the cover of Pearl Jam’s latest album, Backspacer, was designed by Tom Tomorrow (a.k.a. editorial cartoonist Dan Perkins), who is best known for his liberal slanted weekly comic strip This Modern World. Needless to say, The Blot was really excited to find out Tom had also designed a concert poster for the band’s August 24, 2009 show at the United Center in Chicago, IL. As far as I am aware, this is the first time an artist has designed the artwork for a Pearl Jam album and a concert poster for that album’s corresponding tour. I love Tomorrow’s art style, and may or may not now be the proud owner of a signed and numbered AP print of the poster below.

Pearl Jam - August 24, 2009 - United Center - Chicago, IL Concert Poster by Tom Tomorrow
While I love Tom’s ode to Chicago, the real reason I’m writing this post is because of the amazing Halloween themed concert poster set he designed for Pearl Jam’s four night stay at Philadelphia’s The Spectrum. If you haven’t heard already, The Spectrum closed for good after Pearl Jam’s final show there on Halloween 2009. Pearl Jam played four shows at The Spectrum, October 27th, 28th, 30th and 31st, and played almost every song the band has ever recorded. To go along with Pearl Jam’s four shows in Philly, Tomorrow designed four posters (1 for each night) that could stand alone individually or, when placed next to each other, form one giant retro pop culture costume party themed image.

Pearl Jam - October 27, 2009 - The Spectrum - Philadelphia, PA Concert Poster by Tom Tomorrow
Pearl Jam - October 28, 2009 - The Spectrum - Philadelphia, PA Concert Poster by Tom Tomorrow
According to Tomorrow, “since these were for a series of shows the week of Halloween, my idea was to have a giant retro pop-culture costume-party theme - superheroes, robots, space people, monsters, etc., along with a number of band-related/requested ‘cameos’ in the background, all (at least in my mind’s eye) comprising the audience to the last shows at the Spectrum.”

Pearl Jam - October 30, 2009 - The Spectrum - Philadelphia, PA Concert Poster by Tom Tomorrow
Pearl Jam - October 31, 2009 - The Spectrum - Philadelphia, PA Concert Poster by Tom Tomorrow
If you are interested in purchasing these awesome Halloween inspired Pearl Jam concert posters, Tom Tomorrow will most likely be selling a signed and numbered edition of these sometime early next year, around February or so. They’ll be available as complete sets of four only, and an exact price has not yet been set. If you’re interested in a set, Tom’s compiling a waiting list which you can add your name to by sending an email to him at tom(dot)tomorrow (at) gmail (dot) com with “Philly waiting list” in the subject line. Please note, you are not placing an actual order and he is not taking any money at this time. But when he does eventually do the sale, priority will be given to those on the list.

Pearl Jam - Backspacer

As most of you know, The Blot is a diehard Pearl Jam fan, so I’m excited to say my next two weeks are going to be very Pearl Jam centric. This is because yesterday, Sunday, September 20th, Pearl Jam released its ninth studio album, Backspacer. Then in a two weeks Aly and I will be driving to Austin to see Pearl Jam headline the 2009 Austin City Limits Music Festival. I really can’t wait!

2009 Pearl Jam Black and White Photo
Since Backspacer dropped yesterday, the first thing I did on Sunday was head down to my local Target to purchase the album. I've been listening to the album non-stop since I got it yesterday, and I really like it. Now it’s obviously not my favorite Pearl Jam album, but I do like it more than the band’s last album, the self-titled Pearl Jam. I think the fact that the country is no longer under the command of the Bush regime has freed PJ up to focus their immense talent on other issues and topics, which has allowed their creativity to flourish.

Pearl Jam - Backspacer Album Cover by Tom Tomorrow
One of my favorite parts of the new album is its cover! It was designed by Tom Tomorrow (a.k.a. editorial cartoonist Dan Perkins), who is best well known for his liberal slanted weekly comic strip This Modern World. Tomorrow’s artwork for the album’s cover, packaging and inside booklet is really cool looking and all over the place. Each drawing in Backspacer has a very pop art feel to it, which of course I love, and it's going to look really killer as a screen print for one of Pearl Jam’s upcoming concerts.

For those of you wanting to pick up a copy of Backspacer on cd or vinyl, please remember the album is a Target exclusive, which sort of explains why it was released on a Sunday instead of this Tuesday. The album is also available on iTunes and local indie music stores nationwide.

Lollapalooza 2009 Is Officially Rocking

As we speak, the 2009 Lollapalooza Music Festival has begun. I felt a little amiss since I hadn’t mentioned it once this summer even though it is hands down my favorite music festival of them all. I was a little down on Lolla this year because I absolutely hated it’s line-up, but thought I’d show it a little love since both of my step-brothers will be attending this year. If the headliners were a tad better I might have considered meeting up with them, but Depeche Mode, Tool, Jane’s Addiction and the Beastie Boys just don’t do it for me like they would have in the late 80’s and early 90’s.

The 2009 Lollapalooza Music Festival Line-Up Poster
With that being said, I do love me some Killers and Kings of Leon, so a weekend spent at Chicago’s Grant Park wouldn’t have been all bad. And as always, Lollapalooza just stacked the middle and bottom of its line-up with incredible talent. Just take a look at the 2009 Lollapalooza Line-Up poster above and you’ll notice a ton of great artists, including Ben Harper, Snoop Dogg, TV on the Radio, Andrew Bird, Vampire Weekend, Cold War Kids and too many other great bands to mention all of them here.

I have no doubt this year’s festival will be a blast, but alas it’ll have to go on without The Blot. Besides, I’ve gotta save up all my energy for this year’s ACL Music Festival in October.

Lollapalooza takes place this weekend, August 7-9th, at Grant Park in Chicago, IL.

2009 Austin City Limits Music Festival Lineup Poster

2009 Austin City Limits Music Festival Banner
Last night when The Blot finally got a chance to look at this year's ACL line up I got so excited I couldn't go to sleep. What got me this worked up!?! Two words: Pearl Jam. Yup, you read that right, Pearl Jam is finally returning to the Lone Star state to headline the 2009 Austin City Limits Music Festival. Did you know its been almost 6 years since PJ last played a show here in Texas? It's a fact that has bothered The Blot greatly these past few years, but thankfully the drought ends this October 2-4, 2009 at Zilker Park in Austin, TX!

Official 2009 Austin City Limits Music Festival Lineup Poster
I've never attended ACL before, but you can rest assured I will this year. Although, now that weekend passes are $185 each I might have to settle with just going on Sunday to see Eddie Vedder and Co. It's a shame that weekend passes are so expensive because the 2009 initial lineup looks really awesome. It's definitely a huge improvement on last year's lineup.

The Phish Reunion

This past weekend saw the triumphant return of Vermont jam band Phish with a three night stint (March 6th, 7th & 8th) at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia. Some fans never thought they’d see the band perform together again after its members decided to take an indefinite hiatus back in August of 2004, but as we’ve seen countless times before great bands always seem to eventually reunite. The Blot isn’t a huge fan of Trey Anastasio and Co., but a ton of my friends from high school and college are hardcore Phishheads (many of whom made the long trek to Virginia for the first Phish show in over four years) and it has definitely rubbed off on me.

March 6-8, 2009 - Hampton Coliseum - Hampton, VA Concert Artwork
PhishWhat’s really cool about Phish’s three concerts at the Hampton Coliseum is that the band has decided to release official bootlegs of all three nights in MP3 format to public for free! Consider it a thank you to its fans for their many years of support and a consolation to fans who either weren’t able to make the trip to Virginia or get their hands on a highly sought after ticket to one of Phish’s three shows. I haven't heard that much about the shows yet, but one friend did say Saturday night was pretty awesome. If you're interested, head over to LivePhish.com and start downloading one, two or all three nights for free!

March 6, 2009 - Hampton Coliseum - Hampton, VA
March 7, 2009 - Hampton Coliseum - Hampton, VA
March 8, 2009 - Hampton Coliseum - Hampton, VA

If you prefer better sound quality you can also purchase a FLAC or CD copy of the shows, but if you just want to hear what the band sounds like after all these years apart stick with the free MP3 format. If you’re dying to see Phish and weren’t able to attend this past weekend’s shows don’t worry, the band is sure to be announcing a new world tour any day now.

2009 Bonnaroo Poster and Line-Up

You know, The Blot actually thought this year’s Coachella line-up was pretty sick until Bonnaroo unveiled its 2009 line-up last week. This summer’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival is already shaping up, at least on paper, to be one of the best music festivals in recent memory. In fact, it completely blows away pretty much every other music festival’s line-up from the past two years. If The Blot didn’t already have a killer summer trip planned (more details on that to come later), I might have to consider busting out my old sleeping bag and heading to Manchester, Tennessee.

2009 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival Banner
Bonnaroo ’09 will include performances by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Phish (who will be performing twice), Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails, Wilco, Al Green, Snoop Dogg, Elvis Costello, Erykah Badu, Paul Oakenfold, Ben Harper and Relentless 7, The Mars Volta, TV on the Radio, David Byrne, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and way too many other amazing artists to name. You can find out the music festival’s complete initial line-up by clicking on the official 2009 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival Line-Up poster below:

Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival 2009 Lineup Poster
Bonnaroo takes place June 11-14, 2009 in Manchester, TN. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here through Bonnaroo.com. General Admission Weekend Passes are currently priced at $249.50, while VIP two ticket packages are being sold for $1,349.50. Payment plans are available for both options.

2009 Coachella Poster and Line-Up

The Road to the 2009 Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio, CAAfter seeing the official line up for the 2009 Coachella Music and Arts Festival, The Blot realizes the rumor of the decline of the three day music festival has been greatly exaggerated. The Blot was as turned off as anyone by the recycled lineups of last year’s music festivals, but Coachell seems to be making a concerted effort to turn things around. While headliner Paul McCartney continues the trend of festivals bringing in an established act from decades ago, it’s still freaking Paul McCartney! He’s a Beatle for god sake and I think it would be pretty cool to see him perform even if he is 20-30 years past his prime.

The 2009 Coachella Music and Arts Festival Line-Up Poster
The other two headliners, The Killers and The Cure, leave a little to be desired for a big music festival’s closing acts, but I do love me some Killers so I can’t complain too much. Plus, the rest of this year’s Coachella schedule is pretty sick. It includes acts such as Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, Amy Winehouse, Thievery Corporation, My Bloody Valentine, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Leonard Cohen, Conor Oberst, Beirut, the Black Keys, Girl Talk, TV on the Radio, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes, MSTRKRFT, Lupe Fiasco, Peter Bjorn and John, the Hold Steady, M. Ward and (surprisingly) Shepard Fairey!

What Fairey will be doing at Coachella is anyone’s guess. Maybe some live painting on stage while another act performs? You can check out the entire 2009 Coachella line-up by clicking on the Coachella 2009 line-up poster above.

The Coachella Music and Arts Festival takes place April 17th, 18th and 19th in Indio, California. It is recommended to purchase your tickets in advance, which you can do so directly from Coachella on their website here. 3 day weekend passes are $269 and single day passes are $99.

My Morning Jacket Live in Dallas, TX at The Palladium on 08/23/08

The other highlight of The Blot’s trip to Dallas last weekend was when Aly and I headed down to The Palladium Ballroom to see America’s best live band, My Morning Jacket. We had been debating for about a week whether or not we should go to the concert when we were really in town to visit family and friends. But after my buddy Greene told me I had to go because MMJ “is the redneck Radiohead,” we kind of figured we had no choice in the matter.

My Morning Jacket
Thank god we did because it was an amazing show. We had only seen the band live once before and that was at Lollapalooza 2007, so I was looking forward to seeing them perform somewhere other than at a festival to get a better feel for their live shows. The Palladium was the perfect place to do this. I had actually been expecting a lot smaller of a venue, but the size of The Palladium's Ballroom turned out to be just the right size to see My Morning Jacket. We picked out our general admission spot in the crowd and hunkered in for what was an almost three hour spectacle of music and lights.

My Morning Jacket
For a southern rock/jam band, MMJ puts on a hell of a show. With no opening band, MMJ started rocking from the very beginning, tearing into the first 4 songs of the night. I think Aly lost a little interest towards the back end of the two hour set when the songs slowed down and she didn’t recognize some of the newer material, but I thought it was a well put together set list by the Louisville, KY band.

Erykah Badu and Jim James - My Morning Jacket - 08/23/08 - The Palladium Ballroom - Dallas, TX
The highlight of the night had to be the amazing encore set, which kicked off with the band playing concert staple “Tyrone.” Out of nowhere Jim James and crew were joined by Dallas’ own Erykah Badu and the crowd erupted. “Tyrone” is a Badu original, which MMJ has been covering for almost 9 years and it was truly amazing to see Badu perform it live with the band. If you’re interested in seeing the performance check out the video clip of the song below:

My Morning Jacket then went on to play 6 more songs, ending the night with “Run Thru” and “One Big Holiday,” which had the entire crowd jumping and singing along. If you’ve never seen MMJ or don’t regularly attend concerts, I cannot recommend highly enough going to see this band on tour. There’s a reason people consider them the best live band touring today. It’s like my friend Danni said when trying to convince us to go to the show, “it’s not very often you can see a band perform live in the prime of their careers.” And you know what? He was absolutely right and the show was worth every penny.

Jason Mraz’s 2008 We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. North American Fall Tour

Jason MrazJason Mraz finally announced the North American tour dates for his 2008 We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. fall tour and it’s put The Blot in quite the predicament. As you all know, The Blot is a huge fan of Mraz and I’ve been waiting a while for him to return to Houston. When his 2008 North American tour was finally posted on his official website I was excited to see he would be playing in Houston on a Saturday night. That is until I realized the show was on the same night as another concert I’ve been eagerly awaiting, the Cold War Kids.

Aly and I haven’t been to too many shows this summer and I expected to make up for that this fall as Houston’s music scene kicks into high gear with the opening of a new House of Blues and an influx of indie bands as they travel through Houston on their way to ACL in Austin. Unfortunately, the two shows on the top of my must see list of concerts got schedule for the same night. What’s a guy to do?

Jason Mraz
As of now it’s up in the air, but I could squeeze both in if I’m able to get to Austin the night before to see Mraz at Stubbs and then return home to see the Cold War Kids that Saturday night at Warehouse Live. It’s not exactly the best plan since it would mean having to drive to Austin after work on Friday in rush hour, but we’ll see. For those of you planning on seeing Jason on one of his many tour stops, the talented Lisa Hannigan will be opening for him on all of the dates up until Nashville on November 30th.

Cold War Kids Set To Tour North America

Cold War KidsCold War Kids, one of The Blot’s favorite bands, is launching a new North American fall tour, and it thankfully includes Houston! While the CWK have played Texas a few times over the past two years, they’ve never made it as far south as the H before. I can’t complain too much as I’ve had the opportunity to see the Cold War Kids in concert three times now, at Lollapalooza the past two summers and once at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC, and they have only gotten better each and every time.

Cold War Kids
Even though the buzz around this indie quartet has definitely waned over the past year since their highpoint of being the blogosphere’s favorite new trendy band, The Blot still can’t get enough of their blues infused indie rock. If you’ve never heard their 2006 debut album Robbers & Cowards, you should definitely check out the Cold War Kids MySpace page and listen to a few of its tracks (including two of their best songs “We Used To Vacation” and "Saint John”). You should also check out the band’s tour dates below to see if Cold War Kids will be coming to your city this fall!
