DCon 2022 Exclusive “Moving Parts 001” Polystone Sculpture by Louis De Guzman

Louis De Guzman will be at Designer Con 2022 next weekend where he will be debuting the third installment in his In Between The Lines series – “Moving Parts 001”! It is a multi-functional sculpture work that is an incense chamber as well as flower vase that can operate simultaneously. This new piece is not only an exercise of his own original design, but also an experimental project to incorporate functionality into his visual work. 

It acts as a sculptural center piece with engineered accents to allow the simultaneous usage of fire and water. Louis’ intention is to grasp the depicted moods and disruptive elements that surrounds the unison of the vase, all while housing the interaction component. Each sculpture piece allows the personal preference of floral arrangements and environmental scents to be curated to one’s own liking. Making each sculpture unique in their own way to move and live within one’s own environment.

Standing 14” tall, the sculpture showcases a still image of geometric shards swarming a flower vase that appears to float within a set of hands. Within the vase itself there are two separate chambers that allow for an incense cone to be lit and placed in the lower chamber while live flowers can be displayed in the upper chamber simultaneously. The sculpture can live on its own without the use of incense or without flowers however the two elements allow the collector to take control of their environment through the medium of this piece of art. The piece will be available in two monochromatic colors, Cement and Onyx, in order to allow the collector to manipulate the artwork based on the floral arrangement or scent they choose. 

“Moving Parts 001” was developed in collaboration with The Curative Co. and will be released initially on Saturday, November 19th, at Designer Con 2022 in Anaheim next weekend. An online release will follow on LouisdeGuzman.com. Limited to just 500 pieces per colorway, “Moving Parts 001” will retail for $875. Included with each sculpture is a sample of a signature scent of incense developed by Louis de Guzman, also entitled “Moving Parts 001”.  The scent includes notes of Orange Flower, Star Grapefruit, Cedarwood, Peruvian Leather and Palo Santo.

Last week, BAIT released this beautiful new “Atom Vs. Atro” Astro Boy vinyl figure sculpture by artist Louis de Guzman in his signature Multi Edition colorway! DCon 2021 Exclusive Tristan Eaton, Greg Mike & Louis De Guzman Be@rbrick Vinyl Figures by Medicom Toy

Medicom Toy is revisiting its Designer Con Exclusive Artist Series 100% Be@rbrick Box Sets of years past with super-sized versions of three different designs from its first two box sets. The Tristan Eaton Be@rbrick from Series 1 will now be released as a massive 1000% Be@rbrick and a 400% Be@rbrick. Bugs Bunny “A Wild Hare – 2” Vinyl Sculpture & Print by Louis De Guzman x Looney Tunes x NTWRK

Later today, Louis De Guzman, a Filipino-American visual artist based in Chicago, is releasing his second collaboration with Looney Tunes to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Bugs Bunny! Based off of De Guzman’s signature color palette and composition style, the “A Wild Hare – 2” Bugs Bunny vinyl figure stands 11” tall, is limited to just 350 pieces, and will retail for $380.

This metallic colorway of “A Wild Hare” showcases the versatility of De Guzman’s color palette, and creates a new perspective on the composition of the iconic cartoon character. There is also a matching 16”x16” signed and numbered print on cotton archival paper being released today, which is limited to 75 pieces and will retail for $225. Both De Guzman x Looney Tunes releases will go on sale at 4pm PST today, Tuesday, June 29th, on the NTWRK mobile app.

“A Wild Hare” is a conceptual case study celebrating 80 iconic years of Bugs Bunny. This work represents an elevated and colliding approach within my personal body of composi-tional work and color palette rooted from my ongoing “In Between The Lines” narrative.  Pushing what form and function can communicate through physical form, the basis for this project was to approach iconography and encapsulate a familiar face + movement with modern day techniques. As if we were pulling subject matter out of a photograph from a time capsule and replenishing it with a new look and feel to it. Being able to dig into the Warner Bro's archives and study Bugs Bunny's evolution through the decades has been a humbling experience. Starting in 2019, Louis De Guzman, a Chicago-based visual artist and designer, and Latin superstar, J Balvin, joined creative forces to celebrate SpongeBob SquarePants’ 20 years of influence on pop culture. While De Guzman and Balvin are of different backgrounds and mediums, a shared passion for pop art, design and SpongeBob aligned their creative worlds.
