SDCC 2023 Exclusive Tomie Screen Print by Junji Ito x Justin Ishmael x Unbox Industries

Justin Ishmael is teaming up with Unbox Industries to launch a new screen print series based on the art of Japanese horror manga artist, Junji Ito! Their first release will be this San Diego Comic-Con 2023 Exclusive Tomie Screen Print featuring a legendary panel from the horror manga series. Mini Berserker & Chibi Toxigon Rainbow Marbled Edition Vinyl Figures by Mutant Vinyl Hardcore x Unbox Industries

On Saturday, Unbox Industries will be releasing their hotly anticipated Mini Berserker and Chibi Toxigon Soft Vinyl Figures by Mutant Vinyl Hardcore. For this release, MVH’s much loved characters have been reinterpreted by Too Natthapong as chibi mini figures, and the results are amazing! This weekend is the first chance for collectors to add these amazing characters to their collection with an online release.

Lord of Light Guaraan Vinyl Figure by Jack Kirby x Mike Royer x Unbox Industries

Wow, check out this insanely out of this world new soft vinyl figure Lord of Light Guaraan by Jack Kirby, Mike Royer and Unbox Industries! It’s the absolute perfect new figure to debut during San Diego Comic-Con 2020. Based off the breathtaking concept work created by Jack Kirby, Mike Royer and Barry Ira Gellar, Guaraan, the Blue God at the right hand of Terminal of the Gods, is one of the amazing characters featured in a series of illustrations conceived for a project based on Lord of Light by Robert Zelazny (you can read more details here at LordofLight.com).

Mike Royer worked as Jack Kirby’s primary inker during his tenure at DC Comics and collaborated on a wide range of titles including the incredible Fourth World project, The Demon and Kamandi. Unbox Industries had the incredible opportunity to work with Mike Royer directly as he prepared the details for the paint application. This alone requires over two hundred paint masks, and boy does it look and feel like Jack Kirby’s majesty design and art style.

Guaraan is based on the original 1978 Lord of Light drawing “Terminal of the Gods” by Jack Kirby and inked by Mike Royer, co-designed by Jack Kirby and Barry Ira Geller, which was made famous in the 2012 feature film, Argo.

The Lord of Light Guaraan Vinyl Figure by Jack Kirby x Mike Royer x Unbox Industries stands 12.5” tall and is made of soft vinyl. It will go on sale at 11am EDT at both store.unboxindustries.info and lordoflight.com/shop for $125.

DCon 2019 Exclusive Rhino Beetle Vinyl Figure by The Beast Is Back x Unbox Industries

The Beast Is Back (aka Chris Lee) is at Designer Con 2019 this weekend in Anaheim, CA where he will be debuting a new soft vinyl figure of his adorable Rhino Beetle! How freaking cute is this little guy!?! For DCon, The Beast Is Back has teamed up with Unbox Industries to release three Designer Con 2019 exclusive colorways of the figure: Peach Mist, Midnight Plum and Purple Soda.

The “Peach Mist” Rhino Beetle will be available at The Beast is Back DCon booth #2101, the “Midnight Plum” Rhino Beetle will only be available at the Unbox Industries DCon booth #1415, while the “Purple Soda” Rhino Beetle will be available at both booths. Each figure comes bagged with an illustrated header card, and will retail for around $50.

Chris gave a little background information on this exciting new figure (via his Instagram page): “I worked closely with the amazing team at Unbox Industries over the past 11 months to tweak the original resin version of the sculpt to work in vinyl. While small things changed across the board for technical reasons, the biggest change was the addition of a fully articulated head that just adds a ton of extra personality to the figure. Ever wished the original Rhino Beetle could do a cute head tilt? Well, you can do that now! The log base also includes little slots for the figure’s feet so it doesn't slide off.”

DCon 2019 Exclusive Imperial Lotus Dino Vinyl Figure by Scott Tolleson x Ziqi x Unbox Industries

Check out this super rad collaboration between Scott Tolleson, Ziqi and Unbox Industries! For Designer Con 2019, Tolleson was given the opportunity to design a new colorway for Ziqi’s adorable Ice Cream Dino. For this release, Tolleson applied the color scheme of his super popular Imperial Lotus character to Ziqi’s fantastic 4” soft vinyl figure. And who doesn’t love ice cream and dinosaurs!?! Produced by Unbox Industries, the Designer Con 2019 Exclusive Imperial Lotus Dino will retail for $75 and can be purchased at either Tolleson’s DCon booth #209 or Unbox’ DCon booth #1415.

The Iron Giant Soft Vinyl Figure by Unbox Industries x Mondo

Everyone’s favorite giant robot with a heart – The Iron Giant – is now a soft vinyl figure! In collaboration with Unbox Industries, Mondo will be releasing today three different colorways of The Iron Giant sofubi. This amazing figure features 10 points of articulation, stands 10.5” tall, and comes in a polybag with a header card.

The Iron Giant Soft Vinyl Figure will go on sale at a random time today, Thursday, September 19th, at MondoTees.com. The Regular Edition will retail for $80, while the Mondo Exclusive Edition, which includes a switch-out “War” head and arm, will retail for $85. But that’s not all! Mondo will also be releasing a small number of Designer Con Variant Artist Proofs. There will only be 20 Aps available and it will retail for $150.

Smudge & Nemesis Designer Art Figures by Gary Card x Unbox Industries

Unbox Industries is teaming up with celebrated set designer and illustrator Gary Card on two new designer art figures, the Breakfast Boys - Smudge and Nemesis! The Blot loves how Unbox Industries continues to bring in new faces to the designer toy scene and push the boundaries of what a resin figure can be. Card is best known for his immersive installations, continuously elevating fashion photography to another dimension of playfulness. He has collaborated with numerous creative powerhouses, including Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney, Comme Des Garçons and Louis Vuitton.

Smudge and Nemesis are the first figures in Unbox Industries and Gary Card’s new ongoing series of art figures based on the UK artist’s universe of Breakfast Boys characters. These figures will look to stretch the perception of what can be produced in figural form. Gary supplied a series of one-off figures to the Unbox team who then had the task of reproducing his work by recasting each individual piece and then meticulously constructing the figure to his exact specification. The results are truly breathtaking!

Oh my goodness… Check out this freaking epic RTJ KRANG soft vinyl figure by Trap Toys!!! Has the iconic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles villain ever looked so bad ass? The RTJ KRANG figure was designed by hip-hop toy designers Trap Toys and produced by Unbox Industries. This wonderful mash-up sees Killer Mike as the formidable Android Body from the longstanding Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series and EL-P as the evil mastermind brain with some added NY steez all the while throwing up the iconic salute that is synonymous with the rap duo. This is a must get for any RTJ fan or TMNT collector!

Oh man, the exciting Designer Con announcements just keep on coming! Mondo has announced that it’s teamed up with artist Mike Sutfin to create a very special artist edition colorway of his Devilman vinyl figure for DCon. Is this purple colorway awesome or what!?! Produced by Unbox Industries, this epic, officially licensed Devilman vinyl figure is based on Sutfin’s killer Devilman screen print released by Mondo back in 2015.

The Designer Con 2018 Exclusive Devilman Sutfin Variant Vinyl Figure stands 12” tall, features five points of articulation, and is cast in soft vinyl. The Sutfin Variant will be released at 2pm on Saturday, November 17th, at the Mondo DCon booth #2219. Mike will even be in attendance to sign fans figures! The Blot was super excited to learn yesterday that The VACVVM would be release a new colorway of Rob Jones' epic GOG vinyl figure!!! Produced by Unbox Industries, the VACVVM Edition GOG is the fully painted colorway featuring a bright red skull that was shown when the figure was first put on display at MondoCon almost two years ago. This version is straight fire!!!

Devilman Vinyl Figure by Mike Sutfin x Unbox Industries

Unbox Industries’ final release of 2017 is also one of The Blot’s favorite releases of the year! After over a year of teases, check out the final version of Mike Sutfin’s epic take on Devilman!!! In 2015, Mondo and Mike Sutfin joined forces to conceive a collaborative print project inspired by the legendary Go Nagai's Devilman franchise. This resulted in a fantastic screen print released at MondoCon 2015. Fast forward to 2017, Unbox took over the creative reins to push Mike's original design into a three-dimensional soft vinyl figure under Sutfin’s watchful eye, which was eventually granted approval by Go Nagai himself.

For this release, the Unbox team pulled together a variety of production techniques to create this unique interpretation without forfeiting the artist’s original concept. By utilizing a combination of traditional “sofvi” style manufacturing and injection molding the team captured the nuances of Mike's style perfectly.

SOFB BOY Vinyl Figure by Taku Obata x Unbox Industries

Check out this rad new figure SOFB BOY by Taku Obata! Produced by Unbox Industries, it’s got that classic urban vinyl feel that the designer toy scene has been seriously lacking the past few years. The Blot’s been watching the progress of this fantastic new piece for a while now on Instagram, and I’m super pumped to learn it’s finally dropping this weekend!

Taku Obata, who is based in Saitama, Japan, has drawn upon one of the vital elements of Hip Hop culture and channeled it into truly breathtaking figural art that captures the energy and raw power of the B-Boy. As part of his crew, Unity, or through his incredible wood carving, Obata has successfully intertwined hip-hop into his career with breathtaking results.

SOFB BOY is a soft vinyl interpretation of an original wooden sculpture by Obata that was digitally scanned for a “virtual” museum project with ANA in 2016. Unbox was then allowed to use that data to produce an exact soft vinyl interpretation of the sculpture that translates the craftmanship of Obata's original into a new exciting form, which also allows for poseability and dynamism in the hands of the owner.
