El Lunchador T-Shirt by Deli Fresh Threads

Like The Blot, our buddy Biggie of Deli Fresh Threads grew up a huge fan of the WWE and professional wrestling! For Deli Fresh Threads newest release, Biggie brought back those old school wrestling posters that promoters used to use to advertise events back in the day, mixed in a little Lucha Libre wrestling, and came up with a delicious new t-shirt design entitled “El Lunchador”. This shirt is seriously fantastic! Designed by the talented Lain Lee III, each El Lunchador t-shirt purchased will also include a few extra goodies like a Masked Biggie Bread sticker and an El Lunchador poster.

Who is El Lunchador? As a child, El Lunchador got bullied for his lunch daily. The kids at school would take El Lunchador's lunch, and eat the delicious sandwich lovingly prepared each day by his mother. One day after having his lunch stolen again, El Lunchador decided no one should ever be bullied for their sandwich (or for any other reason)! El Lunchador loved sandwiches so much that he decided to learn the fighting styles of the sandwiches he enjoyed. Being from Mexico he learned the fighting style of Lucha Libre and the delicious sandwich making ways of the Torta. In Vietnam, he learned how to make a bahn mi and the fighting style of Vovinam. He studied Bartitsu in England, while also learning the history of the sandwich. Last but not least, he studied MMA and professional wrestling in the United States. While in the good old USofA, El Lunchador also learned the skills necessary to make delicious cheesesteaks, hoagies, po’boys, French Dips and more! Tequila Classico Vinyl Figure by Muttpop

The Blot’s always down for a good surprise, and one came yesterday with the unannounced release of Muttpop’s newest Tequila colorway! News of a new Muttpop release spread through the internet like wildfire, and yet The Blot’s still been unable to find any real information about this Tequila Classico vinyl figure (like will these be finding their way to America? ).

UPADTE: The Blot heard from Muttpop Bob today, and he informed me that the Tequila Classico vinyl figure will be solicited in the next few weeks with the figure hitting stores shortly thereafter. It will have a limited edition run size of 500 figures and retail for $70 each.  So expect to see this hulking Lucha Libre figure in stores soon!

King Katch Vinyl Figure by Muttpop

The KING has arrived! Muttpop adds another beautiful figure to their classic Lucha Libre line with the King Katch vinyl figure. The Blot’s a huge fan of Muttpop’s Luchadores 5 and The Tikitis stories featured in its Lucha Libre anthology comic book series, and I’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of King Katch in his original color scheme.

King Katch was designed by Fabien M and sculpted by Monster5. He stands approximately 8.5" tall and comes with fully rotatable fists in a full color box. The King Katch OG colorway will retail for $80 each and should be in stores worldwide any day now.

Feared for his uncontrollable strength and rage, King Katch is deserted by the Wrestling Federation in the remote jungles of a tropical island in the Pacific Ocean. The setting may have changed but King Katch's savagery continues. Where once King Katch's fists of fury pummeled masked wrestlers, they now strike savage tribesmen and the wild beasts of the jungle. But fear not…in due time the King will return to reign in the ring!

Japan Expo Exclusive Artoyz x Muttpop Gamma Ray Edition Tequila

The Japan Expo in Paris starts today and Artoyz will be there with the exclusive of all exclusives, the Gamma Ray Edition Tequila vinyl figure from Muttpop. The Blot first saw this all green Tequila at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, and now almost a year later this hulking figure will finally be released this weekend as a Japan Expo exclusive.


The Japan Expo Exclusive Gamma Ray Edition Tequila vinyl figure from Artoyz and Muttpop has a limited edition run size of just 30 pieces, making it one of the rarest Muttpop production figures to date! This newest Tequila colorway can be purchased directly from Artoyz this weekend (while supplies last) at its Japan Expo booth BE18 in Hall 5A.

Muttpop - Ocran Ocinatas Tequila Vinyl Figure by Frank Kozik

The Frank Kozik X Muttpop collaboration continues! Ocran Ocinatas (Narco Satanico backwards) is the official follow-up to the long sold out El Brujo Narco Satanico Tequila vinyl figure by Frank Kozik. The reverse coloring on this figure was such a great idea, and The Blot just loves the gradient coloring on Tequila’s arms! This super detailed figure comes with a removable poncho, rotating head, tons of tattoos, and the menacing glare of blood-red eyeballs!

SDCC 09 - Upcoming Tequila 2.0 Colorways from Muttpop

At San Diego Comic Con 2009, Muttpop unveiled the next two colorways of everyone’s favorite Lucha Libre, Tequila! As you may remember, Tequila was rereleased earlier this year with a slightly updated look and now we know what the next two colorways of Tequila 2.0 will be: a Kozik Tequila 2.0 and an all green Radioactive Tequila 2.0 (along with the variant Incredible Radioactive Tequila which will sport purple pants).


The Blot’s not exactly sure about the release dates on these figures, but everyone and their mother is going to want one of these Kozik Tequila 2.0s. And my understanding of things is that we’re going to see the release of the Incredible Radioactive Tequila sometime prior to the Radioactive Tequila’s release. I can’t wait to get my hands on this Incredible Hulk inspired figure!

Muttpop - Tequila 2.0 Vinyl Figure

Thanks to Muttpop we now have official photos of Tequila 2.0. Tequila 2.0 is a rerelease (and a slightly different take) of the first Lucha Libre vinyl figure Muttpop ever produced, the OG Tequila vinyl figure. Tequila and its three colorways have been highly sought after collectables since their release a few years ago and the high prices of those hard to find figures on the secondary market continue to hold steady. While there are a few slight differences in the figure’s mold and coloring, the biggest difference between the original Tequila figure and Tequila 2.0 is the blood splatter on his right hand and poncho.


While I’m not a huge fan of blood splatter on my vinyl figures, Muttpop Bob explained that “the blood was a nice way to distinguish this version from [the] Original. We must pay respect to the og fans that got the first one.” I totally get that, and it really is a great way to reproduce an amazingly popular figure without over saturating the market and devaluing the original Tequla’s status in the eyes of collectors. Many fans of Lucha Libre and Muttpop vinyl figures have been waiting for this release for a really long time, but The Blot is still way more excited for the upcoming Radioactive Tequila Pop Culture colorway inspired by Marvel’s Incredible Hulk seen here.


Muttpop’s Tequila 2.0 vinyl figure will hit stores in just a few weeks sometime in April, 2009 and have a retail price of $60.

Muttpop - Emperor of the Golden Throne El Panda Custom Figure by Frank Kozik

Kozik has been teasing this release online for a while now, but his limited edition hand painted glow in the dark Emperor of the Golden Throne El Panda custom vinyl figure has finally hit the market. Only 66 of these hand painted figures were created and the 10 Kozik had on sale at VTN last week sold out instantly. The Blot had been hoping to get one of these bad boys to pair with the other Lucha Libre figure in my collection, the Dr. Destruction Wild Edition, but the $125 price tag just about ended those plans.


The remaining 56 figures are now in Muttpop’s possession and they will be releasing them in early 2009. (link) No word yet on whether these will be sold on their official online store or through retailers worldwide. When more information becomes available I will definitely pass it along!

Coming Soon: Muttpop's Tequila Pop Culture Edition

Sadly, this is fifth and final installment of The Blot’s inaugural weekly series on Comic Book Inspired Designer Vinyl Figure Colorways. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed doing it, and I am planning on doing another week long feature in the very near future.

Today’s comic book inspired designer vinyl figure colorway is the only one included in this week long series that has yes to come out. Over the past two or three years, Muttpop has become almost as well known for their amazing colorways as they are for their Lucha Libre vinyl figures. Tequila, the first Lucha Libre character released in vinyl form, has a huge year ahead of him with 3 to 4 different colorways set to be released. Of course it is Tequila’s Pop Culture colorway that really has The Blot excited.

As you can see from the picture below, Tequila’s Pop Culture colorway is based on the Marvel Comics super hero the Incredible Hulk’s color scheme of green skin and purple clothing. I warned you it was a popular colorway!


Every Tequila figure released to this point is already sold out, but with so many different colorways coming out in the next year getting one of the new Tequila figures shouldn’t be a problem. No price or run size for the Tequila Pop Culture Edition figure has been released yet, but what is known is that there will be a hard to find Tequila Pop Culture variant colorway created as well. I’m still trying to find out if the variant figure will be randomly inserted blind box style or if it will be sold separately in extremely limited quantities. The Pop Culture variant figure is rumored to be based on another popular character but whether it is based on a hero or a villain is anyone’s guess.

Comic Book Inspired Designer Vinyl Figure Colorways Week

The Blot is excited to start my very first week long feature on The Blot Says… Every morning this week, The Blot is going to be posting an article on a vinyl figure that was released in the past year (or will be released soon) with a comic book inspired colorway. If you’re a long time reader of The Blot Says… then you know of my obsession of all things comic books and more importantly, comic book inspired art, clothing and vinyl figures.


There is nothing more exciting than a good tribute, mash-up, or crossover release, and fans seem to be really gobbling up these types of designer toys. I already posted on one of my all time favorite comic book inspired colorways, Muttpop’s Dr. Destruction Wild Edition, so I won’t be including that awesome figure in this week’s feature articles. But, I wanted to include it here nonetheless. I’ve personally been very excited for the release of each of the five figures I’ll be highlighting this week and I hope you enjoy them as well!

Red Tide Rising Comrade Dr. Destruction Smersh Edition Colorway by Frank Kozik

Without a doubt, Muttpop does some of the best colorways of any designer toy company. As you know, The Blot really likes their Dr. Destruction figure and this newest colorway, the communist Smersh Edition by Frank Kozik, fits the character’s design perfectly. Muttpop has typically released all of their Lucha Libre figures in each of their primary colorways (regular, classico, black bean, GID, pop culture, puro and smoked), so I knew this Kozik Red Tide version would eventually hit the market. But I have to say I think this figure looks really great in olive green and red.


The Dr. Destruction Red Tide Colorway is limited to 500 pieces and comes with a removable cape, cigarette and cane. The figure has a suggested retail price of $65 and is available in designer toy stores nationwide and online now.

Muttpop’s Dr. Destruction Wild Edition Pre-Order Starts Today

The Blot’s been waiting a while for this one. I’ve never really been interested in collecting any of Muttpop’s Lucha Libre vinyl figures or Image’s Lucha Libre comic books before, but after seeing the Dr. Destruction Wild Edition vinyl figure I knew I’d have to get it. You can see from the picture below that the Wild colorway follows the same color pattern of a certain Clown Prince of Crime.


As you all know I’m a big fan of Batman, and a Joker-esque version of Dr. Destruction is right up my alley. Muttpop couldn’t have planned the release of the Dr. Destruction Wild Edition any better with it coming out just a few weeks before the release of Warner Bros.’ The Dark Knight.


For those of you unfamiliar with Dr. Destruction and the Lucha Libre line of designer vinyl figures and comic books, you can find out more about the line here. But basically it’s the story of “five middle aged Latino men [who] done Lucha Libre masks and protect East L.A.” (link) One cool thing about the vinyl toy line is that the figures were “made available before the first issues of Lucha Libre were published.” (link)

As for Dr. Destruction, another character from the popular comics, he “is the leader of Les Formidable, the first genuine group of French Superheroes.” (link) While Dr. Destruction’s “intentions are mainly cultural: Dr. Destruction is appalled with the peasant-like ways of Americans and came to East L.A. to teach them the rudiments of Les Bonnes Manieres.” (link)


The Dr. Destruction Wild Edition is limited to 250 pieces and is being sold exclusively in the U.S. at SelectStartNow.com. (link) The figure’s pre-order begins today, Monday, June 9th and orders should start shipping on or around Monday, June 30th. The figure is 8.25” tall and comes with a removable cape, cigarette, cane and rotating head. I was really pumped about ordering this figure, that is, until I saw the price.

The Dr. Destruction Original had a suggested retail price of $45.00, but the new Dr. Destruction Wild Edition is being sold online for $69.99. SelectStartNow.com says the list price for the figure is actually $79.99, but we all know that means nothing if they’re selling it for $69.99 and they’re the exclusive U.S. retailer of the figure. Seems like a ton to me for a designer toy, but I still love the colorway. Because as the figure’s description says, “this particular color way is the perfect clown prince to brighten those annoying dark nights.” (link)
