SDCC 2017 First Look: Ninja Turtles x Ghostbusters Action Figures by Playmates

Inspired by the upcoming IDW comic book series featuring the Ghostbusters and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Ninja Ghostbusters reimagines the Ninja Turtles as if they were The Real Ghostbusters.

SDCC 2017 Exclusive Revolution Comic Book Crossover Action Figure Box Set by Hasbro x IDW

Hasbro is currently working to launch a new live action movie universe – starting with Transformers – that will include all of their action figure toy lines popular back in the 1980s. What’s so difficult about this is that most of these toy lines have never crossed over before. So to start sowing the seeds of a shared universe, Hasbro has teamed up with comic book publisher IDW to launch a Hasbro comic book universe that includes Transformers, G.I. Joe, ROM the Space Knight, M.A.S.K., Action Man, Visionaries and Micronauts. Not only is that a tall ask of IDW, it’s somewhat confusing combining that many strikingly different concepts into one story. To kick off this new Hasbro universe, IDW has written a new storyline called “Revolution”, which runs through all of their Hasbro comic books.

To commemorate this massive undertaking by IDW, Hasbro is releasing the San Diego Comic-Con 2017 Exclusive Revolution Comic Crossover Mega Set that includes characters from all seven toy lines! This limited edition comic book inspired set includes The Transformers’ Jetfire, G.I. Joe’s Roadblock, M.A.S.K.’s Matt Trakker, Action Man, ROM the Space Knight, Visionaries’ Leoric, and a bunch of Micronauts. SDCC 15 Exclusive Transformers “The Combiner Hunters” Action Figure Box Set

Hasbro has unveiled their second San Diego Comic-Con 2015 exclusive on IGN, and it’s this fantastic Transformers “The Combiner Hunters” Box Set based on the new Combiner Wars storyline. If you’re not familiar with the Combiner Wars, according to the Transformers Wiki it is “a 2015 multimedia branding used by Hasbro, encompassing Transformers toys, comics, and other merchandise…[that] focuses on combiners.” The San Diego Comic-Con 2015 Transformers “The Combiner Hunters” Box Set includes three Deluxe Scale figures, Windblade, Arcee and Chromia.

This exclusive is based specifically on IDW’s new Combiner Hunters comic book storyline, which sees these three female Transformers team up to take down the original Combiner, Devastator! Later today, Mondo will be releasing two new posters from four different artists representing four very different eras of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. TMNT has had a huge resurgence over the past two years with a new cartoon, toy line, IDW comic book series and live action movie. While the movie left me feeling blah, the new cartoon, toys and comic book series have been fantastic! The Blot can’t even describe how happy it makes me that Nickelodeon realizes how special and beloved the Ninja Turtles are, and what an amazing job they’ve done introducing Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo to a new generation.

This epic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles release is comprised of a TMNT poster for the classic 1980s animated cartoon series by Tom Whalen, a post for the 1990 live action film by Rich Kelly, a poster based on the original Eastman/Laird comics by JC Richard and the amazing new TMNT cartoon series currently airing on Nickelodeon by Andrew Kolb. What an awesome idea for a series, and boy did all four artists knock it out of the park! The Blot especially loves Whalen’s screen print as this is the version of the Turtles I grew up with.
